I just wanted to take a moment to update you on an issue that has cropped up recently. A few MacMinute readers have notified us that pop-up window advertising appears when they access our home page. I have noticed recently that a few Mac sites have started to deliver you a pop-up window ad as you leave their site, which may give the impression that it is an ad we are delivering if you came directly here from one of those Web sites. I want to state categorically that MacMinute does not and will not ever use pop-up advertising. Thanks for reading MacMinute and have a great Tuesday!

Apple has published an article on writer Kevin J. Anderson, who has authored more than 30 books, including co-authoring the Dune series. Anderson is a fervent Mac user who uses his Macs daily for his work.

Apple has posted DVD Player 2.7, after recently including the software on newer Macs. Apple notes the update is not compatible with the DVD hardware in the Power Macintosh G3, PowerBook G3, and Power Mac G4 (PCI graphics) series computers.

MacMinute reader Lon Hutchison informed us of ClimatePrediction.com, a new distributed computing effort (similar to SETI@home) that will be used to analyze current and predict future climate trends. Details on the project are currently available, as well as a registration page that asks users what platform they use. Presumably, this information will be used to determine development priority, so Mac users looking to contribute to the greater good (beyond finding aliens or cracking the RC5 project), speak up!

PowerLogix has cut prices on its G3 upgrades by $50 as part of a summer promotion. The PowerForce G3/400 and G3/500 are now available for US$249 and $349, respectively. The G3/500 ZIF is also available for $349.
