On the heels of 4 megapixel digital camera announcements from Toshiba and Sony, Olympus today released details of its forthcoming high-end camera. The Camedia C-4040 Zoom delivers a 4 megapixel CCD with a 3x optical zoom, 7.5x digital zoom, and QuickTime movie capture capabilities. The C-4040 will ship in August for US$1099.

Chancery Software today released Mac School for Mac OS X, a Carbonized version of its student information system. Mac School is a modular solution for managing students, from demographics to report cards. Pricing varies depending on the size of the school.

Aspyr Media today began shipping Tomb Raider: Chronicles, the fourth title in the Tomb Raider series. The game is one of the first to ship Carbonized for Mac OS X, and sells for US$39.95.

Iomega has quietly begun shipping the US$399.95 USB version of its Peerless drive ahead of schedule, according the company’s site. Macworld UK also reports that the unit has begun shipping in the UK for £269. The Peerless uses removable 10GB and 20GB cartridge drives, and comes with a 20GB drive. USB 2.0, FireWire, and SCSI interface cables, which can be used with the same base unit, will be available later.

VersionTracker notes that America Online has made a new version of their online service software for Mac OS X available. AOL 6C, which can be downloaded while logged into AOL (use Keyword “Beta”), contains a number of bug fixes.
