As some dealers report receiving no copies of 10.1, readers chime in with their experiences obtaining the update

Several MacMinute readers report that their local Apple dealers did not receive any shipments of the Mac OS X 10.1 update. “Every CompUSA in the Philadelphia area reports that they have the upgrade in stock by phone, but once you get there you find out they never received their shipment. They are blaming it on Apple,” wrote one reader. “I checked seven ‘local’ authorized dealers (I live in Vermont, the closest one is 45 minutes away), and Apple has not gotten the 10.1 upgrade CDs to any,” bemoaned another.

Demand outpaces supply for 10.1 update

Macintosh dealers and Apple Stores are being inundated with customers looking for the free Mac OS 10.1 upgrade. A check of Apple Stores in Tysons Corner, VA, Tampa, FL, Columbus, OH and Peabody, MA revealed that all stores ran out of the upgrade. The Tysons Corner location had more than 200 customers lined up outside the mallstore at 07:00–three hours before its opening–to get their hands on theupdate, and were out of stock within an hour, a store employee told MacMinute by phone. Many independent Mac dealers, however, report having some stock of the upgrade still available.
