Proxim ups wireless networking to 108Mbps

Proxim has announced its new Harmony Fast 802.11a product line, which doubles the speed of 802.11a networking to 108Mbps (although real-world performance is about one-third of that). The higher speed is only achieved when Harmony Fast products are used in conjunction with each other, otherwise they operate at the standard speed of 54Mbps. The product line will consist of a US$249 PC card and a $695 base station, with a dedicated PCI card also in the works.

WebMeddler lets non-techies update Web pages

Media Lab today introduced WebMeddler, a solution that allows authorized non-programmers to make minor changes to existing Web pages without disrupting page formats, design elements, or the integrity of HTML programming. WebMeddler works by adding an invisible Java applet to Web pages that incorporates an HTML parser, FTP client, and a Word processor. Upon providing an authorized username and password for FTP access, users can easily change text and other elements that have been specified as editable by the HTML programmer.
