Tangram today announced support for Mac OS X for Asset Insight, its flagship IT asset tracking solution. The software allows users to track hardware, software, configuration files, software usage, and network devices.

4D, Inc. has posted 4D WebMail beta 2, a cross-platform browser plug-in that allows users to check SMTP or POP3 mail from any Web browser. Users can also compose, reply, forward, send, and file mail, while the software itself features an address book, support for attachments, and more.

Steve Jobs’ Macworld Expo keynote on Jan. 7, 2002 will set the stage for the introduction of a consumer product that’s “innovative, revolutionary, and different,” according to Macworld UK. Apple is also quoted as having described the product as “powerful, user-friendly, and eye-catching.” Many suspect this product could be a redesigned iMac.

Carvware has released a new version of its utility, GamePad Companion 1.2, for supporting input devices, such as gamepads and joysticks, with applications on Mac OS X.

Apple’s Frank Casanova, director of QuickTime product marketing, talks about QuickTime Live!, MPEG-4, QuickTime 6, and emerging trends in digital media in an interview with Creative Mac. Casanova relays the company’s surprise at RealNetworks’ announcement last week of support for the MPEG-4 standard, which is based on the QuickTime file format.
