Juniper Research announces top disruptive technologies in digital commerce

Juniper Research (www.juniperrsearch.com) has revealed the top technologies that it believes will do the most to transform e-commerce this year. Leading the list are biometrics, federated identify, and tokenization.

The research group concludes that the technology making the biggest difference to “payment completion” today is biometrics, largely thanks to the proliferation of fingerprint readers in smartphones due to the use of biometric authentication in both Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Juniper argues that use cases and deployments will proliferate in the short and medium term.

Over 90% of smart thermostat, door lock, and sprinkler system owners use cloud-supported services with their devices

New data from Parks Associates (www.parksassociates.com) reveals that 19% of U.S. broadband households currently own at least one Internet-connected smart home device.

These devices, including smart thermostats, sprinkler systems, door locks, and security cameras, offer remote control, monitoring, or notifications via a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Upwards of 90% of device owners use mobile apps to access cloud-supported services associated with their devices, according to the research group.
