Update Now: iOS 26.3 and macOS Tahoe 26.3 Fix Dozens of Security Vulnerabilities Apple today released iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3, and macOS Tahoe 26.3, all of which largely focus on bug fixes and security improvements. Apple says that the updates address dozens of vulnerabilities, including one that is known to have been actively exploited.
That vulnerability in the dyld dynamic link editor could allow for the execution of arbitrary code, and Apple says the bug may have been exploited in an "extremely sophisticated attack" against targeted individuals on versions of iOS before iOS 26.An attacker with memory write capability may be able to execute arbitrary code. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals on versions of iOS before iOS 26.Apple says the memory corruption issue was fixed with improved state management.
There are numerous other vulnerabilities that were also fixed across not only iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, but also Apple's other platforms that saw updates released today.
Now that these vulnerabilities have been publicized by Apple, even those that were not exploited before might be taken advantage of now. Apple recommends all users update their devices to iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3, and macOS Tahoe 26.3 as soon as possible.Related Roundups: iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS TahoeRelated Forums: iOS 26, macOS TahoeThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

iOS 26.3 is here with a focus on switchers and stalking—check out what’s new Macworld
Apple has just released iOS 26.3 to iPhones everywhere, and as expected, it’s a relatively small update. With iOS 26.4 already on the horizon, and rumored to introduce substantial changes, including a Gemini-powered Siri, this release is more about incremental improvements that set the stage for big upcoming changes.
That said, iOS 26.3 still introduces a few notable additions, especially when it comes to device switching, privacy, and new capabilities for users in the EU. Read on as we break down everything new in iOS 26.3.
iPhone to Android transfer tool
For the first time, Apple is making it easier to switch from iPhone to Android. While iOS already allows users to quickly transfer data from an Android phone to an iPhone, the opposite wasn’t possible. At least until now.
iOS 26.3 introduces a new tool built directly into the Settings app that helps users transfer their data from an iPhone to an Android phone. This new tool works wirelessly and transfers data such as photos, messages, notes, and apps to a supported Android device.
If you’re switching to Android from an iPhone, the process will be much simpler with iOS 26.3.Foundry
You can even transfer your eSIM from iPhone to Android if you have an eligible device and carrier.
The new transfer tool can be found in Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Transfer to Android.
Limit Precise Location for cellular networks
Devices equipped with an Apple-made C1 and C1X modem (iPhone 16e, iPhone Air, and M5 iPad Pro with 5G) now have an extra layer of location privacy with iOS 26.3.
Users will find a new toggle on supported hardware that limits how accurately cellular networks can determine their location. Apps and websites will still have access to an approximate location, but it will become much more difficult to know exactly where the device is.
According to Apple, enabling this option does not affect location accuracy for emergency services during emergency calls.
Apple devices with the C1 and C1X modems will be able to hide their precise location from trackers.Apple
At launch, the feature is only available with select carriers, so availability may vary depending on region and network. The only devices so far with an Apple-made 5G modem are the iPhone 16e, iPhone Air, and the Cellular version of the M5 iPad Pro.
New Weather wallpaper sections
iOS 26.3 adds a small but welcome visual tweak for personalization fans.
The Weather wallpapers now have their own dedicated section, featuring three preset options. While this is a minor change, it makes weather-based wallpapers easier to discover and manage within the system.
Encrypted RCS messages
It’s been a while since Apple added RCS support to the iPhone, allowing users to communicate with Android phone owners as if they were using iMessage. However, there’s still one important feature missing from Apple’s implementation, which is end-to-end encryption for RCS messages.
Based on the iOS 26.3 code, the system is now ready to support encrypted RCS messages. However, it’s still up to carriers to support the feature on their end, and so far, none of them have. That may change soon now that the update is available to the public.
Notification forwarding for accessories
In the European Union, iOS 26.3 introduces a new API that allows third-party accessories to show notifications from your iPhone.
This capability works similarly to how notifications are mirrored on the Apple Watch and will enable features on third-party smartwatches, smartbands, and even accessories like Meta’s smart glasses.
Unfortunately, this feature is only available to iPhone users in the EU. There are no details on whether Apple will expand this option to other regions in the future.
iPhone users in the EU will get fasr pairing for third-party headphones and other devices.Foundry
AirPods-style pairing for third-party accessories
Another EU-only change makes pairing non-Apple accessories faster and more intuitive.
With iOS 26.3, third-party accessories can now support AirPods-like quick pairing. In other words, users can simply bring the accessory near an iPhone or iPad to begin the pairing process. This removes one of Apple’s long-standing advantages for its own hardware, at least within the European Union.
For users in the rest of the world, this new feature remains unavailable.
Bug fixes and security patches
As always, new versions of iOS come with multiple bug fixes, stability improvements, and security patches. That’s why it’s always important to keep your devices updated with the latest version os soon as it arrives.
What to expect from iOS 26.4
With iOS 26.3 now available to the public, Apple will turn its attention to iOS 26.4, which has been highly anticipated for over a year. According to multiple sources, including an exclusive report from Macworld, the company has been planning some major new features for the next iOS update.
The most anticipated change is the new version of Siri powered by Gemini. This comes almost two years after Apple announced that Siri would be powered by Apple Intelligence and would gain the ability to not only answer more questions, but also interact with apps. The new Siri was delayed in early 2025, and we’ve been waiting for its release since then.
In addition, Apple has also been working on a redesigned Health app, credit card autofill in third-party apps, folders in Freeform, and improvements to Find My when it comes to searching for AirPods and AirTags. These features are also expected to show up in iOS 26.4, likely the last major feature-packed release before iOS 27 debuts.
It’s unclear when iOS 26.4 will be released to the public, but we expect the first beta to arrive later this month.
Update your iPhone and iPad now
Again, iOS 26.3 isn’t a major update, but it does bring some nice improvements, especially if you live in the EU. You can update your iPhone or iPad by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

The update follows after just one beta build was tested by Apple, with testers using the first build throughout the end-of-year holiday period. While iOS 26.2 brought many new features to the operating system, iOS 26.3 brings somewhat fewer. iOS 26.3 brings these 3 changes to your iPhone Apple’s iOS 26.3 update is light on features but brings three important improvements that quietly make your iPhone better.
(via Cult of Mac - Your source for the latest Apple news, rumors, analysis, reviews, how-tos and deals.)
Apple Releases iOS 26.3 and iPadOS 26.3 Apple today released iOS 26.3 and iPadOS 26.3, the latest updates to the iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 operating systems that came out in September. The new software comes almost two months after Apple released iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2.
The new software can be downloaded on eligible iPhones and iPads over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
According to Apple's release notes, iOS 26.3 and iPadOS 26.3 include unspecified bug fixes and security updates, but there are a couple features that Apple didn't highlight.
The updates add a tool for transitioning from an Apple device to an Android device. Transfers are able to be started during the device setup process, and moving data from one device to another can be done without having to download apps from Apple and Google.
The transfer process supports moving photos, messages, notes, apps, passwords, phone numbers, and more, and it's not too surprising that Apple isn't advertising it. Data transfers were already possible, though not quite as simple, and Apple likely doesn't want to encourage users to move to a different platform.
In December, the European Union took credit for the new transfer tool, touting it as an example of how the Digital Markets Act (DMA) benefits users and developers. Google and Apple apparently implemented the feature because the DMA requires services to offer interoperability to prevent customers from being locked in to an operating system. The two companies opted to add the functionality worldwide rather than just in the EU.
iOS 26.3 includes a setting to limit carrier location tracking, though it is limited to a few select carriers worldwide. In the United States, only Boost Mobile is supporting the feature as of now. EE and BT in the UK offer it, as does Telekom in Germany and AIS and True in Thailand. It is a feature available only for devices with C1 or C1X modems.
In the iOS 26.3 beta, Apple added other Europe-only changes for third-party wearables, which were shared by the European Commission. Devices like headphones and smartwatches will be able to use some of the same functionality available to the AirPods and the Apple Watch going forward.
Proximity pairing will allow third-party devices to pair with an iOS device in an AirPods-like one-tap way by bringing an accessory close to an iPhone or an iPad. Third-party accessories like smart watches will be able to receive richer notifications from the iPhone, which are able to be viewed and interacted with. Apple is allowing notifications to be forwarded to a single connected device, so turning on notifications for a third-party watch disables notifications on the Apple Watch.
While these features have been tested in iOS 26.3, they may have been removed for the release version of the software and could come in a future update.
Most of the beta testing period focused on bug fixes and these EU-specific features, so there isn't a lot that's new in iOS 26.3 and iPadOS 26.3. We are expecting a lot more to be added in iOS 26.4, and the first beta of iOS 26.4 could come this month.Related Roundups: iOS 26, iPadOS 26Related Forum: iOS 26This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Apple’s new 40W dynamic charger is under $30 for the first time Macworld
You might have heard about Apple’s new dynamic charger that can deliver just the right amount of juice to your iPhone or Mac. You also might have heard that it’s pretty pricey at $39. Well, it just got its first discount, so if you’re curious about it, it’s a great time to buy one. The Apple 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W max power is down to a cool $27 at Amazon, the best price we’ve ever seen.
We tested this power adapter a while back and were pleasantly surprised by its performance. Basically, this adapter features a unique dynamic power allocation system that’s capable of delivering up to 60W. It can sustain this 60W max power for about 20 minutes or so before getting too hot and backing off to 40W. We didn’t find it to be any faster than other 60W chargers, but the safety features are a nice benefit. And Apple could unlock featurea in future devices that specifically take advantage of the dynamic charging.
Either way, this technology allows it to provide a powerful boost in charging speeds while maintaining a compact, pocket-sized form factor. It will generally charge your iPhone at 40W, but it will boost to 60W for your MacBook Air (for a while, at least). The unit features a single USB-C port and foldable prongs, so it’s as travel-ready as it’s gonna get.
Go ahead and grab Apple’s new 40W/60W power adapter for $27 while it’s still on sale.

Never Miss Your Doorbell While Wearing Headphones on iPhone Noise-canceling headphones are great for blocking out distractions, but they can also block out sounds you actually need to hear, like a courier at the front door with your all-important package. Well, thanks to an Apple accessibility feature, your iPhone can do the listening for you and alert you when your doorbell rings.
Meet Sound Recognition, the feature in question that uses your iPhone's microphone to continuously monitor for specific sounds. When it detects one, you'll receive a notification that plays through your connected headphones, along with a vibration on your iPhone (or Apple Watch if you're wearing one).
The feature is primarily designed for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, but it's equally useful for anyone who works from home and regularly wears AirPods or noise-canceling headphones.
How to Enable Doorbell Alerts
Open Settings on your iPhone.
Tap Accessibility.
Under "Hearing," tap Sound & Name Recognition, then tap through to Sound Recognition.
Toggle on Sound Recognition, then tap Sounds.
Under "Household," tap Door Bell and toggle it on in the next screen. You'll also see the option to choose a specific alert tone.
Note that your iPhone may need to download a small file (around 30MB) before the feature becomes active, so a Wi-Fi or data connection could be needed.
Training Your iPhone to Recognize Your Doorbell
If your iPhone doesn't reliably detect your specific doorbell, you can train it to recognize the sound by following these steps:
Go to Settings ➝ Accessibility ➝ Sound & Name Recognition ➝ Sound Recognition ➝ Sounds.
Tap Custom Appliance or Doorbell, then enter a name.
Place your iPhone near the doorbell and tap Start Listening.
Ring your doorbell. Repeat this five times to complete the training.
Quick Access via Control Center
Once Sound Recognition is enabled, iOS automatically adds a toggle to Control Center. From here, you can press and hold the Sound Recognition icon to quickly enable or disable specific sounds without diving into Settings, which is handy if you only want doorbell detection when you're at home wearing headphones.
Sound Recognition can also detect smoke alarms, dog barking, babies crying, water running, and more. Just keep in mind that Apple advises against relying on this feature in high-risk or emergency situations. This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Our Verdict
ExpressVPN is fast and simple to get to grips with, offering a great way to get around geoblocking at a reasonable price. While the Mac app is a little basic, that’s arguably part of its charm – you open it, click, and go, but you will miss out on additional features like antivirus tools offered by some rivals.

In our time appraising VPNs, we’ve found that ExpressVPN is also held up in the community. As one of the biggest names in the game, alongside NordVPN, we were always going to review it, but could it really be that much more impressive than so many of its rivals to earn such a glowing reputation?
As it happens, the answer is yes. While ExpressVPN isn’t without its quirks, as so many VPNs are, it’s remarkably easy to use, stripped bare of additional features on the Mac to be boiled down into the simplest way to connect to servers in over a hundred countries.
To roll it back, though, why would you want a Virtual Private Network? Reasons to use a VPN are threefold at the basest level. For one, you can circumnavigate geoblocking, letting you watch whatever’s on Netflix in the UK while you remain comfy on your sofa in California, for example.
It’s also a great way to protect your data while browsing the web from a network that’s public or unfamiliar. Heading to the coffee shop? A VPN can encrypt your connection to minimize the risk of prying eyes.
Finally, even when you’re browsing at home, they can minimize the chances of your internet provider or just about anyone else seeing what you’re doing. What I love about ExpressVPN is you can do just about all of this with two or three clicks at most.
It even does well to mitigate some of the speed lost from pinging your data off to distant lands, dropping less than 13% of download speed in our testing. Combine that with a relatively decent price for a one-year membership and you’ve got an ideal first stop for VPN newcomers.
ExpressVPN features in our round-up of the Best VPNs for Mac. It’s also included in our Best VPN for iPhone and Best VPNs for iPad articles.
Features & Apps
Server Choice: There are over 100 countries with ExpressVPN servers.Foundry
As you’d expect from a household name, ExpressVPN has native VPN apps on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, Android, Windows, and just about anything else.
If you’ve got a smart device, there’s a good chance ExpressVPN can run on it, and that’s handled through an account-specific Activation Code that’s easy to set up. You can use it on eight devices at once, which is a step up from the five that it used to offer – although disappointingly you won’t be able to get unlimited devices like something like Surfshark.
It’s worth noting that, outside of encrypting your connection to minimize the presence of “bad actors”, you get Advanced Protection on the Advanced plan and above.
Both ExpressVPN and its password manager have browser plugin support, too, so you can use either from within your browser of choice.
Outside of that, though, ExpressVPN is refreshingly simple. There are no subscription tiers, no convoluted add-ons, and you can open the app or use the menu bar item on a Mac to get browsing safely and securely in seconds.
With that said, if you do want that sort of safety net for malware, something like NordVPN might be worth a look instead. Or take a look at our round-up of the Best Antivirus for Mac.
Opening up ExpressVPN is much faster than some competitors we’ve tested (I found SurfShark rather gunked up my system on Mac when I tried to uninstall it), with a slick animation when you hit the “on” button to connect to your chosen server.
It’ll add a series of shortcuts to apps and sites you use often, too, letting you quickly hop to them when you’re connected, and there are Advanced Protection features, too – more on those in a moment.
I’ve also had great experiences with the 24-hour live chat. Within minutes I can be connected to a real human (no chatbots, hooray!) and able to discuss any issues.
Performance
Speed Tests: You can run speed tests on any server in the world.Foundry
To set expectations – NordVPN remains faster than ExpressVPN. Its loss of around 12% of download speed is pretty hard to beat, but 13% on ExpressVPN’s part is still better than many.
ExpressVPN offers no fewer than six different choices for protocol (including the automatic option). Lightway, the company’s own option, is rapid. That’s going to net you the best speeds, but for compatibility, you can switch to another version of Lightway or OpenVPN – although we lost 24% of speed using the latter.
It’s worth noting that Advanced Protection features will disable OpenVPN and IKEv2. The tradeoff is that these features can block trackers, malicious sites, ads, and adult sites. That’s great for families using Express for all of their browsing activity, adding additional peace of mind.
In my testing, I’ve not found much that Lightway couldn’t handle, too, so it may end up being much simpler to just leave the automatic setting on.
You can also run speedtests within the app on multiple server locations to get an idea of what to expect when connecting, and that’s handy for countries with multiple server locations.
On iPhone and iPad, things are much more baked into the operating systems. Siri voice control, a Home Screen widget, and even Shortcuts integration have been added in recent months.
Privacy & Security
IP Address Checker: The IP address checker opens in a browser window, rather than in the app.Foundry
Circumnavigating geoblocks is great and all, but it means little if your VPN doesn’t offer some degree of privacy.
The company is headquartered in the British Virgin Islands, meaning it’s free from the majority of intelligence-sharing agencies’ jurisdiction, while it also operates a no-log policy. It doesn’t have anything like the PureVPN “always-on” audit process, but it undergoes regular audits each year.
There’s a sizeable section of the ExpressVPN site with a focus on security, transparency, audits, and more, too, called the Trust Centre. The company also operates a “bug bounty” program to reward anyone capable of finding vulnerabilities in its apps, servers, website or anything else.
It’s worth noting, however, that using something like the IP address checker or DNS leak test within the app takes you to a separate webpage, which is a shame – but maybe that’s the price you pay for a faster native macOS experience.
Pricing and plans
In a previous version of this review, we noted that ExpressVPN was offering great deals to users who didn’t want to lock in to a two-year plan – but that’s no longer the case.
Instead, you can still pay on a monthly basis, but ExpressVPN now has a tiered system. The basic plan is just $3.49 per month (across two years), and gets you what the company calls its ‘core features’ – the Lightway protocol, no-logs, and plenty of server locations across 10 devices.
Next up is Advanced, which adds additional protection and a Password Manager, alongside identity monitoring and even credit monitoring. It costs $4.49 (again, on a two-year plan) and covers 12 devices.
Finally, the Pro plan gets you unlimited eSIM data for 5 days, monthly credit reports, data removal services, and covers 14 devices for $7.49 a month.
That flexibility of features is great, and you get dedicated IP options in the Pro package or as a paid extra for other tiers, but it’s still substantially pricier than some rivals – particularly if you opt to pay monthly.
Verdict
ExpressVPN is an easy-to-use, fast VPN service with plenty of protection from prying eyes and dodgy coffee shop Wi-Fi, as well as near-limitless potential for enjoying streaming services in any of its server locations across 105 countries.
It’s very easy to recommend ExpressVPN for its no-nonsense approach to a VPN.

Where Is AirTag 2's Missing Feature? Apple just introduced its second-generation AirTag, but one rumored feature failed to arrive with the new accessory.
The second-generation AirTag features 50% farther Precision Finding, upgraded Bluetooth with increased range, a 50% louder speaker, and more.
Back in August 2023, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the second-generation AirTag would have better integration with Apple's upcoming Vision Pro headset, as part of its spatial computing ecosystem.
He did not provide any additional details at the time, but the functionality was a key part of the rumor cycle around the accessory leading up to its launch. The final, released product has no such feature, but it is possible that Apple could still add deeper AirTag integration with the Vision Pro via visionOS 27.
It is also worth noting that Kuo said another product will have similar Vision Pro integration. Last year, he explained that the next-generation AirPods Pro will feature a "more significant" hardware upgrade in the form of infrared cameras. They are are expected to integrate with Apple's Vision Pro headset to provide enhanced enhanced spatial experiences:
The new AirPods is expected to be used with Vision Pro and future Apple headsets to enhance the user experience of spatial audio and strengthen the spatial computing ecosystem. For example, when a user is watching a video with Vision Pro and wearing this new AirPods, if users turn their heads to look in a specific direction, the sound source in that direction can be emphasized to enhance the spatial audio/computing experience.
While the rumor about infrared cameras is now widely corroborated, the Vision Pro integration is more uncertain. With the second-generation AirTag's rumored Vision Pro integration missing, the AirPods Pro's similar feature may now be in question, not least because Apple now appears to be deprioritizing the Vision Pro with no new headsets in active development.

Apple Supplier's Plans Fall Through, Macs and iPads May Be Impacted On an earnings call on Tuesday, Japanese company Sharp announced that the planned sale of one of its LCD display factories to its majority owner Foxconn has fell through, according to Nikkei Asia. As a result, the report said Sharp plans to halt production at the facility in August, and this decision may temporarily impact Apple.
If production ceases at Sharp's so-called "K2" factory in Kameyama, Japan, Taiwanese research firm TrendForce said that short-term supply of oxide LCD display panels for some MacBook and iPad models "could face disruption."
Apple is known for having excellent supply chain management, so any potential impact on MacBook and iPad shipping estimates might be limited. TrendForce estimated that Apple's current orders only make up about 16% to 17% of the factory's overall utilization, and Apple still has around six months to prepare.
Sharp has decided to wind down the factory amid increased competition.
"The plant's competitive edge once stemmed from its industry-leading oxide backplane technology, serving as a benchmark for Apple's MacBook and iPad panels," said TrendForce. "However, increasing investments from Korean and Chinese panel makers in oxide capacity steadily eroded Sharp's technological advantage."
Foxconn had initially planned to continue LCD panel production at the factory, and add new production lines to build AI servers, according to Nikkei Asia. However, the report said Foxconn backed away due to "weak LCD prices."
Regardless, Apple is in the process of upgrading its products with OLED displays. All of the latest iPhone models are equipped with OLED displays, and the past two generations of iPad Pro models are too. Over the next one to two years, the iPad mini, iPad Air, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac are expected to receive OLED displays too.Tags: Foxconn, Nikkei, Sharp, TrendForceThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Forget the iPhone, Apple might be bringing under-screen Touch ID to the Mac Macworld
It’s been rumored for years that Apple is researching ways to install biometric sensors under the iPhone’s screen, thereby saving itself the need to put Face ID sensors in the Dynamic Island or Touch ID fingerprint readers in one of the buttons. What very few people expected was for Apple to focus on developing such a feature for the Mac-but a newly granted patent offers an intriguing hint of precisely that.
In U.S. patent 12,548,534, filed in January 2025 and granted this week (and promptly spotted by AppleInsider), Apple reveals its work on a project called, perhaps misleadingly, “Display with localized brightness adjustment capabilities.” But the real purpose of the concept is given away in the abstract, which discusses “an array of light sensors for capturing fingerprints of a user through an array of corresponding transparent windows in the display.”
So far, so unsurprising: Apple has been granted patents for what sound suspiciously like under-screen Touch ID on multiple occasions in the past. But what’s different from U.S. patent 10,824,837, for example, is the noticeable lack of anything to tie the research to the iPhone. Not in the wording: Apple is always as vague as it can get away with in that respect, referring consistently to electronic devices rather than smartphones, or giving long lists of possible applications. (In this latest patent Apple cites “a tablet computer, laptop computer, a desktop computer, a display, a cellular telephone, a media player, a wristwatch device or other wearable electronic equipment, or other suitable electronic device.”) But in the artwork.
Apple is exploring the possibility of adding Touch ID to displays.Apple
The drawing for patent 10,824,837 is quite transparently a handheld device of some sort. Again, Apple keeps things vague: it could be a smartphone or a small tablet. But there’s no way in the world that’s a Mac. Compare this to 12,548,534, which is illustrated by a series of nondescript almost-square rectangles (with, notably, no human finger to give clues of scale) that could be taken as a representation of almost any Apple display, from the iPhone to the Studio Display. And AppleInsider takes this as a possible hint that the patent might be intended for non-iPhone applications such as the iPad (which would probably be the closest fit for the screen proportions) or even the Mac.
Macs aren’t an obvious use case for under-screen Touch ID. Whereas screen space is at a premium for the iPhone and iPad, Macs don’t have to give up any screen real estate for biometrics; their keyboards have built-in Touch ID sensors, and these don’t bring any obvious drawbacks. Putting sensors under their screens could lower the screen output quality, raise costs, or bring any number of other complications. However, there are rumors that Apple will release its first touch-screen MacBook later this year, so it’s not completely outlandish.
Of course, this is just a patent. Patent activity is no guarantee of future plans: sometimes projects are delayed or cancelled entirely, and it’s not unknown for companies to file patents to obstruct or mislead their rivals.
Still, it’s an interesting idea. Watch this space and we’ll let you know if anything comes of it.
Apple’s most affordable products are about to get a lot more exciting Apple has a lot of new products rumored to launch soon, and among them, the most affordable iPhone, iPad, and MacBook models will get a lot more exciting. Here’s what’s coming.

Apple Acquires New Database App Apple acquired Canadian graph database company Kuzu last year, it has emerged.
The acquisition, spotted by AppleInsider, was completed in October 2025 for an undisclosed sum. The company's website was subsequently taken down and its Github repository was archived, as is commonplace for Apple acquisitions.
Kuzu was "an embedded graph database built for query speed, scalability, and easy of use." It offered Kuzu Explorer, a browser-based database that displayed datapoints as linked nodes. Apple had to inform the European Union of the acquisition owing to its significance, but there are few other details around it.
Apple already owns FileMaker, a cross-platform relational database app, via a subsidiary. It is unclear what Apple plans to use Kuzu's technology for. Tag: Apple AcquisitionThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Apple Home App Stops Working for Some Users as Update Now Required In 2022, Apple introduced a new Apple Home architecture that is "more reliable and efficient," and support for the old architecture has now ended.
As expected, the app is no longer working for some users.
Users who did not update the app by the February 10 deadline now see this message: "You're running an older version of Apple Home that is no longer supported. Update now to continue using the Home app with your Apple devices and other accessories."
"The members of your home will also need to update on their devices," the message adds.
Apple said users who do not upgrade may experience issues with accessories and automations, or lose access to their smart home in the app entirely. In addition, users who do not upgrade will miss out on newer features like robot vacuum cleaner support, and they will not receive important security fixes and performance improvements.
It is still possible to upgrade the app to restore functionality.
Apple explains how to upgrade the Home app on the iPhone, iPad, or Mac:
Open the Home app
Tap or click on the three dots in the upper-right and navigate to Home Settings
Tap or click on Software Update
Tap or click Update Now, then follow the prompts. All of the homes that you own are updated at the same time.
If you see "This home and all accessories are up to date," then you are on the current version of the app and no further action is required.
Notably, the newer Apple Home architecture requires a minimum of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, macOS 13.1, tvOS 16.2, and watchOS 9.2.

ChatGPT's Deep Research Mode Gets a Fullscreen Document Viewer OpenAI has updated its deep research feature in ChatGPT with a fullscreen document viewer that can be used to browse its AI-generated reports separately from the chat window.
The built-in tool includes a table of contents in a left-hand column that can be used to jump to specific parts of the document, while a right-hand column can still be expanded to show a list of citations.
The deep research mode has also picked up a couple of new options to help users focus research. From OpenAI's release notes:
We're introducing improvements to deep research in ChatGPT to help produce more accurate, credible reports with greater control. You can now focus research on specific websites and a larger collection of connected apps as trusted sources.
A redesigned sidebar entry point and fullscreen report view make it easier to start, review, and manage research in one place. Create and edit a research plan before it begins, and track progress with the ability to adjust direction mid-run.Released last year, the deep research feature takes extra time to break a question into parts, then gathers and compares relevant information from the web, cross-checks claims, and synthesizes the findings into a better-supported, coherent answer.
Users can monitor ChatGPT's progress in real time and adjust the research scope, or add sources while a report is being generated. When the report is finished, it can be exported from the document viewer in multiple formats, including Markdown, Word, and PDF.
OpenAI says the new viewer tool is currently rolling out to Plus and Pro subscribers, with users on its ChatGPT Go tier and free users set to receive the update in the coming days.Tag: ChatGPTThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Kuxiu X55 Turbo 25W Wireless Charging Station Review: A cheaper 25W Qi2.2 alternative Macworld
At a glanceExpert's Rating
Pros
Compact 3-in-1 charger
25W iPhone charging
Apple Watch fast charger
Charge as stand or flat
Cheaper than X40 Turbo
Cons
Small but bigger than X40 Turbo
Our Verdict
This more affordable variant of the metal X40 Turbo is rated at the same super-fast charging speeds for iPhone, AirPods and Watch. While maybe not as pocketable it’s just as portable, and the choice between the two Kuxiu chargers may just come down to color choice.

Only a few weeks ago we were singing the praises of the Kuxiu X40 Turbo, a super-compact 3-in-1 wireless charger that can fast-charge an iPhone at 25W and your AirPods and Apple Watch at the time. It’s so small and lightweight that we recommended it as the ultimate travel charger for Apple devices.
Now, Kuxiu has released the X55 Turbo that promises to do most of the same things as the X40 Turbo but at a lower cost.
Both are a three-piece stack of charging modules that unfold into a vertical stand with an adjustable iPhone charger at the front and top, AirPods charger on the base and a pull-out Apple Watch charger that pops out from the middle of the back.
X55 Turbo charging stand at the back, X40 Turbo at the front.Simon Jary
The iPhone charger employs the latest Qi2.2 magnetic wireless charging technology that can output 25W for the fastest wireless charging you can get. It can recharge any of the iPhone 16 or 17 series (except the oddball 16e) from 0-50% in just over 30 minutes.
The 5W Watch charger is powerful enough to fast-charge the Watch, and the AirPods are well provided for with the non-magnetic 5W Qi base.
Design: Comparing the X40 and X55, what’s different?

The fundamental difference between the X40 Turbo and X55 Turbo is the materials it’s made of and its size, but the X55 includes an additional feature.
The X40 Turbo is an all-metal aluminum alloy build, while the X55 Turbo is made from high-quality plastic. It doesn’t feel like plastic as it feels more like a pleasantly smooth silicone.
Simon Jary
Side by side, the X55 Turbo looks much bigger than the X40 Turbo, but that’s mostly due to the folded height of the charger; see photo above. The X40 Turbo has a folded height of just 0.71 inch (1.8cm) while the X55 looks chunky in comparison at 1.28 inch (3.25cm).
In fact, the X40 is 2.5 inches (6.4cm) long and wide, while the X55 is a 2.7 inch (6.8cm) square. The difference seems minimal, but it is certainly noticeable when both are put next to each other.
Both weigh around the same (5.23oz vs 5.29oz / 148g vs 150g), which is surprising given the X40’s metal build.
The X55 Turbo (top) can charge as a flat strip unlike the X40 Turbo (bottom) that will fold flat but with charging pads not exposed on the same side.Simon Jary
The X55’s secret feature that is lacking in the X40 is its ability to lie flat as well as pull up to form a stand. This is made possible by the USB-C power input port being situated on the side of the X55 Turbo, rather than at the back as it is on the X40 Turbo.
A minor niggle: the Apple Watch charging module sits straighter on the back of the X40 Turbo than it does the X55 Turbo, where it is lower and on an angle. This doesn’t impact charging, and is probably more robust but just looks slightly odd in comparison.
The X40 Turbo (left) is physically a little smaller than the X55 (right) in length and width.Simon Jary
The height of the folded X55 probably makes it too large to comfortably sit in a tight trouser pocket, where the X40 is dinky enough to do so with ease. One should remember however that you need to pack a USB-C wall charger and cable with you. Kuxiu includes both in the tidy gray travel case that ships with each charger.
Simon Jary
Performance: Is the cheaper X55 just as fast?
Unsurprisingly for certified Qi2.2 devices, the X40 Turbo and X55 Turbo are matched in terms of charging speed. An iPhone 16 or 17 series will charge to 50% in just over 30 minutes at full 25W speed. Earlier iPhones (12-15) charge at a slower 15W on both the X55 and X40 Turbo as they don’t support 25W Qi2.2 charging.
Qi2.2 (aka Qi2 25W) maxes power output to a possible 25W for the iPhone 16 and 17 models—excluding the 16e (which Apple took the strange decision to make non-magnetic) and iPhone Air (limited to 20W for thermal management reasons).
Color choices
The metal Kuxiu X40 Turbo comes in a range of colors, including Black, Gray, Wood and Cosmic Orange.
On the Kuxiu online store, the plastic X55 is available only in black. On Amazon it’s available in orange as well as black.
Wireless travel rivals: Which is better for travel?
Even pushing the boundaries at 25W the X40 Turbo is the slimmest 3-in-1 charging stand we’ve tested. You can find slimmer 3-in-1 chargers but these lie flat rather than create a handy viewing stand. For example, the fold-out Mouse 3-in-1 Wireless Charger is super slim at 3.5 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches (9 x 6.2 x 1.3cm) but it’s not a robust stand like the Kuxiu 3-in-1 foldable chargers.
As we mentioned in the X40 Turbo review, the wireless travel charger market is a rich one, although many of the chargers look boringly similar.
The Kuxiu X40 Turbo and X55 Turbo feature a neat folding stack that pulls out to create a stand—and can also lie flat in the case of the X55 Turbo. In this regard, the biggest rival to the X55 Turbo is its X40 Turbo sibling.
The $139 25W Ugreen MagFlow 3-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charger is twice as long and a little deeper with the Apple Watch charging module pulled out from the base next to the AirPods pad.
Another folding stand is the ESR CryoBoost Foldable 3-in-1 Magnetic Charging Station, which is also rated at up to 25W. The $89 Baseus PicoGo AF21 3-in-1 Qi2.2 Wireless Charger is another dinky travel charger stand that measures 2.97 x 3.15 x 1.5 inches (7.5 x 8 x 3.8cm) and weighs 9oz (254g).
The $89 Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Folding Wireless Charging Station remains at 15W Qi2 for now and is a more organic UFO-like shape that unfolds to create a longer flat strip.
All have their benefits: the Ugreen creates a more stable stand, and the Anker is cute and pocketable. The Kuxiu 3-in-1 models are somewhere in between: cute in size and creating a reasonably tall stand considering their folded-down dimensions.
Realistically though, the main competition for the X55 Turbo is the X40 Turbo.
If portability matters most, buy the X40.
If you want 25W charging for less money, buy the X55.
Simon Jary
Price: Is the X55 worth the $20 saving?
The Kuxiu X55 Turbo 25W Wireless Charging Station is priced at $59.98 / £45 / €51,95 direct or from Amazon and Amazon UK.
That compares to $78.99 / £59 / €67,95 for the X40 Turbo.
For the extra money the X40 Turbo is smaller and made of metal, plus there’s a wider range of colors to choose from. The slightly larger but notably deeper plastic X55 Turbo has the added ability to lie flat as well as in a stand.
We’ve provided links buying direct to the products here but be careful that you are choosing the right one. There’s an X55, X55Plus, X55 Ultra and X55 Turbo, just as there are a few X40 models. For owners of the iPhone 16 and 17 series, and anyone considering an upgrade in the future, we recommend buying the Turbo for its charging speed and size.
Should you buy the Kuxiu X55 Turbo 25W Wireless Charging Station?
The Kuxiu X55 Turbo is a more affordable variant of the metal X40 Turbo, rated at the same super-fast charging speeds for iPhone, AirPods and Watch. While maybe not as pocketable it’s just as portable, and the choice between the two Kuxiu chargers may just come down to color choice depending on your region.

Report: One in Four Smartphones Are Now iPhones Nearly one in four active smartphones worldwide are now iPhones, according to new data from Counterpoint Research.
The findings from Counterpoint's Smartphone Installed Base Tracker show that the global installed base of active smartphones grew 2% in 2025, driven primarily by lengthening replacement cycles and the continued circulation of second-life devices. Unlike shipment figures, which measure yearly sales, installed base data reflects the total number of devices currently in use, making it a key indicator of long-term platform choices.
Apple now leads the global active smartphone installed base with roughly one in four devices in use being an iPhone. The firm attributes this position to a combination of strong user loyalty, integrated services, and the broader Apple ecosystem.
The report also claims that Apple added more net new active smartphone devices in 2025 than the next seven leading smartphone manufacturers combined, reflecting the company's ability to attract and retain users even as global smartphone growth slows and hardware innovation becomes more incremental.
Samsung ranked second with approximately one-fifth of the global active smartphone installed base. Together, Apple and Samsung accounted for 44% of the global installed base in 2025.
The gap between Apple and Samsung as the two market leaders and the rest of the industry is widening. The two companies are the only smartphone manufacturers to surpass one billion active devices globally.
Other brands, including Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo, form a second tier with large but smaller installed bases built largely through midrange and upper-midrange devices. Notably, Transsion Group has grown its installed base through affordable devices targeted at price-sensitive markets in regions such as the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia. HONOR is the most recent brand to surpass 200 million active devices, while Motorola and realme are approaching that milestone.
Apple's vast base of installed devices is attributed to a number of additional trends that favor premium smartphones. For example, device replacement cycles have extended to nearly four years as hardware improvements become more incremental and device durability improves. Premium devices typically receive longer software support, maintain higher resale value, and remain in active use longer, often through to second owners. Repeat purchases are also likely.
The report added that differentiation is increasingly shifting toward software and ecosystem integration as hardware innovation slows. Features such as on-device artificial intelligence, camera software, productivity tools, and cross-device integration are said to be key value drivers that help build long-term loyalty and increase usage. Will the iPhone 18 Pro get a price hike? The latest rumors say no Macworld
When it comes to smartphone launches, the principle of “no news is good news” rarely applies: a new phone that’s largely the same as its predecessor can only be a disappointment. But one exception, particularly at times of economic turmoil, is the price tag.
Last fall’s iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max were premium phones, priced accordingly: the 17 Pro starts at $1,099 and the 17 Pro Max at $1,199. But there have been concerns that the 18 Pro will be even more expensive as a result of market pressures, and it’s with great relief that we can report that the consensus among experts is now that it won’t. No news is good news.
In a research note seen by 9to5Mac this week, GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu reports that Apple has implemented cost-management measures for the late-2026 iPhone refreshes, with the goal of selling the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max at “unchanged [pricing] or at a similar level” to the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. This follows similar predictions by other analysts, including the well-known Ming-Chi Kuo.
Fears of a price hike were based on a RAM supply crunch, largely caused by the AI market and its ever-growing infrastructure needs. Apple itself has acknowledged that this is a challenge. In the Q1 earnings call last month, CEO Tim Cook said that while RAM price increases did not affect the company in that quarter, it’s likely they would have an impact later in the year. Apple is now “in a supply chase mode,” he admitted.
The cost-management measures include negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms (in return, Apple may agree to buy in higher volume) and cost-cutting in areas other than the memory. It isn’t clear how Apple will cut costs on the display and cameras, for example, but under normal conditions, it’s to be expected that the same components will get cheaper year on year.
The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will launch in the fall of 2026, almost certainly in September and probably accompanied by the iPhone Fold. (The price of that, I’m afraid, will be extremely high.) The standard iPhone 18 isn’t expected to launch until the following spring, likely alongside the iPhone 18e.

AirDrop-Quick Share Interoperability Expanding to More Android Phones Last November, Google announced a cross-platform feature that allows Google Pixel 10 and Apple device users to share files directly via QuickShare-AirDrop interoperability. Now, Google has confirmed that the feature is set to expand to Android phones more generally this year.
"Last year, we launched AirDrop interoperability," said Eric Kay, vice president of engineering for the Android platform, speaking during a recent Pixel Labs tour at Google's Taipei office. "In 2026, we're going to be expanding it to a lot more devices."
"We spent a lot of time and energy to make sure that we could build something that was compatible not only with iPhone but iPads and Macs. Now that we've proven it out, we're working with our partners to expand it into the rest of the ecosystem, and you should see some exciting announcements coming very soon," he added. The comments were reported by Android Authority's Adamya Sharma, who attended the press briefing.
The file sharing option currently works on Apple devices including iPhone, iPad, and Mac, along with the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Fold.
Google has not said which specific devices are next in line to get the AirDrop interoperability via Quick Share, but Sharma notes that Kay's comments strongly suggest it will no longer be a Pixel-exclusive feature.
Technical aspects of Google's implementation also appear to signal its intent. Rather than tying AirDrop interoperability to a Pixel-only system component, Google enabled the feature by turning the Quick Share extension from a stub system app into a full APK distributed via the Play Store.
This change makes the feature easier to update and deploy across different manufacturers' devices, strongly indicating that AirDrop interoperability is intended to become a broader Android feature rather than remain limited to Pixel hardware.
Indeed, Nothing has already confirmed that it is working to bring the feature to its phones, while Qualcomm has recently hinted that it also has Quick Share–AirDrop interoperability support in development for Snapdragon-powered phones.
Google says the Quick Share-AirDrop interoperability uses a multi-layered security model, including an encrypted transfer channel, built-in platform protections on both Android and iOS, and an explicit consent step before any file is received.
Currently, the feature only works in the "Everyone for 10 Minutes" AirDrop and Quick Share sharing modes, but Google says that it would like to work with Apple to support "Contacts Only" mode in the future.Tags: AirDrop, GoogleThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

5 cool Apple Pencil Pro features you probably don’t know Macworld
For years, the Apple Pencil 2 was the go-to stylus for digital illustrators, offering easy pairing, precise input, pressure sensitivity, shading support, and much more. Then things changed. The iPad maker outdid itself with the $129 Apple Pencil Pro, which builds upon the 2nd-gen model’s solid base and takes the experience to the next level.
Despite its name, the Apple Pencil Pro’s compatibility actually extends to some non-Pro iPad models, including the latest Air and mini variants. (It doesn’t work with the entry-level iPad, however.) But its feature set is absolutely Pro standard.
If you’re using your Apple Pencil Pro for basic doodling and not much else, it’s time to discover how much more it can achieve. In this article we reveal the five main features you need to familiarize yourself with.
Time-saving gestures
The Apple Pencil Pro doesn’t merely mimic your finger, like all those dumb styli out there. Its input varies depending on the way you’re holding it, and it supports a couple of advanced gestures that can accelerate power users’ workflows.
First, the Pencil Pro is pressure-sensitive. In compatible apps, pressing harder will result in a thicker line or a denser application of digital ink.
Similarly, the Pencil Pro can detect variations in hand position. Tilt the stylus and it will switch to a shading action. Roll it, and the selected brush will change angle–a valuable function when using shaped brushes. In other words, it behaves just like a real artistic or writing tool, making it an appealing and reliable option for digital illustrators. In fact, supported iPads will even imitate the selected tool’s shadow as the Pencil hovers over the display, revealing exactly where the tip will hit.
Input aside, the Apple Pencil Pro supports two main gestures that you can personalize in the Settings app on iPadOS. The double-tap gesture, first of all, lets you quickly switch between tools, show the color palette, or various other useful actions. You just have to tap the side of the stylus twice in quick succession.
Likewise, the squeezing gesture can be assigned to a task of your choice; you can also choose how firmly you need to press to trigger it. The best part about squeezing is that you can link it to a series of actions via the built-in Shortcuts app, letting you execute complex tasks with a single action. This gesture also (optionally) provides haptic feedback when triggered, giving the experience a premium feel.
Squeezy does it: Tactile gestures give you quick access to useful features.Mahmoud Itani / Foundry
Turn handwriting into digital text
Notetakers, this one’s for you. The Apple Pencil Pro supports iPadOS’s Scribble feature, which replicates and refines traditional note-taking by converting your handwriting into typed words you can insert in any textbox.
It also borrows logical gestures to minimize the need for a keyboard. You can scratch out words to delete them, or circle words to select them. Similarly, you can make room to write words by tapping and holding on the desired spot, and join or separate words by drawing a vertical line before or after the target. These turn Scribble into an intuitive way to input text using just your Apple Pencil.

Instant notes
If you’re late to class, don’t worry! With the Apple Pencil Pro, you can start taking notes right away. Assuming you’ve allowed this in your preferences (open Settings and go to Apps > Notes > Access Notes from Lock Screen), you won’t need to unlock your iPad or launch any apps manually. All you’ll need to do is use the Pencil to tap the display, even if it’s asleep. By default this will start a new entry in the Notes app, although in the same section of Settings you can instead tell it to resume the last one.
Similarly, you can quickly start a note anywhere in iPadOS by swiping diagonally with your Pencil from the assigned bottom corner. The other bottom corner can be configured to take a screenshot. Open the Settings app and go to the Apple Pencil section to assign your corners.
AirTag in disguise
How many Apple Pencils have gotten lost over the years? We’d guess the answer is a lot. The Apple Pencil Pro addresses this matter by tapping into the extensive Find My network. If you ever lose it, you can simply launch the Find My app on your iPad to precisely locate it. The last known location will also appear on that app in iOS and macOS, albeit without the precision finding perk.
The Apple Pencil Pro doesn’t beep, so the process of tracking it down may be a bit more challenging than finding an AirTag. Nevertheless, the Find My integration works reliably and is welcome, especially since it prevents thieves from pairing it to their own accounts and helps anyone who finds it to get in touch with you.
Lost your Apple Pencil Pro? Not for long.Mahmoud Itani / Foundry
Make the battery go further
The Apple Pencil Pro, like the 2nd-gen model, pairs and recharges by attaching magnetically to the edge of your iPad. Most users leave it there for storage when not in use, as this keeps it conveniently within reach and ensures it’s fully charged when needed. But this may not be the best policy if you don’t use the Apple Pencil Pro every day.
The Apple Pencil Pro packs a lithium-ion battery, which wears down the more you use it. To prevent damage, iPadOS will allow your Apple Pencil’s battery to drain a bit and refill it when attached for prolonged periods. This process can both drain your iPad’s battery and unnecessarily strain the one in the Apple Pencil.
In other words, if you use the Pencil only sporadically, you may want to store it somewhere other than the edge of your iPad. Contrary to popular belief, the Apple Pencil Pro’s battery doesn’t drain rapidly when it’s left idle. Based on personal tests, my Pencil lost only 1% of its charge after being detached for over 24 hours. If you store it in a drawer or on your desk, the chances are that it will be ready to go the next time you need it… assuming you don’t leave it there for months on end. And you’ll save yourself those unnecessary battery cycles.

Best for: Lightweight overnight travel charging
Not for: Fast top-ups or 15W/25W Qi2 charging
I’ve tested a lot of MagSafe, Qi2 and other magnetic wireless chargers and power banks, and have road-tested plenty of 3-in-1 chargers at home, in the office and on the road—not actually on the road, you understand, but on my travels.
Aside from charging speed—between 7.5W and 25W—I look for design, size and weight.
When I first picked up the Mous 3-In-1 Wireless Portable Charger I couldn’t believe just how light this thing is. In fact, I thought the box was empty! Out of the box, it weighs just 3oz (85g) and is pretty tiny too. It’s hard to believe that something so light and small can simultaneously charge an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods case.
To put that into context, the lightest 3-in-1 charger I’d tested before now is the ESR CryoBoost Foldable 3-in-1 Magnetic Charging Station, weighing 5.2oz (148g).
Simon Jary
Design: How small and light is it really?
Folded, the Mous 3-In-1 Wireless Portable Charger measures just 3.5 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches (9 x 6.2 x 1.3cm). That’s about the length and width a standard playing card, and in depth around the size of half a pack. It should fit in your trouser or jacket pocket without you noticing.
It unfolds to a width of 5.4 inches (13.6cm), and less than a third of an inch (8mm) deep, with a faux leather folding hinge between.
On one side is the MagSafe-compatible magnetic charging pad for your iPhone (iPhone 12 and later), and on the other is a recessed Qi-charging pad for a wireless-charging AirPods case plus a pop-up Apple Watch module.
From left: Mous, Anker and Kuxiu compact 3-in-1 wireless chargers in folded position.Simon Jary
Other compact 3-in-1 wireless chargers include the 25W ESR CryoBoost Foldable 3-in-1 Magnetic Charging Station or 25W Kuxiu X40 Turbo 25W Wireless Charging Station (both weighing 5.2oz / 148g) and UFO-shaped 15W Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Folding Wireless Charging Station (3.7oz / 105g). Those dinky travel chargers are small and weigh little but the 3oz / 85g Mous really is petite in comparison.
Mous 3-in-1 at top left opens flat like the Anker MagGo at the bottom, while the Kuxiu X40 Turbo is a charging stand,Simon Jary
Performance: How fast does it charge compared to rivals?
The Mous 3-In-1 Wireless Portable Charger isn’t built with the latest 25W Qi2.2 wireless charging technology or even the older 15W Qi2 standard. It’s not certified MagSafe but is “MagSafe-compatible”. As such, it works with all Apple’s MagSafe iPhones (12-17, with the curious exception of the 16e) but is powered at a low 7.5W, so notably slower than 15W or 25W.
The travel-charger alternatives mentioned above are heavier and larger but faster, from 15W (Anker MagGo) to 25W (ESR and Kuxiu).
While 25W charging—available to only the iPhone 16 and later—will take an iPhone from 0% to 50% in just over half an hour, and 15W in about 45 minutes, 7.5W is more likely to take 70-90 minutes to reach the same recharge level. Once past 50% the iPhone restricts incoming power so for the full 100% recharge the different speeds are a little more levelled.
This mini charger is therefore not for you if you need to get as much power into your iPhone as quickly as possible, but if that was your aim you’d be better charging straight with a cable anyway.
If, however, you’re in less of a rush—say charging overnight—the speed difference will matter less. This solution prioritizes size over speed.
The Apple Watch charging pad is also not at a speed that Apple designs as enough for fast-charging (5W) so you’re in the same position there. Again, the fastest speeds are not required when overnight charging.
Mous
Price: Is it worth $39.99?
The Mous 3-In-1 Wireless Portable Charger isn’t just small in size but in price, too. $39.99 for a 3-in-1 wireless charger is great value. Most similar 3-in-1 chargers—to be fair, much faster ones—cost between $69 and $99, and none are as small or lightweight.

Should you buy the Mous 3-In-1 Wireless Portable Charger?
It’s certainly not the fastest 3-in-1 wireless charger, but the Mous 3-In-1 Wireless Portable Charger is without doubt the smallest and lightest we’ve tested. If you’re using it to charge your iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods overnight or at your leisure during the day, this is an excellent super-light, compact portable charger for your travels.

M5 MacBook Air: Release Date, Features, and Performance Predictions The MacBook Air is Apple's most popular laptop – a thin, fanless machine that wields quiet power thanks to the efficiency of Apple silicon. While the M4 model isn't exactly old, attention is already turning to its successor.
Apple doesn't telegraph new product launches ahead of time, but we can draw a surprisingly clear picture of what to expect by looking at Apple's silicon roadmap, release cycles, and past upgrades.
Release Timing and Price
Apple appears to have settled into a spring refresh cycle for the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air. After releasing the M2 model in mid-2022 with an all-new design, Apple skipped 2023 and then delivered back-to-back M3 and M4 MacBook Air updates in March 2024 and March 2025, respectively.
Indeed, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple plans to roll out M5 versions of the MacBook Air in the first quarter of this year. This suggests a likely March 2026 window – unless Apple breaks the cycle, of course. As for pricing, we expect it to remain stable, with the base model sticking with the current entry-level $999 price.
Processor Upgrade
The M5 series is expected to feature an enhanced ARM architecture and is reportedly being manufactured using TSMC's advanced 3-nanometer process technology. Apple's decision to forgo TSMC's more advanced 2nm process for the M5 chip is believed to be due to cost considerations.
Recent leaked benchmarks – allegedly from a next-gen iPad Pro running an M5 chip – show single-core scores around 4,133 and multi-core scores around 15,437. That's roughly a 12-15% jump over the current M4 iPad Pro in both categories. As for graphics performance, the M5 chip appears to have up to a 36% faster GPU compared to the M4 chip.
The benchmark suggests Apple has focused on modest clock speed increases and core-level efficiency improvements for the M5 chip, rather than an architecture overhaul. In other words, the M5 will be similar to the step-wise performance upgrade from M3 to M4. Expect 10-15% faster CPU speeds, a slightly more powerful GPU, and better efficiency, potentially leading to even longer battery life.
As a result, the M5 MacBook Air will likely feel more responsive in daily use, particularly in single-threaded tasks, but it won't dramatically outpace the M4 for sustained workloads like video rendering.
Display and Other Possible Changes
M4 MacBook Air in Sky Blue, the color Apple debuted earlier this year
Apple tends to stick with the same industrial design for multiple chip generations. The current MacBook Air design (introduced with the M2 model) is only three years old and shows no signs of ageing. Expect the same 13- and 15-inch sizes, the same fanless aluminium unibody, and similar display technology – that means no OLED, which Apple appears to be saving for initial adoption in the MacBook Pro line, possibly later this year or in 2027.
If there are any physical changes, they'll likely be subtle. Think improved webcam quality, or tweaks to accommodate the next generation of wireless connectivity (such as Wi-Fi 7 or Bluetooth LE Audio). You never know – Apple could even offer the machine in a new color, just like it did this earlier year with the M4.
Looking Further Ahead
According to reports out of Korea, Apple plans to release a MacBook Air with an improved LCD display in 2027, featuring Oxide TFT technology instead of the current amorphous silicon (a-Si) panels.
The new display technology is said to be a significant upgrade over current MacBook Air screens. Oxide TFT LCD panels offer better power efficiency and improved performance compared to traditional a-Si displays, resulting in sharper images, smoother scrolling, and enhanced battery life.
The transition to Oxide TFT technology should also mean faster pixel response times and more consistent brightness across the screen. In practical terms, this should translate to reduced motion blur when watching videos or gaming, and more uniform lighting without the "clouding" effect sometimes visible on current LCD displays.Related Roundup: MacBook AirBuyer's Guide: 15" MacBook Air (Caution), 13" MacBook Air (Don't Buy)Related Forum: MacBook AirThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
Subscription culture put my Mac at risk Macworld
You’ve heard this before: as a Mac user, it’s important to keep your apps up to date. Doing so not only ensures you get all the latest features as they arrive, but it also keeps your computer safe and vulnerabilities patched.
Why, then, is it so hard to keep your apps updated? Sure, the App Store lets you upgrade multiple apps at once, but many Mac users download apps from all sorts of third-party websites, not just from Apple’s storefront. That means updating requires opening and checking each installed app individually–a nightmare if you have more than a handful running on your Mac.
For many years, I’ve been using an app called MacUpdater to solve this problem. Open it up, and it scans your installed apps, then installs any updates in one go. It has a clean interface, can run updates from the menu bar, is highly customizable, and finds updates whether your apps are from the App Store or elsewhere. Plus, it required a single, one-off payment, without a subscription in sight.
Except that’s become a major problem. In 2025, MacUpdater’s creator said they’d be ceasing development come January 2026. Now that that date has rolled around, the developer has revealed that the one-off payment method was unsustainable, while they were also opposed to implementing ongoing subscriptions. As a result, MacUpdater died off.
Since hearing that news, I’ve been searching for an alternative updater app and have put plenty through their paces. After much testing, I think I’ve reached a way forward, but MacUpdater’s demise has left a significant hole in my macOS life. It highlights how difficult it can be to keep your computer safe and up to spec without the hassle, and what you can do to keep your Mac apps chugging smoothly along.
MacUpdate Desktop
MacUpdate DesktopFoundry
The first app I tried in place of MacUpdater was the similarly named MacUpdate Desktop, which costs $9.99 for a one-year subscription. This felt like a natural first stop because it’s maintained by MacUpdate, a prominent website that catalogues new versions of Mac apps and offers them for download.
In terms of raw updates found, MacUpdate Desktop was easily the best app I tried. It came up with 14 installed apps that needed updating, more than three times the closest competitor. That gave me confidence that it wouldn’t miss important releases, which perhaps is unsurprising given the nature of the MacUpdate website. But that’s about as far as the positives went.
Unfortunately, there is a lot to dislike about this app. The main issue is that there’s no way to bulk update your apps. Yes, it found plenty of updates, but I had to go through them all one by one, which quickly got tiresome. There’s also more bloat than I need, including a store to download new apps and a collections tab that sorts your apps into groups (which wasn’t particularly useful).
There’s also no way around the interface: it’s bad. MacUpdate Desktop doesn’t feel like a native Mac app; instead looking like a website that’s been housed in a simple app wrapper. Its menus are non-native, there’s extremely limited customization, and the menu bar icon leaves a lot to be desired.
All in all, then, this is probably one to avoid. The app is still in beta, so hopefully improvements are on the way. It’s not an encouraging start, though.
Updatest
Updatest
Foundry
Next up is an independent app called Updatest. I was immediately interested in this because it can check for updates to Homebrew projects, Electron apps, and those from GitHub, something that many app updaters can’t do. That’s an extra degree of flexibility for people who need it.
Unfortunately, it only found four app updates for me, far fewer than the 14 MacUpdate Desktop located. Annoyingly, it also couldn’t automatically update some apps that other updaters could.
Still, there’s an awful lot to like about Updatest. Unlike MacUpdate Desktop, its slick, professional design helps it feel like a familiar, native Mac app. Its Dock icon shows how many apps need updating, and while its menu bar icon isn’t as powerful as MacUpdater’s, it’s still useful. You can skip or ignore apps (either permanently or temporarily) and, importantly, update them in bulk.
It also only requires a one-off payment of $9.99, with no ongoing subscription. Paying users gain access to an addon that surfaces anonymized update info from the community, which is handy if Updatest can’t find info on whether an app has a new version (this feature is expected to require a payment in the future).
With filters for apps from the likes of Setapp and TestFlight (as well as standard sources like Sparkle and the App Store), Updatest has a lot of welcome features thrown in. It’s come close to scratching the MacUpdater itch, and while it’s not perfect, it’s a strong offering.
CleanMyMac
Foundry
While Updatest is a resolutely simple app, CleanMyMac occupies the other end of the spectrum. It’s an all-in-one package that cleans your system, scans for viruses, tweaks your Mac’s performance, and a lot more. That could be just what you need, but it also means that there’s a huge amount of bloat if all you want is an app updater.
As well as all those extra features, its design is hard to miss and certainly won’t be to everyone’s tastes. I was also a little disappointed that it only found four apps to update. Curiously, three of those four were different from the four discovered by Updatest.
That said, CleanMyMac comes with a bulk update feature that lets you keep your apps healthy in just a few clicks. The app itself also feels highly polished and comes with a lot of quality-of-life features added in, plus it’s made by a well-known Mac-only developer in the form of MacPaw.
At $39.95 for a one-year subscription, though, it’s expensive, especially if you’re just looking for an app updater. It’s probably only worth considering if you are after something more all-encompassing.
Latest
Foundry
The final app to land on my desk was Latest. This is, on the face of it, the most straightforward app here, and a far cry from the bold design sentiments of CleanMyMac. There’s a left-hand column that lists your apps and those that need updating, with a right-hand column containing more info on each app you click on. And that’s about it as far as the design goes.
There are pleasing extras located here and there. There’s a bulk update option hidden in the File menu, and like Updatest, it shows the number of app updates on the Dock icon. It’s easy to use, quick to get started, and is totally bloat-free.
It’s all totally free, period. There’s no subscription, no one-off payment, and no trial, just a freely distributed app that’s yours to keep. After MacUpdater’s woes, that’s refreshing.
What do I do know?
Despite none of the apps I tested meeting the high-water mark set by MacUpdater, it’s probably still worth using one, if only because they beat having to open every app you’ve installed and check for updates individually.
MacUpdate Desktop gave me the most confidence in terms of the number of app updates it found, but it has a lot of problems: it feels horrible to use, it’s not much of a looker, and it’s missing bulk update and other much-needed features. Thankfully, there are other options.
If you’re undecided, Latest is a good place to start, as it is free, so you lose nothing by trying it. The other apps all have time-limited free trials, so they’re worth testing out too if you’re unsure.
But what became clear from my testing was that MacUpdater’s demise has left a vacuum in this space for Mac updaters. We need a simple, reliable way to keep our apps up to date, wherever we downloaded them from. For now, I’m going to keep looking.
iPhone 18 Pro: Apple's C2 Modem to Support 5G Satellite Connectivity Apple's next-generation C2 modem will bring support for 5G satellite connectivity to this year's iPhone 18 Pro models, based on claims made by a Chinese leaker.
In a post on Weibo, the account "Fixed Focus Digital" said that Apple's C2 baseband modem – expected to debut in iPhone 18 Pro models – will support NR-NTN, or New Radio Non-Terrestrial Networks.
The NR-NTN standard can relate to direct phone-to-satellite links as well as the use of satellites as backhaul for carrier networks to extend coverage into remote areas. Going on a machine translation, the leaker appears to suggest Apple's implementation will allow iPhones to connect directly to satellites for internet access.
This is not the first time we have heard rumors that the iPhone 18 Pro will support 5G satellite connectivity. However, it is the first occasion that NR-NTN support has been explicitly tied to Apple's C2 modem as a technical specification of its baseband stack.
Last October, The Information's Wayne Ma reported that Apple plans to add support in iPhones as early as this year for 5G networks that "aren't tethered to Earth's surface, which includes satellites." This would reportedly give the iPhone full internet access over satellite.
Then in November, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman referenced Ma's report and said that Apple is developing "satellite over 5G" for this year's iPhones, allowing the devices to leverage cellular towers to tap satellites for increased coverage when standard networks aren't available.
Note that Gurman's report describes support for a satellite backhaul for carrier networks, not the direct device-to-satellite model that Fixed Focus Digital latest leak and Ma's report suggests.
According to Gurman, Apple is also working on several additional satellite features, including an API to let developers add satellite connections to third-party apps, satellite-powered Apple Maps, and support for photos in satellite messages. Apple also reportedly aims to eliminate the need to physically point the device toward the sky, allowing satellite to stay connected in your pocket or even indoors.
It's unclear what stage of development these other features are in, and there's a high likelihood that they do not relate to Apple's initial adoption of 5G satellite connectivity this year. Bringing many of these features to market will also require major upgrades to Globalstar's aging satellite infrastructure, which Apple currently relies on.
Apple's existing satellite features on iPhone 14 models and newer are limited to the Emergency SOS feature, the Find My and Messages apps, and roadside assistance. These features require you to have a clear view of the sky for direct satellite communication.
Previous reporting suggests that the C2 modem will be more capable than the current C1 and C1X. The C2 may feature mmWave 5G connectivity, for example, and it is likely to be closer in performance to the Qualcomm modem chips that it will replace.

The Apple Watch is the best smartwatch you can buy, but it’s not cheap. Luckily, you don’t have to pay full price for an Apple Watch. Resellers frequently offer fantastic deals on all models, and in this article we are tracking deals for the new Apple Watch 11, SE 3 and Ultra 3 which were introduced in September 2025, as well as the older Apple Watch 10, SE 2 and Ultra 2.
How we find the best Apple Watch deals
To find the best Apple Watch deals we continuously monitor the market to spot the most worthwhile bargains, but, ultimately, our recommendations are based on our own in-experience with the full range of Apple Watches, which we have reviewed and use daily. Our editors’ selections are guided by a simple principle: we won’t recommend buying something that we wouldn’t buy ourselves. We focus on products at prices we believe are fair, ensuring our recommendations steer you toward genuine savings.
Price is just one factor we consider. A significant part of our methodology is evaluating the overall value of a deal, especially when comparing different generations of the Apple Watch. When Apple launches new models, such as the Series 11, SE 3, and Ultra 3, we see resellers clear out stock of previous-generation models at lower prices. We highlight these opportunities, as older models like the Series 10 or Ultra 2 can become excellent alternatives to the latest releases.
It isn’t always the case that an older Watch is a good option though: we’ve previously advised readers to avoid what seemed like an all-time-low price on an older Apple Watch SE 2 because the newer Apple Watch SE 3, available for just $40 more, offered a vastly superior feature set, including an always-on display, a faster chip, and better battery life.
We also recommend checking the Apple Refurbished Store as a source for year-round discounts. Products from this store are revamped by Apple and include a one-year warranty, often providing substantial savings on recent models like the Apple Watch Series 10 or Ultra 2.
Is now a good time to buy a new Apple Watch?
David Price / Foundry
Now is an excellent time to buy a new Apple Watch. The latest models, the Series 11, SE 3, and Ultra 3, were released in September 2025, so the product line is fresh, and you won’t have to worry about a new model arriving just weeks after your purchase. Additionally, despite Black Friday having passed, holiday deals are still abundant, offering significant savings on both the newest and previous-generation watches.
That said, the best time to buy is during the major sales events: Amazon’s Prime Day in July and October, or Black Friday in November. There may also be deals during Amazon’s spring sale. The worst time to buy is in the summer, just before Apple’s usual September hardware update, as you risk purchasing a device that will soon be outdated.
We also have a guide to the best Apple deals right now on all Apple products, including MacBook Air deals, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, iPhone and iPad.
Which Apple Watch to buy
David Price / Foundry
When choosing which Apple Watch to buy you should consider various factors. If you need advanced health sensors, like ECG and blood oxygen monitoring, then you need to choose the Series 11 and Ultra 3 (or the Series 10 and Ultra 2) because the SE doesn’t offer those options. But if you are on a budget the Apple Watch SE 3 offers importtant features like Fall Detection and heart rate monitoring, and comes at an affordable price. The best battery life is offered by the Apple Watch Ultra 3, but the SEries 11 offers a solid 24 hours, and even the 18 hour SE 3 will be sufficient for most people, plus charging can be done in less than an hour.
Apple Watch Series 11: This model features a 24-hour battery life, 5G connectivity on cellular models, and a more scratch-resistant display. While it shares the same S10 chip and many health features with the Series 10, its improved battery is a key advantage. Deals have been spotted offering up to $100 off, bringing the price down to as low as $299.
Apple Watch SE 3: This Apple Watch is the best value option for most people. The SE 3 received a major upgrade, including an always-on display, a faster chip, temperature sensing, fast charging, and 5G on cellular models. It offers most of the essential features of the Series 11 at a much lower price, starting at $249. It has been on sale for as low as $199.
Apple Watch Ultra 3: Designed for adventurers and sports enthusiasts, the Ultra 3 boasts a 42-hour battery life, a larger and brighter screen, satellite connectivity for emergencies, and a rugged design. It’s the most expensive model, but we have seen discounts of up to $100.
Apple Watch Series 10: You can find significant clearance deals on last-generation models. The Series 10 is very similar to the 11, with the main difference being its 18-hour battery life. It has been seen for as low as $279, a $150 discount.
Apple Watch Ultra 2: This is also a great option, with deals dropping its price by as much as $200.
Apple Watch SE 2: We advise to avoid the Apple Watch SE 2 unless the price is exceptionally low (around $100), as the SE 3 is a far superior and more future-proof device.

Best refurbished Apple Watch deals
One of the best places to look for Apple Watch deals all year round is the Apple Refurbished Store. There, you’ll find huge Apple Watch discounts, sometimes even on the latest models. These Apple Watches have been returned to Apple for various reasons, and then completely revamped for resale. One of the major benefits of buying a refurbished Watch from Apple is that it will come with a one-year warranty so Apple may fix or replace it for free should anything happen to it in that first year.
In the U.S. you can get an Apple Watch Series 10, 9, 2nd generation Ultra for less. You can, for example, get a 44mm Apple Watch SE with cellular for $239, compared to $279 for the SE 3. It’s a saving, but we’d still recommend the new SE3 which is leaps ahead of the much older SE.
Get a refurbished Apple Watch at Apple's refurbished store (U.S.)
In the U.K. you can save money on an Apple Watch Series 9 and 10 at the moment.
However, the deals aren’t great here. You can get a refurbished Apple Watch Series 10 with Cellular for £479, which is £10 more than the price of the same Apple Watch Series 11 with Cellular new (£469).

Looking for iOS SDK for 360° panorama capture & stitching I'm building an iOS app for real estate agents to capture 360° room scans. What I need: – SDK that captures panoramic photos (either single sweep or multi-shot) – Auto-stitches into equirectangular panorama (2:1 ratio) – Works on iPhone (iOS 17+) – Outputs high-quality panorama for 3D reconstruction What I've tried: – Native iOS panorama […]
App Store Connect shows negative downloads. Is this normal? I recently released a new app, and I was just looking at App Store Connect's analytics page, and the most recent day for some of the charts shows a value below 0. Total downloads are very low (single digits), so I’m guessing this is net installs vs deletions, but the UI doesn’t really explain it […]
How to bring back macOS Launchpad with this neat command-line tool Apple power users on macOS Tahoe are deliberately undoing parts of Apple's latest interface overhaul in order to remove the Liquid Glass design.Bring back Launchpad to macOS TahoeThere's an unofficial workaround that brings back the classic Launchpad app grid and reduces Liquid Glass's heavy translucency. The tool allows users to enjoy macOS Tahoe's performance and feature updates without fully embracing its new visual style.Liquid Glass looks polished in screenshots and marketing videos, with layered blur and reflections giving a sense of depth and motion. In daily use, those effects can feel intrusive, particularly on large displays or detailed wallpapers. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums
How long does it take to get AppConnect Access? Good Morning Team, I have paid for my Apple Developer Membership for the first time. How long does it normally take to get access? Is there anything I should do to make the process faster? submitted by /u/uncertainApple21 [link] [comments]
Professional iOS screenshots For the longest of time, generating app store screenshots has been a nightmare but I stumbled upon an app that generates app store screenshots in minutes that are high quality. My work has been smooth to say the least. Hopefully, this will help someone here submitted by /u/MoonMan901 [link] [comments]
Orientation question So I have a SpriteKit app that only works in landscape. But every time I launch it I get a red message in the console that soon all apps will be required to support all orientations. Also that requiring full screen is flag that will soon be ignored. My question is what do I do? […]
600 companies in Japan want the Epic treatment — a free ride in Apple's ecosystem Apple set up alternative app stores and external payments in Japan similar to how it is being handled in the EU, but developers say it has "no economic incentive" and want to pay nothing to Apple.iOS in Japan has been opened up to alternative app stores, but there's a problemAn ongoing snafu between Apple, Epic, and Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers has led to an injunction forcing Apple to allow external payments without collecting a commission. While that is being appealed in the US, developers in Japan want similar treatment.According to a report from The Japan News, seven IT-related industry groups comprising over 600 companies released a statement asking Apple and Google to eliminate new commissions. They mean the ones for alternative app marketplaces and externally linked purchases that were forced into place by the Mobile Software Competition Law (MSCL). Why You Shouldn't Buy the Next MacBook Pro Apple is planning to launch new MacBook Pro models as soon as early March, but if you can, this is one generation you should skip because there's something much better in the works.
We're waiting on 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with few changes other than the processor upgrade. There won't be any tweaks to the design or the display, but later this year, a massive refresh is coming. Rumors suggest that there won't be just one MacBook Pro refresh in 2026, but two.
After launching M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models in the spring, Apple will do another update in late 2026, introducing the first OLED MacBook Pro models. The OLED MacBook Pro is expected to feature a design refresh, faster M6 chips, all new display technology, and, in a first for the Mac, touch screen capabilities.
It's going to be the biggest update to the Mac lineup since Apple silicon chips came out in 2020. iPhones have used OLED for years, and Apple brought it to the iPad Pro in 2024, but Macs don't use OLED yet.
Apple said for years and years that the Mac wouldn't get a touch screen, but times change. Multiple rumors suggest that touch capabilities are coming, making the Mac more like an iPad. Touch-based controls will be available right alongside traditional mouse and keyboard input options.
The OLED MacBook Pro models will be the first to use Apple's 2-nanometer chip technology, and they could even be the first Macs with cellular capabilities. With so many changes in store, it doesn't make much sense to buy an M5 Pro or an M5 Max MacBook Pro with much better options coming just months later.
OLED touch displays will be limited to the higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch models because of the cost, so the warning isn't applicable to the standard M5 MacBook Pro that came out last fall. The entry-level MacBook Pro isn't expected to get the same upgrades, though it is likely to get an M6 chip.
It's also possible OLED will be so expensive that it's limited to a single, super expensive high-end model, but we're still probably looking at M6 chip upgrades and a design refresh across the lineup.
Two Mac refreshes in a single year is unusual, but not unheard of. Apple refreshed the MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips in January 2023, and then updated the machines again with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips in October 2023.
Normally a Mac refresh results in a Buy Now recommendation from us, but this year, with rumors of two updates in 2026 and so much expected from the later models, those interested in a high-end, premium MacBook Pro should plan to wait.Related Roundup: MacBook ProBuyer's Guide: MacBook Pro (Caution)Related Forum: MacBook ProThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
