AirPods Live Translation feature coming to the EU next month After being delayed due to the regulatory uncertainty of rules surrounding the Digital Market Act, Apple has now confirmed that the flashy Live Translation feature for AirPods Pro and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation will be available in the European Union from next month.
The feature requires compatible AirPods paired to an iPhone capable of running Apple Intelligence, that is iPhone 15 Pro or newer. It will presumably debut in the EU as part of the iOS 26.2 update, which hit the developer beta channels today.

watchOS 26.2 Updates Sleep Score Ranges watchOS 26.2 tweaks the Sleep Score feature that's available for the Apple Watch, changing the labeling for point ranges to better match how people might be feeling after a restless night of sleep.
The new scores are as follows:
Very Low - 0-40 (previously 0-29)
Low - 41-60 (previously 30-49)
OK - 61-80 (previously 50-69)
High - 81-95 (previously 70-89)
Very High - 96-100 (previously 90-100)
The "Very High" rank used to be "Excellent," but Apple changed the name to be more in line with the other labels.
At the current time, five or six hours of restless sleep can still earn a "High" score, even though most people probably aren't feeling their best with that amount of sleep.
Sleep Score is a watchOS 26 feature that takes into account sleep duration, bedtime, and interruptions to assign a nightly score that represents sleep quality. Duration is worth 50 points, bedtime is worth 30, and interruptions (times woken up in the night) are worth 20.
Apple intends for Sleep Score to provide an overall sense of sleep patterns, helping users to identify habits that might be impacting sleep. Sleep Score requires an Apple Watch, and it works on all Apple Watch models that support watchOS 26.Related Roundup: watchOS 26Related Forum: Apple WatchThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Apple Prepares To Enter Low-Cost Laptop Market for First Time Apple is preparing to enter the low-cost laptop market for the first time, developing a budget Mac aimed at luring away customers from Chromebooks and entry-level Windows PCs. Bloomberg News: The new device -- designed for students, businesses and casual users -- will target people who primarily browse the web, work on documents or conduct light media editing, according to people familiar with the matter.
[...] Apple plans to sell the new machine for well under $1,000 by using less-advanced components. The laptop will rely on an iPhone processor and a lower-end LCD display. The screen will also be the smallest of any current Mac, coming in at slightly below the 13.6-inch one used in the MacBook Air. This would mark the first time that Apple has used an iPhone processor in a Mac, rather than a chip designed specifically for a computer. But internal tests have shown that the smartphone chip can perform better than the Mac-optimized M1 used in laptops as recently as a few years ago.

Apple Seeds First Betas of iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2 to Developers Apple today seeded the first betas of upcoming iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the software coming a day after Apple released iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1.
Registered developers can download the betas from the Settings app on the iPhone or iPad by going to the General section and selecting Software Update.
We don't yet know what's included in the new beta software, but given that these updates will be tested over the holiday period, Apple may be planning to focus on bug fixes and performance improvements rather than adding notable new features.
When we learn what's new in the updates, we'll share details.

The software updates are available through the Settings app on each device, and because these are developer betas, a free developer account is required.
We don't know what new features might be added in watchOS 26.2, visionOS 26.2, and tvOS 26.2. Apple doesn't typically provide release notes for betas, so we might not know what's new until the software updates see a public launch unless there are outward-facing changes.
Apple will likely provide public beta testers with access to the tvOS 26.2 and watchOS 26.2 betas later this week, but visionOS 26.2 will remain limited to developers. The software updates will probably launch sometime between December 9 and December 16, given Apple's historical release timelines for .2 updates. This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

iPhone 18 Pro Rumored to Come in Only One of These New Colors Apple is testing three new color options for iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models, according to a known leaker, but they have since clarified that the company plans to move forward with only one of the three new finishes.
The color options that Apple is considering include burgundy, brown, and purple, according to Instant Digital, a user on Chinese social media platform Weibo.
Instant Digital has accurately leaked Apple information before, such as the Yellow finish for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2's Titanium Milanese Loop. However, the account does not have a perfect track record.
The image above is merely a concept — the exact shades of the rumored colors are unknown.
iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models come in Silver, Cosmic Orange, and Deep Blue. It is unclear if Apple will reuse any of those colors next year.
If the special new color ends up being burgundy, it would be the first time that the Pro and Pro Max models are available in red, although it would be a deeper shade than Apple's charitable (PRODUCT)RED color for other past devices.
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models were available in Deep Purple.
There has never been a truly brown iPhone.
Given the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are not expected to launch until September 2026, there is still plenty of time for Apple to finalize its color decisions.Related Roundup: iPhone 18Tag: Instant DigitalRelated Forum: iPhoneThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Apple Launching Budget MacBook in 2026 Apple is developing a more affordable Mac notebook that's set to come out in the first half of 2026, according to Bloomberg. The machine will cost "well under $1,000" and it will compete with affordable Windows machines and Chromebooks.
Apple's lowest priced Mac notebook right now is the MacBook Air, which starts at $999, though students can get a $100 discount through the Education Store. The Mac mini desktop machine is more affordable at $599, but it is not portable and does not come with a display or peripherals.
While Apple has long had a more affordable "SE" version of the iPhone, Macs have always been more expensive, premium devices. Cheaper PCs have seen success with students and those that don't need capabilities beyond web browsing and document creation.
The low-cost Mac could replace the entry-level iPad and keyboard combo that some people use as an affordable way to get a PC-capable Apple device.
We've heard multiple rumors about Apple's plan for a lower-cost notebook over the last few months. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in June that the machine would have a 13-inch display and an A-series iPhone processor rather than a Mac processor. Apple will reportedly use the A18 Pro chip that first came out in the iPhone 16 Pro.
Kuo said that Apple could offer the Mac in bright colors like the iMac, selling it in Silver, Blue, Pink, and Yellow.
The low-cost MacBook will not replace any existing Mac in Apple's lineup, and it will be sold alongside M5 versions of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro that Apple plans to debut early in 2026.This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

M2 vs. M5 Vision Pro: 20+ Differences Compared Apple recently refreshed its Vision Pro headset with the M5 chip, but how different is it from the original version? This guide lists all of the differences between the two models.
While the latest model sees no hardware changes beyond the chip and the headband, the M5 chip unlocks a series of new capabilities for the Vision Pro, such as a higher refresh rate, more rendered pixels, and longer battery life.
The M5 Vision Pro isn't classified as a second-generation model, which reveals how incremental Apple sees the update over the original M2 version. Nevertheless, it refines the headset in specific ways. All of the differences between the two models are as follows:

The new chip is dramatically more powerful and efficient, making the device tangibly faster at tasks that push multiple subsystems at once, such as creating spatial photos or loading widget-heavy environments. Latency is reduced and overall responsiveness improves enough to feel noticeable in daily use. While there aren't many workflows that can take full advantage of the M5 chip's capabilities, it provides considerable performance headroom and strengthens the headset's technical foundation for future versions of visionOS and third-party apps.
That said, the upgrade is still bound by the same cameras, sensors, and displays as the M2 model. The new 120 Hz refresh rate and 10% increase in rendered pixels subtly enhance motion smoothness and realism, but they don't transform the experience. Battery life is also slightly better, yet none of these shifts make the M2 version feel obsolete. The software remains identical across both models, and since the new Dual Knit Band is available separately, comfort is also not a differentiator.
For current owners, the decision to upgrade hinges on use-case. Developers, designers, or professionals who push the headset to its limits will appreciate the added headroom and smoother responsiveness. For everyone else—especially those who primarily use the Vision Pro for watching TV and movies, Mac Virtual Display, browsing, or light productivity—the M2 version still delivers the same fundamental experience.
The M2 model's secondary-market prices also change the equation. With no trade-in program and units now listed on eBay at substantially lower prices, the original Vision Pro has become a far more accessible entry point into Apple's spatial computing experience. That makes the M5 model the better option for new buyers who want the most longevity and headroom, but the M2 model remains better value for those entering the platform for the first time or waiting for a larger generational leap.Related Roundup: Apple Vision ProBuyer's Guide: Vision Pro (Buy Now)Related Forum: Apple Vision ProThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

This macOS Tahoe 26.1 setting will eliminate embarrassing Clipboard mishaps Macworld
When Apple released macOS Tahoe about two months ago, one of its marquee features was an enhanced Spotlight that finally allowed for access to the Clipboard history. When you open Spotlight (Command+space bar, or click the Spotlight icon in the menu bar) and then press Command+4 at the Spotlight window, you will see a stack of your Clipboard’s history. It’s a helpful feature, but it can also pose a privacy risk.
With the recently released macOS Tahoe 26.1 update, Apple has taken steps to reduce the risk. Apple has added a new “Results from Clipboard” toggle, allowing users to turn off Clipboard history. You can also set a time limit for the Clipboard history to 30 minutes, 8 hours, or 7 days, after which it is cleared. And there’s a button to Clear Clipboard History immediately.
To access this new setting, go to Settings > Spotlight, and then scroll down to the bottom of the main window until you see the Results from Clipboard section.

Amazon Music Now Features Alexa+ The Amazon Music app now integrates with Alexa+ on iOS and Android, allowing users to navigate its extensive catalog via intuitive conversation.
Amazon today announced that Alexa+, its upgraded AI-driven assistant, is now available in beta to members of the Alexa+ Early Access program using the Amazon Music app across all subscription tiers. The assistant introduces new ways for users to discover, organize, and engage with music through natural conversation rather than traditional commands. According to Amazon, Alexa+ enables listeners to interact with music as if speaking to "a knowledgeable friend," discussing genres, influences, and song meanings in depth.
The feature appears as a new "a" button in the lower right corner of the Amazon Music interface, allowing users to activate Alexa+ through voice queries. Alexa+ can respond to both general and highly specific prompts. Users can ask questions such as "What's the song that plays in the opening credits of The Sopranos?" or "Which song has the lyrics, 'Catch me or I'll go Houdini'?"
The assistant can also generate playlists tailored to complex requests, including "Create a playlist for driving along the Pacific Coast Highway at sunset" or "Make a playlist of relaxing songs for my dog but with R&B vibes that soothe anxiety." Beyond basic song identification, Alexa+ is capable of explaining the meaning of lyrics, exploring artist discographies, identifying sample origins, and tracing genre evolution across decades and regions.
Amazon says that listeners who engaged with Alexa+ explored three times more music and listened to nearly 70% more tracks than those using the original version of Alexa. Alexa+ was first announced earlier in 2025. It can respond to personalized requests, manage routines, summarize topics, and understand context in extended dialogue.
Once the beta period ends, Alexa+ will be available to Amazon Prime members at no additional cost, while non-Prime users will be able to subscribe for $19.99 per month. The current rollout marks one of the first major integrations of a generative AI assistant within a mainstream streaming service.Tags: Alexa, Amazon Music UnlimitedThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Next Steps for Apps Distributed in Texas Today we’re releasing more details about the tools we’re making available for developers to help them meet their compliance obligations under upcoming U.S. state laws, including SB2420 in Texas. While we’re providing these tools to help developers navigate the evolving legal landscape, Apple remains concerned about the potential implications of laws like SB2420 in Texas. Specifically, we worry they could undermine the privacy of all users by requiring the collection of sensitive personal information just to download an app – even those that simply provide weather forecasts or sports scores.Starting January 1, 2026, new Apple Accounts in Texas will be subject to new requirements. This includes age assurance and parent or guardian consent on behalf of minors under the age of 18 for downloads, purchases, and significant changes associated with an app. Parents or guardians will also be able to revoke their consent for any app they previously approved. To meet their obligations under the law, developers may need to adopt new capabilities to receive age category information, trigger consent for a significant change, and learn when a parent or guardian revokes their approval for a child or teen to use their app. Developers can use the following APIs available in the beta versions of iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2 to help them meet their obligations. Sandbox testing is also available to help test the user experience when implementing these APIs to comply with Texas state law.Age category informationDevelopers can use the updated Declared Age Range API to obtain a user’s age category, which is defined by Texas state law as under 13, 13-15, 16-17, or over 18. Age categories for users with new Apple Accounts in Texas as of January 1, 2026, will be shared with a developer’s app when they request it. The API will also return a signal from the user’s device about the method of age assurance, such as credit card or government ID, and if consent is required when there’s a significant change to an app.Obtaining consent for significant changesCertain types of changes to an app may be considered significant changes under age assurance laws, such as Texas SB2420. It’s the developer’s responsibility to determine when there’s a significant change to their app. When a developer determines they have made a significant change to their app, they’ll need to use the Significant Change API under the PermissionKit framework to ask the parent or guardian to provide consent for the child or teen to continue using the app or new feature within the app. When the API is called, the child or teen user will see a system dialog to request parental consent and developers can restrict access until consent is obtained.Texas state law considers a change in the age rating of an app to be a significant change, and developers should keep their age rating selections current in App Store Connect. When a developer updates their app’s age rating, the rating is updated on all user devices once the version is live. Developers can use a new property type in StoreKit to automatically check when their app’s age rating has changed on a user’s device and then use the Significant Change API to request parental consent.App consent revocationA parent or guardian in Texas can withdraw consent for any app, which will block launching of the app on the child or teen’s device. The App Store will provide a server notification that developers can configure to receive notifications that the parent or guardian has withdrawn consent for their app on a child or teen’s device.Sandbox testingSandbox testing is now available for the Declared Age Range API and Significant Change API in the beta versions of iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2.Next steps
Review documentation and implement the following:
Declared Age Range API
Significant Change API under PermissionKit
New age rating property type in StoreKit

Use Apple’s sandbox testing environment to validate that the APIs have been implemented correctly.
When the Release Candidates of iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2 become available, submit your apps to App Store Connect so users can update their devices with your updated apps with the customer releases.

Do More With Spotlight in macOS Tahoe In macOS Tahoe 26, Apple gave Spotlight a major update with a visual overhaul, clipboard access, and Actions for performing tasks within apps directly from the search bar.
There's quite a lot of hidden potential in Spotlight's new manifestation. Below, we've put together a cheat sheet of Spotlight functionality to help you make the most of it.
Getting Started With Spotlight
You can open Spotlight on your Mac at any time by pressing Command + Space Bar or by clicking the magnifying glass icon in the menu bar.
The main Spotlight overlay remains the quickest way to find almost anything on your Mac. Type a keyword to surface apps, documents, emails, contacts, dictionary definitions, or web results. You can drag a file from search results to the desktop or a Finder window, or you can open it by double-clicking it or selecting it and pressing Return.
You can also still access the extra functionality that Apple has added over time, like input calculations and get conversions, find flight information with a flight number, or get an up-to-date weather forecast.
If you move your pointer when Spotlight is open, you'll see four icons appear to the right of the interface: they are Apps, Files, Actions, and Clipboard. You can click to open these browse modes or use keyboard shortcuts to open straight into them and switch between them:
Command + Space Bar + 1: Apps
Command + Space Bar + 2: Files
Command + Space Bar + 3: Actions
Command + Space Bar + 4: Clipboard
We'll get to these browse modes later on, but first let's look at some Spotlight-wide filter functions.
Filter Search With Categories
You can narrow your Spotlight results by selecting a category that appears beneath the search field. Press Command + Space Bar to open Spotlight, then start typing. As you search, dynamic categories such as Screenshots, System Settings, or Folders will appear – click any of them to instantly filter your results.
Filter Search by Location
If you're searching for a file, you can filter it based on where the file is stored – like iCloud Drive, for example. Type "iCloud Drive," press the Tab key, and then type the name of the file before pressing Return.
Reveal File Location
If the file you're looking for is highlighted in the results, hold the Command key to reveal its location path beneath the name. You can also double-click the location to go straight to it in Finder.
Filter Search by App or Kind of Item
You can specify the type of items you're searching for, such as apps, folders or PDFs. To search by app, type the app name (e.g. Notes, Calendar) then press the Tab key. Now type a term to search only within that app.
To search by kind, enter "/" followed by the type of item or app. For example, to narrow search results to PDFs, enter "/PDF" and press Return, then type your search terms.
Use Keywords
Apple has also implemented keywords for specifying different kinds of item. In the Spotlight search field, add the text "kind:[type of item]" to the beginning of your search. For example, to search for photos of Edinburgh, type "kind:images Edinburgh."
Spotlight supports the following keywords for searching for different types of item:
table.comparison td {
vertical-align: top; /* text starts at top of cell */
padding: 8px 12px;
}
table.comparison ul.keyword-list {
list-style: none; /* no bullets */
margin: 0; /* no extra space above/below */
padding: 0;
}

margin: 0; /* tight stacking */
line-height: 1.35; /* readable, compact */
}

You can also refine your searches using specific keywords such as from, to, author, with, by, tag, title, name, keyword, and contains. To use one, type the keyword followed by a colon, then your search term – for example, author:Tim or title:Edinburgh.
Launching Apps
With Launchpad gone, you can use Spotlight's Apps browse mode to launch apps instead (Command + Space Bar + 1). The mode also surfaces iPhone apps when iPhone Mirroring is active, so you can access them directly from your desktop.
If you prefer, you can hide iPhone apps from this view via the browse mode's options button (three encircled dots). You can also change from Grid to List view from this menu. Unfortunately, you can't uninstall apps or rearrange them in Spotlight like you could do in Launchpad.
Actions
Actions in Spotlight let you do things with apps without having to open those apps. You can send emails, create shortcuts for features in apps, set timers, create Calendar events, make reminders, and much more, plus there's integration with the Shortcuts app to take things even further.
For example, if you want to send a message, press Command + Space Bar + 3 to open Spotlight Actions, then select the Send Message action and hit Return. Type your message, hit Tab, type the name of the recipient, then select their contact and hit Enter again. The steps depend which action you choose to run, but it's the same basic process.
Here are just some actions that you can use:
Add File to Note: Quickly adds a file on your computer to a note in the Notes app.
Change Case: Changes the case of copied text.
Start FaceTime call: Makes a FaceTime call – audio or video – to the person of your choice.
Random Number: Picks a random number when given a minimum and maximum.
Recognise Music: Names the currently playing song.
Remove Image Background: Removes the background from a named image.
Send Email: Sends an email message to a recipient of your choice.
Translate Text: Translates selected text from a detected language to the language of your choice.
Quick Keys
You can use Spotlight Actions to do all kinds of things without opening an app, but there are also quick access phrases you can assign to launch tasks quickly, like "ch" for bringing up ChatGPT. Simply click the "Add quick keys" button whenever you see it in search results.
If you need to, you can reset assigned quick keys to their defaults by clicking Reset Quick Keys in System Settings ➝ Spotlight.
Clipboard Mode
Clipboard mode (Space Bar + Command + 4) is one of the most practical additions to macOS Tahoe. It keeps a searchable history of copied text, links, images, and files, even syncing across your devices through Universal Clipboard. You can copy or paste items directly from this view, or clear history entirely for privacy. You can see your entire history for the day, but it is limited to the last eight hours by default. In macOS 26.1, you can change how long clipboard history is kept in System Settings ➝ Spotlight.
You can copy from the clipboard search results by clicking the Copy icon, then paste the item anywhere by pressing Command + V. To erase the clipboard history, click the options button (three encircled dots), then choose Clear History.
Spotlight History
If you open Spotlight (Command + Space Bar) and start pressing the up arrow key, you can see a history of your past searches.
Customize Spotlight Settings
Head to System Settings ➝ Spotlight to fine-tune what appears in results. You can exclude apps and private folders, reset Quick Keys, and delete search history. New in macOS Tahoe 26.1, you can also now adjust how long clipboard history is retained (30 minutes, 8 hours, 7 days), or disable clipboard history completely. The options generally give you greater control over privacy and performance while keeping Spotlight uncluttered. This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
Apple Expands Spotlight Clipboard Settings in macOS Tahoe 26.1 Apple quietly added a small but notable enhancement to Spotlight in macOS Tahoe 26.1, which was released on Monday. The update introduces new clipboard history controls for Spotlight, allowing users to decide how long copied items remain accessible in search results.
Previously, Spotlight could optionally retain clipboard contents for up to eight hours, but the latest update expands that flexibility with three options – 30 minutes, 8 hours, or 7 days. There's also a new "Clear Clipboard History" button in System Settings ➝ Spotlight, giving users the ability to manually wipe stored clipboard data without having to wipe Spotlight search history wholesale.
The changes should be welcomed by anyone wanting finer control over how long potentially sensitive information is retained by Spotlight, and it puts the feature more on par with third-party clipboard management apps. Apple did not mention the change in its macOS 26.1 release notes, suggesting it may be just one of several under-the-radar refinements to macOS Tahoe 26. Statik State Power Bank (5K) review: Semi Solid State aces battery tests Macworld
At a glanceExpert's Rating
Pros
Battery capacity winner
Safety and durability
Cons
7.5W rather than 15W wireless charging
Our Verdict
The Statik State 5K Power Bank may not be the smallest power bank we’ve tested, but it’s pretty tiny all the same, and it is the overall winner in our 5K power bank recharging tests. Add in the safety, durability and longer lifespan, and if you don’t mind the longer charging time you’ll be making a fine choice.

Portable power banks have been getting smaller, but most are still built using conventional lithium-ion batteries. Newer more durable semi-solid-state batteries—using a partially solid rather than liquid electrolyte—can provide higher energy density and improved safety by reducing the risk of overheating, as well as being charged faster. They should also lose a lot less of their energy the more charge cycles they are put through, making them last longer than standard power banks.
This type of battery is often used in devices such as drones and electric vehicles, and they are now appearing in portable power banks—and in particular magnetic power banks that can clamp to the back of an iPhone and immediately start charging. Being less flammable than the liquid electrolytes there may be a day when airlines insist any power bank taken onboard needs to be semi or solid state.
Another plus in their favor: semi-solid state versions are less affected by cold temperatures compared to traditional batteries. And nail tests show that they should also be better at withstanding penetration, without catching fire or exploding. Note: we didn’t try this ourselves!
Solid design
Semi-solid-state power banks can be smaller than conventional battery packs as they can pack higher capacity into a smaller, lighter body. The Statik State Power Bank, however, isn’t the smallest 5000mAh (5K) power bank we’ve tested.
It measures inches 4.1 x 2.8 x 0.45 inches (10.4 x 7 x 1.15cm) and weighs 5oz (141g). That’s about average for a 5000mAh power bank—a little slimmer than most but not as thin as the Anker Nano 5K MagGo Slim (0.34 inches, 0.86cm).
Simon Jary
Performance
It did, however, outperform all the other same-sized 5K power banks in our iPhone battery recharge tests.
We allow our iPhone 16 Pro to run to zero and then we attach the magnetic wireless power bank to do its best at recharging the faded phone.
Simon Jary
On first try, the Statik State scored 84% in this test and all the way to 88% in the second test—meaning it ran out of juice as the iPhone reached that percentage of battery life. Our previous champion 5K power bank was the Kuxiu S2, the first semi-solid state battery pack we tested. It scored 79%.
For non-solid-state power banks, hats off to the conventional battery Belkin BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Qi2 Power Bank that matched this 79%, which is also available in a range of natty colors to add to its charms. Both the ESR Qi2 MagSlim and Anker Nano MagGo Slim scored a very respectable 77%, but most 5K power banks averaged around 70%.
For even more battery power you’ll need to up your budget and the size of your pocket to a 10K power bank, which score between 145% and 190%.
There’s also a spare USB-C port on the Statik State that can be used to charge at 20W. That might be useful as the Statik State is merely MagSafe Compatible and so wirelessly charges at a humdrum 7.5W compared to MagSafe/Qi2 power banks that wirelessly output 15W or 25W with the very latest battery packs. If you’re in a particular hurry, look to those power banks—particularly the two Qi2 models mentioned above. See all the test results in our roundup of the best magnetic power banks.
Simon Jary
Price
The Statik State 5K Power Bank is priced at $59.99, which is close to the cost of the similar Anker Nano MagGo Slim that is thinner but trailed the Statik State by 5-10% in our recharging tests. The Anker, though, is faster at 15W compared to Statik’s 7.5W.
If you value slimness over raw performance, choose the Anker, which to be fair isn’t ridiculously far off the Statik in our tests. If it’s about having as much power as possible in your pocket, the Statik is a winner.
Should you buy the Statik State 5K Power Bank?
For durability and capacity plus all-important safety, it’s likely that semi-solid-state power banks represent the next stage in charging technology not just for travellers but all of us on the move.
The Statik State 5K Power Bank may not be the smallest power bank we’ve tested but it’s pretty tiny all the same, and it is the overall winner in our 5K magnetic power bank recharging tests. Add in the safety, durability and longer lifespan, and if you don’t mind the longer charging time you’ll be making a fine choice.

Apple updates three icons with Liquid Glass to prove it still matters Macworld
Yesterday’s public rollout of the iOS 26.1 software update added an easily accessible toggle to tone down the transparency effects of Liquid Glass, the fancy-looking but divisive interface style introduced across Apple’s product ecosystem this summer. In my latest column, I suggested this move sounded like Liquid Glass’s death knell. But Apple isn’t giving up on the design language just yet.
As MacRumors reports, GarageBand, Photomator, and Pixelmator Pro were all given new Liquid Glass-compatible icons for iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe, on the same day as the toggle was being added elsewhere. The site adds that similarly updated icons are coming to the App Store, iMovie, Keynote, Numbers, and Pages, but aren’t ready quite yet.
When we say that an app icon is compatible with Liquid Glass, we really mean two things. One relates to the design language’s notorious transparency effects. If you tap and hold on any free space on your iPhone screen, then select Edit > Customize, you can choose for all icons to be either Default, Dark, Clear, or Tinted. The latter two options will cause all compatible icons to be partially see-through with Liquid Glass’s characteristic glassy effect, but for the time being, many third-party apps and even quite a few Apple apps don’t deliver the effect properly. This week’s new icons are designed to do so.
The second is a more subjective trend away from the abstract iconography that became the standard with the launch of iOS 7 more than a decade ago, and back towards more realistic imagery. The new GuitarBand icon, for example, shows a realistic picture of a guitar. You can see the updated iconography on the App Store.

Ultimately it’s hardly surprising that Apple is plowing ahead with its Liquid Glass update plans. For one thing, as I explained in my column, the company was never going to abandon the design language all at once, having put so much marketing weight behind it; for now, the plan is merely to provide the option to tone down the transparency effects, while otherwise maintaining a “business as usual” approach. For another, work on these icons would have begun many weeks and potentially some months ago. Apple is a large cruise liner and it takes time to turn things around.
Affiliate partner payouts from IAP subs? Relatively new to development for native platforms. It seems that trying to sidestep IAPs may not be a good idea from a conversion POV, which means that it does not make sense to use Stripe as my processor for iOS apps. Now, if my business relies heavily on affiliate strategies, including monthly payouts to partners […]

With a 27,650mAh battery capacity the EcoFlow RAPID Pro Power Bank (300W) is as powerful as you can get without stopping you at the airport security gates. As such it is one of the most powerful laptop power banks that you can carry with your MacBook, and it comes with a built-in USB-C cable that can power a laptop at up to 140W.
Its built-in USB-C cable can output power at up to 140W so can fast-charge even the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Power bank tech specs
Battery capacity: 99.54Wh
Fastest Power Output: 140W
Total Power Output: 300W
Power Input: 280W
USB ports: 2x USB-C (140W PD 3.1); 2x USB-C (65W PD 3.0)
Dimensions: 6.5 x 2.2 x 2.3 inches (16.6 x 5.5 x 5.8cm)
Weight: 24.7oz (699g)
There are three USB-C ports at the top of the power bank and a retractable 60cm USB-C cable nested at the bottom. Two USB-C ports can be used to power at 140W, and the other two at 65W each. Simple math tells you that—while the power bank’s maximum output is 300W, which is at the top of the laptop power bank scale—it can’t handle all of these outputs at the same time as that would add up to 410W.
It can recharge up to four devices at the same time, although—as with all charging devices—you have to stay within the 300W maximum.
With two laptops connected its generous 300W total output will allow the two 140W ports (one being the built-in cable) to fast-charge two 16-inch MacBook Pros at full pelt.
Simon Jary
With three devices it can output at 140W, 95W and 65W—enough for three MacBooks at the same time. And using all four charging points, still allows for two MacBooks at 140W. with the remaining two USB-C ports sharing 20W.
In comparison, the similar Anker Prime 27650mAh Power Bank with a maximum total output of 250W can’t fast-charge two 16-inch MacBook Pros at the same time—one is pegged back at 100W. For more alternatives, keep reading.
An iPhone could be charged four and a half times over if using all the power bank’s battery capacity. In our tests, we fully recharged an iPhone 15 Pro in about 1 hour 40 minutes, leaving 85% power left in the power bank.

Performance
The top-end 16-inch MacBook Pro has a battery rated at around the same watt hours (99.6Wh) as this power bank (99.54Wh). That doesn’t always mean it can 100% recharge the laptop as in reality some power is lost in the transfer, but it should manage around 70-75%, and anything over 100Wh won’t be allowed on a commercial flight anyway according to TSA, CAA and EASA airline limits.
If you don’t require a power bank for in-flight recharging, but still want one for the home or office—maybe on long car or train journeys or out camping—consider a larger capacity laptop power bank such as the $169 Ugreen 48000mAh Portable Charger Power Bank.
EcoFlow claims that you can charge a 49.9Wh MacBook Air 1.3 times. We tested a 14-inch MacBook Pro (69.6Wh), and it managed nearly 1.2 (total 117%)—which leads us to think it could do more than 1.3 with the smaller Air’s battery, although we haven’t tested this.
See our list of MacBook battery capacities for more details on the whole range of Apple laptops.
While it’s especially capable in terms of battery capacity for charging laptops, the EcoFlow RAPID Pro can charge other devices, such as an iPad and iPhone, your AirPods, or your Apple Watch.
Eventually, of course, the RAPID Pro power bank will run out of juice itself.
You can recharge the power bank itself to 80% in around 40 minutes using one of the 140W USB-C ports at the same time. You can use the two 140W outputs together for a combined 280W input and so get the power bank to 80% in half an hour.
EcoFlow also claims its accessory EcoFlow RAPID Pro Desktop Charger can charge the power bank at 320W to the same 80% mark in around 20 minutes. This also features two USB-C ports (one at 100W, the other 30W) and a 22.5W USB-A port. However, at the time of our review, this is not available in either the U.S. or U.K.
There’s also an EcoFlow Rapid Pro X Magnetic Block Apple Watch Charger that can charge the power bank via the pogo pins at its base, but this appears to be only an at-purchase add-on for the RAPID Pro X version of the power bank that is more customizable, but lacks the built-in cable found on the standard model reviewed here. The X version comes uses the built-in cable on the Magnetic Block. It’s all quite confusing. As such, we recommend this plain EcoFlow RAPID Pro Power Bank, and not the fancy X version.

Laptop power bank portability
The EcoFlow RAPID Pro 27650mAh Power Bank is about the same size in height (6.5 inches) as the iPhone 17 Pro Max is long (6.43 inches). It’s around 5.5 inches wide and deep, and is easily carried in one hand. It weighs just under 25oz (0.7kg).
It’s compact but not pocketable, unless you are wearing a long coat with deep pockets, but it will fit easily in a MacBook backpack.
The design is ultra slick with chrome buttons to control the display. The cable is nicely hidden from site near the base when not in use.
Simon Jary
Power bank smarts
There’s a color digital display on the front of the power bank (pictured above) that shows the remaining battery capacity, plus information such as its temperature (don’t let any battery get too hot or cold if you want to keep it at peak fitness), cycle count (how many times it has been charged itself: EcoFlow claims that the power bank retains over 80% of its battery capacity after 300 charge cycles) plus the port and wattage being used while charging.
If not used for an extended period, it is recommended to recharge the power bank at least once every three months.
As well as that charging data, the power bank can be controlled by the EcoFlow app, which gives real-time charging stats (remaining charging time and input and output power indicators) and can be optimized to help extend the battery life of the devices being charged as well as its own. The EcoFlow app is similar to Anker power bank app, except that the rival app includes a handy Find Device feature to activate a sound alert from the power bank when you need to locate it.

Price and alternatives
EcoFlow RAPID Pro Power Bank (27,650mAh, 300W, Built-in Cable) is priced at $219.99 / £169.99 / CA$249.99 / €169,99. At the time of writing there were direct discounts. Check our real-time price comparison at the top and bottom of this article for the best prices in your region, and take a look at Amazon or Amazon UK.
EcoFlow also sells a 20000mAh model for $179.99 / £129.99 that offers a smaller (14.5cm height) and lower 230W max output battery. It’s not too much smaller and has the same number of USB ports, including the built-in cable. It’s 5oz (135g) lighter than the 27K model.
With 100W USB-C it might suit MacBook Air or 14-inch MacBook Pro owners. For the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the 140W (PD 3.1) speedy 27,650mAh power bank makes more sense.
Alternative high capacity (25K and over) laptop power banks can be found in our roundup of the best power banks for MacBook. These include the Anker Prime 27K (250W) Power Bank and a new model from the same company, the Anker Prime 26K (300W) Power Bank that currently is in testing for review. Another 25K Anker Power Bank (165W) has two built-in cables but a slightly lower capacity and maximum power output.
There’s the adventurous Sandberg Survivor Power Bank that equals the 27K EcoFlow RAPID Pro but has a lesser 65W USB-C port. We’d take that model to a desert but the EcoFlow to a beach hotel.
The confusingly named Cuktech 20 Power Bank 25000mAh (210W) is much cheaper (MSRP: $123), but again a lower capacity and total output, although it too can reach 140W from one of its ports.
Choosing between all of these power banks as the portable charging companion for your MacBook could be a complicated game of price and power over convenience and intelligent features.
What makes the EcoFlow RAPID Pro stand out are its top 27K capacity, 140W fast-charging, 300W total output and built-in cable. None of the others can match all four of these attributes.
Should I buy the EcoFlow RAPID Pro Power Bank (27,650mAh, 300W)?
The good-looking EcoFlow RAPID Pro Power Bank is a high-capacity laptop charging power bank that boasts not just a lot of juice and fast-charging speeds, but a huge simultaneous output and a handy built-in USB-C cable.
The 27,650mAh model is particularly suited to owners of the 16-inch MacBook Pro that can take advantage of its 140W charging and full battery capacity, but all owners of hungry MacBooks will delight in its recharge capacity and speed.

Apple might actually be doomed if Siri misses another deadline Macworld
Remember enhanced Siri? Apple first announced it in June of 2024 and planned to deliver it in an update to iOS 18, but it never did.
You might be forgiven for thinking now that it will never get here. Even for wondering whether or not it’s worth carrying on and whether anything ever means anything anymore in this crazy, mixed-up world. If we cannot trust the word of a $4 trillion company, what can we trust? Our friends and loved ones? Have you seen those people? Uncle Jed insists that stew is a fifth state of matter that exists between solids and liquids.
At least now we know why Aunt Jan drinks so much.
At any rate, fear not, comrades! All is well, because Chairman Cook announced during Thursday’s conference call with analysts that enhanced Siri is still theoretically supposedly coming in 2026 to an iPhone near you! Huzzah!
We’re also excited for a more personalized Siri. We’re making good progress on it, and as we’ve shared, we expect to release it next year.
Apple CEO TIm Cook
What a heartwarming and tepidly reassuring statement in these uncertain times. The Macalope, for one, will definitely be toying with the idea of maybe possibly thinking about getting excited about it for a second or two.
To meet this deadline, Apple might be getting by with a little help from its friends, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The new version of Siri could have some help from Google’s Gemini.
Fortunately for Apple product users and fans of privacy, Apple seems to be getting a bespoke version of Gemini rather than funneling requests to Google. So, sort of like eWorld was a licensed version of AOL!
Eeeeeeee.

The Macalope really hopes that’s a bad example, and it certainly is from the perspective of user base because enhanced Siri will instantly have millions of users while eWorld never gained much traction. But it is likely that enhancements will hit Google Gemini first and Siri second, much as happened with eWorld.
Sure, there are probably more recent examples than one that occurred before both Tom Holland and Zendaya were even born, that’s just the first thing that occurred to the Macalope, okay?
Gurman adds:
…there’s no guarantee users will embrace it, that it will work seamlessly or that it can undo years of damage to the Siri brand.
Good expectation setting. Thanks for that.
“I just want to be clear, this could suck, OK?” We got it, Mark. We’ve used Siri before, so… you know.
While Cook wanted to assure analysts and investors that enhanced Siri was on track, he also admitted that the company is always on the lookout for even more help. You know, just in case.
We also continually surveil the market on M&A and are open to pursuing M&A if we think that it will advance our roadmap.
Indeed, Apple has lost so many AI executives to Meta and other companies that it might have to acquire an AI company just to get some butts back in the seats. That department probably can’t even field a company softball team.
“Tell the Time Machine team we have to forfeit again.”
A thing the Macalope has not understood throughout this is that Apple is famously the company that is behind on AI. Why would Meta want to poach executives from a company that failed to deliver? Makes no sense.
Whatever, that’s Meta’s problem.
An enhanced, more conversational Siri has to be high on the list of user requests. While AI in general is a real mixed bag — Google included — and people are unlikely to stop buying iPhones over it, Apple has promised to deliver not once but twice.
Miss it again and the company might get a rep.

Check out this $24 credit card-sized tracker that plays nice with Apple’s Find My Macworld
TL;DR: A rechargeable, Find My-compatible tracker the size of a credit card — the MagTag is on sale for $23.99 and helps you stop losing your essentials.
Honestly, I’ve tried using AirTags to keep tabs on my stuff, but my wallet was too bulky with it. That’s why I was pretty excited to find the MagTag, a sleek AirTag dupe, especially now that it’s on sale for only $23.99 (MSRP $59.99). If you’re the kind of person who misplaces your wallet, passport, or bag more often than you’d like to admit, this thing is a game-changer.
It’s just 1.5mm thick at about the size of a credit card, and fits easily into tight spaces without that annoying bulge. It works seamlessly with Apple’s Find My network, so you don’t need to download another app or jump through setup hoops. I just added it in the Find My app like I would with any Apple device.
There’s a left-behind alert feature that’s already saved me from walking out the door without my wallet. You can also ping the tracker to make it beep if it’s hiding under a couch cushion or buried in a bag. It’s rechargeable via Qi wireless charging, lasts up to five months on a single charge, and is rated IP68-waterproof, so it’s built to last.
If you’re deep into the Apple ecosystem and want a low-profile way to keep track of your essentials, this is a solid pickup — especially at this price.
Join me and quit misplacing your essentials. Grab one of these credit card-sized MagTag trackers for just $23.99 while supplies last.
