iOS 26.2 Will Bring 10+ New Features to Your iPhone Apple is testing iOS 26.2, a new version of iOS 26 that’s going to come out right around mid-December. iOS 26.2 is going to bring big changes to iPhone users in Japan, but there are also quite a few feature tweaks available for everyone. We’ve rounded up all of the new features your iPhone will get in iOS 26.2.
Reminders
In the Reminders app, there’s a new option to have an alarm go off when a reminder is due. Setting up an alarm can be done by toggling on the “Urgent” option when creating a reminder.
When a Reminder alarm activates, it displays a snooze option or a slide to stop option. If you snooze it, it will show a countdown on the Lock Screen that includes an option to complete the reminder or reschedule it. Apple distinguishes Reminders alarms from standard alarms with a new blue color.
Apple provides a splash screen letting users know about the feature, plus a small banner that shows up when you go to add a new entry in the Reminders app after updating to iOS 26.2.
Lock Screen
There is a Liquid Glass slider on the Lock Screen that lets you customize the appearance of the clock. When using the “Glass” option, you can use the slider to make the time look almost entirely clear, or give it a more frosted look.
There continues to be a separate Solid toggle that turns off the Liquid Glass appearance for the clock entirely if you want to opt for a much more opaque design, and you can also still use the color options for the clock.
Liquid Glass Settings
When using the new Liquid Glass “Tinted” option that reduces transparency, there’s a warning that the Tinted option cannot be used in tandem with the Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast Accessibility settings.
Turning on Tinted mode is able to turn off Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast automatically. In the prior betas, there was no option to turn on Tinted mode without turning off these features manually.
AirDrop
Apple added new AirDrop functionality, providing a way for two people to share files temporarily without having to add one another as contacts.
iOS 26.2 includes an option to generate a one-time AirDrop code, which can then be shared with someone who is not in your contacts list. The code allows file exchanges over AirDrop for a 30-day period.
People you have shared a one-time code with can be managed by opening up the Settings app, selecting the General section, choosing AirDrop, and tapping on “Manage Known AirDrop Contacts.”
Apple Music
Apple Music now supports offline lyrics, so you can see a song’s lyrics when not connected to Wi-Fi or cellular.
Sleep Score
With iOS 26.2 and watchOS 26.2, Apple has adjusted the ranges for the Sleep Score feature that it introduced earlier this year. The new Sleep Score numbers better match how people might be feeling after a night of sleep.
These are the new scores:
Very Low - 0–40 (previously 0–29)
Low - 41–60 (previously 30–49)
OK - 61–80 (previously 50–69)
High - 81–95 (previously 70–89)
Very High - 96–100 (previously 90–100)
The “Very High” rank used to be “Excellent,” but Apple changed the name to be more in line with the other labels.
Sleep Scores are available on all Apple Watch models compatible with watchOS 26.2 and can be found in the Health app on the iPhone. Apple designed Sleep Score to provide an overall sense of sleep patterns, so users can identify habits that might impact their sleep.
Sleep Score takes into account sleep duration, bedtime, and interruptions to assign a nightly score that represents sleep quality. Duration is worth 50 points, bedtime is worth 30, and interruptions (times woken up in the night) are worth 20, for a total of 100 possible points each night.
Podcasts
The Podcasts app adds support for three new features, including automatically created chapters, options to see mentions of other podcasts from the transcript and the player, and access to links mentioned in a podcast on the episode page.
Passwords
In the Settings section of the Passwords app, there’s an option to manage websites where passwords are not saved when signing in.
AirPods Live Translation for EU
iOS 26.2 expands AirPods Live Translation to the European Union. Apple had to delay the feature in the EU to complete the engineering work needed to comply with the requirements of the Digital Markets Act.
AirPods Live Translation works with the AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods 4 with ANC. It is available in English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional Mandarin), Japanese, and Korean at the current time.
Freeform
The Freeform app now supports Tables.
Weather
There is code suggesting that the Weather app now supports relative time for alerts like “next Friday,” or “next Tuesday” in reference to upcoming rain or weather conditions.
Apple News
Apple updated the design of Apple News, adding quick access top buttons for categories like sports, puzzles, politics, business, and food.
There’s also a dedicated tab for Following, which has been decoupled from the search interface.
Flash for Alerts
The Flash for Alerts option in the Accessibility section of the Settings app now allows users to have the screen flash. Previously, this setting was limited to the LED on the back of the iPhone.
Users can swap to the screen flash or have both flash at the same time when notifications come in.
Enhanced Safety Alerts
In the Notifications section of the Settings app, there’s an Enhanced Safety Alerts section for managing earthquake alerts, imminent threat alerts, and activating improved alert delivery, a feature that uses location to improve the reliability of alerts.
Measure App
Apple’s Measure app now features a Liquid Glass design for the level, with two Liquid Glass bubbles instead of white circles.
Games App
There’s now an option to sort games in the Games app Library by size, in addition to Name and Recent.
The Games app also supports navigation with a controller and real-time updates to challenge scores during gameplay.
CarPlay
The CarPlay now app supports disabling pinned messages in the Messages app for drivers who prefer the classic Messages view that was available before iOS 26.2.
Menu Animations
For pop-out menus that expand from a corner button, there’s a quicker, bouncier animation that looks like the animation that Apple showed off at WWDC.

Privacy
When you access your Apple Account for the first time after installing iOS 26.2, you’ll see an alert letting you know that Apple’s privacy information for Apple Accounts has been updated to better explain how personal information is collected and used by Apple.
iPhone Changes in Japan
Siri Replacement
Apple is laying the groundwork for a new option that will let iPhone users in Japan choose a different default voice assistant. A press and hold gesture on the Side Button only activates Siri in the current version of iOS 26, but there are multiple references to new Side Button behavior in the beta.
iPhone users in Japan will be able to select a new voice-based conversation app to activate with the Side Button, allowing alternative assistants like Gemini or Alexa to be used on the iPhone. Developer documentation confirms that it will only be available for Japanese Apple Accounts owned by people living in Japan.
Search Engine Choice
After installing iOS 26.2, iPhone users in Japan will be prompted to select a preferred search engine. Options include Bing, Google, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo Japan, or Ecosia, the same options available globally in the Safari settings. In most other countries, Google is the default search engine and there is no prompt to choose a different option when the iPhone first starts up.
While iPhone users outside of Japan can choose one of the other options, doing so requires going into the Safari section of the Settings app to make a change.
Third Party App Stores
iOS 26.2 will allow iPhone users in Japan to install alternative app marketplaces, similar to the European Union.
Texas App Store Changes
With iOS 26.2, Apple is adding tools for developers that will help them comply with the App Store Accountability Act that goes into effect in Texas in 2026. Apple users in Texas will need to confirm whether they are 18 years or older when creating an Apple Account, and parents will need to provide consent for their children’s App Store downloads and in-app transactions.
Apple will share user age range information with developers, and developers will need to implement systems for notifying parents about significant app changes and allowing parents to revoke a child’s access to an app at any time.
Bonus: iPadOS 26.2 Multitasking
In the iPadOS 26.2, Apple is expanding on the updated multitasking that it introduced in iPadOS 26.1. There’s now a option to drag and drop apps from the App Library, Dock, and Spotlight into Slide Over and tiled views, restoring some functionality that was removed in the iPadOS 18 to iPadOS 26 transition.
Compatibility
iOS 26.2 is available on all iPhones that support iOS 26.

Best Apple Watch for seniors 2025: A guide to choosing the right model Macworld
The Apple Watch may be advertised as a device for virile young twenty-somethings who are always out running or climbing mountains, but that’s not really the profile of most people who wear them. At least, not at the Macworld offices. But, they are fantastic devices if you want to keep an eye on your health, be sure not to miss notifications on your iPhone and in the case of the elderly they can also be something of a lifesaver. Do they need an iPhone?
It might seem a basic question, but the Apple Watch isn’t that useful if you give it to someone with an Android phone or even a classic non-smartphone. They only work with iPhones and that’s very likely the way it will stay. So, the most important first question to answer is whether the person in question has an iPhone or not. If they do, great, otherwise we’d recommend looking for one of the alternative smartwatches on our sister-site Tech Advisor’s best smartwatch or best fitness tracker roundups.
That being said, you can set up an Apple Watch on your iPhone and then give it to your elderly relative or friend. The iPhone is required for Apple Watch setup and any subsequent software updates, but beyond that it doesn’t matter. Once the Apple Watch is set up and they are wearing it, you can then use the health monitoring features to ensure they’re safe. Here’s a rundown of all the things an Apple Watch can do without an iPhone. If you do this, you’ll want to ensure the Apple Watch isn’t blasting your relative with all the notifications from your iPhone.

Why is an Apple Watch good for older people?
Health monitoring: Aside from the useful ability of not having to keep getting your iPhone out of a bag or pocket when messages come in, an Apple Watch can also be very useful in terms of monitoring the current health of an older person. Some models come with an ECG sensor, which can detect a specific kind of heart problem or variances that might suggest conditions such as atrial fibrillation. Some have SpO2 sensors to measure blood oxygen levels, again this can warn if the wearer is getting into difficulties, potentially due to respiratory problems.
In 2025 Apple added the ability to monitor for signs of high blood pressure to certain Apple Watches, including Apple Watch Series 11, 10 and 9, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and 3. The hypertension detection feature came to the older watches via a watchOS update. The watches don’t provide specific systolic and diastolic readings like a traditional cuff, but they do monitor for warning signs and will alert wearers to potential hypertension.
Fall detection: There’s also a fall detection feature that can sense when someone takes a tumble and might not be ok–it can even alert the emergency services. You can input important medical information so that it can be displayed on the Watch if required.
Emergency SOS: And if they do need to call the emergency services they can do so from an Apple Watch it is easy to do so (if it has cellular connectivity or a nearby iPhone to route via).
Location tracking: You can also set up the Find My to show you someone’s current location and can be very helpful if the person in question suffers from memory issues and may wander off.
Aside from these more serious use cases, there’s also the simple truth that as hearing starts to diminish, having a notification come up on your wrist can mean you don’t miss important calls or messages.
Which is the best Apple Watch for seniors in 2025?
As with most tech purchases, this depends on what you want and the budget you have available. We’d say that unless your family member or friend is the outward-bound type that’s likely to go canoeing through ravines, the Apple Watch Ultra will be overkill. It’s large, heavy and costs a small fortune. So, here’s our pick of the current crop:

Why the Apple Watch Series 11 is great for the elderly: The Apple Watch Series 11 offers the safety and health features that will be most beneficial to someone of advancing years.
The Apple Watch Series 11 has a larger display than the Apple Watch SE: there’s a 42mm or 46mm model, so if you don’t mind a bulkier watch, you can always choose the bigger screen if you think that will benefit you. The glass is tough and scratch resistant, so its durable and shouldn’t be too battered if knocked.
It has all the safety features you’d want, You’ll also benefit from health features including the ability to take an ECG, monitor your heart rate and notify you if that is irregular and if you are potentially suffering from high blood pressure. It also has the ability to check if the oxygen levels in your blood are ok, plus it will notify you of sleep apnoea and monitor your temperature while you sleep. These features are shared with the Apple Watch Ultra models (and were also available on the Apple Watch Series 10 and 9), but some are lacking from the Apple Watch SE.
Like the Apple Watch SE it will sound an alarm if you fall or are in a crash, and it will send an Emergency SOS if required.
The speaker means it is possible to take calls right in your wrist. The screen is bright and offers up to 2,000 nits, which means it will be easier to read when you are outside in bright sunshine.
The double tap gesture, where you can answer calls and perform other functions just by tapping your thumb and finger together, makes it easier to use the watch without tapping directly on the screen.
Battery life is 24 hrs, which means you might managed to get through more than a day on a single charge. And, with a good power adapter, the charging speed is faster than ever before, which means you’ll only need to leave it on the charger for 30-45 minutes a day.

Why the Apple Watch SE 3 is great for the elderly: The Apple Watch SE 3 offers the safety features, including Fall Detection, can monitor heart rate, and comes with a lower price tag, making it a great option for the budget conscious.
While the Apple Watch SE 3 might not boast as many sensors as its bigger brother, there’s still plenty to love about this less expensive model. You still get the heart monitoring feature, which will alert you if you have an irregular heart rate.
Unfortunately, there is no ECG feature to warn against irregular heart rhythms. Hypertension monitoring is also absent, so won’t monitor for warning signs of high or low blood pressure.
The watch will track sleep and give a Sleep Score. There is Fall Detection and Crash Detection. Plus the SE is waterproof up to 50 meters, just like the Series 11.
The display is smaller than the Series 11, which could be an issue if the intended recipient has poor eyesight, but the 41mm and 44mm models still have clear and bright panels that do a great job of relaying information (and the larger 44mm model beats the 42mm screen on the Series 11, after all).
GPS is standard and you can add cellular capabilities to increase what the Watch can do without an iPhone (the Series 11 has this option too). The chip is the S10, the same as the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3, so there is no fear of this Watch lacking power or not being future-proofed.
For many of the features older users would require, such as fall detection and emergency SOS, the Apple Watch SE 3 is a very good option, especially as it costs quite a lot less than the Series 11.

Why the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is great for the elderly: The Apple Watch Ultra isn’t really designed for the elderly, unless the elderly person is an adventurer most at home climbing mountains and scuba-diving. But it does have a big point in its favor: it offers the largest screen at 49mm, and bigger buttons, which could be a benefit.
Though it is the most expensive option, the bulky Apple Watch Ultra 3 is not necessarily a bad idea for the elderly, as long as they don’t mind wearing a larger watch.
The screen is larger and easier to read, the buttons are more prominent, and the additional Action button may help get things done without fiddling with a tiny display. All Apple Watch Ultra models include cellular hardware (cellular service always costs extra), too.
It’s extra-rugged and durable, which may be just the thing for someone who is more accident-prone. It has all the functions of the Apple Watch Series 11, even more accurate GPS tracking, and Satellite connectivity.
Best of all, it’s got much longer battery life—you may only need to charge it every two or three days.

iPad Air 2026: All the Rumors Several iPads are slated to get updates in 2026, including the iPad Air, low-cost iPad, and iPad mini. The iPad Air could be updated early in the year, sometime around the March or April timeframe.
We've heard a limited amount about the new tablet, but it sounds like there won't be a major overhaul, with Apple primarily focusing on internals.
Design and Display
No design changes are rumored for the iPad Air, so we can expect the same 11-inch and 13-inch size options.
The iPad Air is thicker and heavier than the iPad Pro, and it uses a standard LED display instead of OLED technology. The iPad Air will eventually be upgraded to OLED, but for now, the higher-end display technology will remain limited to the iPad Pro. The iPad Air also doesn't support ProMotion, and there's no sign that Apple is planning to update its middle-tier tablet with the functionality.
The iPad Air will continue to feature USB-C, a Touch ID top button, and the same front and rear camera options.
It's possible there will be a new color option, but it's not guaranteed with a minor refresh. No new accessories are rumored, and it will continue to work with the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil Pro.
M4 Chip
Apple has been updating the iPad Air with an M-series chip that's a generation behind the chip in the iPad Pro. Since the iPad Pro was updated in October 2025 with the M5, the iPad Air is set to get the M4 chip.
The M3 in the current iPad Air and the M4 chip are both built on a 3-nanometer process, but the M4 has an updated process that brings speed and efficiency improvements.
There are up to 10 CPU cores instead of 8, the Neural Engine is faster, and there's more memory bandwidth. The GPU is also more power efficient for potential battery gains. The M4 CPU is up to 30 percent faster than the M3 CPU, while the GPU is up to 21 percent faster.
In actual use, you may not see much of a difference between the M3 and M4 on the iPad Air, though you might experience modest improvements with system intensive games and tasks like video editing.
The iPad Air already supports Apple Intelligence, and the next-generation model will continue to do so. Apple upped the RAM in some iPad Pro models, but there's no word on whether that same change will come to the iPad Air. Current models feature 8GB RAM, the minimum for Apple Intelligence.
Charging
The iPad Pro was upgraded with fast charge functionality with the update to the M5 chip, and that's something that could trickle down to the iPad Air.
N1 Networking Chip
The iPad Air and other tablets released in 2026 will probably adopt the N1 networking chip that Apple first introduced in the iPhone 17 models.
The N1 chip is an Apple-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip that offers connectivity and efficiency improvements compared to the third-party chips that Apple has used in previous devices. The N1 supports the latest Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 technology.
The current iPad Air offers Wi-Fi 6E support, so the next-generation model could see faster Wi-Fi speeds on compatible networks with Wi-Fi 7.
Apple Modem
Apple used the C1X in the M5 iPad Pro, and it's likely the cellular versions of the iPad Air will get that same modem chip. The C1X is an upgraded variant of the C1, Apple's first in-house modem chip.
It offers performance on par with Qualcomm chips, though 5G connectivity is limited to sub-6GHz with no support for mmWave 5G. That's not an issue on the iPad, because the current version of the iPad Air doesn't support mmWave.
Apple's modem chips are much more power efficient than Qualcomm modem chips, and are able to better integrate with other iPad components.
Pricing
There are no rumors of a price increase, so the 11-inch model is expected to continue to start at $599, while the 13-inch model will start at $799.
Launch Date
We're expecting the iPad Air to come out sometime around March or April 2026. Apple could be planning to hold a spring event, since there are several products that are rumored to be launching in that timeframe. This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Black Friday deal: Get Apple TV for just $6 per month on Amazon Prime Video Macworld
If you’re OK watching Apple TV content through the Amazon Prime Video app or website, you can get a year’s subscription for essentially half price. That’s the latest Amazon Prime Video deal: 6 months of Apple TV for $5.99 per month instead of the usual $12.99. There are a few caveats worth mentioning, however:
Your price will automatically go up to $12.99 after six months. That’s standard for this sort of deal.
This is a “channel” on Amazon Prime Video, which works the way channels for other services do—you watch the provider’s content exclusively within Prime Video.
Subscribing here is not the same as subscribing through Apple. You don’t get access within the Apple TV app on any device.
You don’t get Family Sharing through Apple’s usual subscription. It adheres to the Amazon Family rules.
If you use Amazon Prime Video for other things and are okay watching your Apple TV content there, this can save you $42 over the six months. Plenty of time to catch up on Pluribus, Slow Horses, Severance, and all our other favorite Apple TV shows and movies.

iPadOS 26: You need to try these new multitasking features [Video] iPadOS 26 is easily the most significant change to the iPad software we’ve ever seen. Between the new multitasking windows in 26.0, the slide-over refinements in 26.1, and now the return of Split View in 26.2, multitasking on the iPad finally feels natural, intuitive, and productive without compromise. It’s as if Apple finally heard what I have wanted from the iPad since it got its own operating system with iPadOS 13. The best part is that Apple is giving iPad users the best of all forms of multitasking, from full windowed mode, Stage Manager, and the new multitasking. After using it for a few months, I’ve discovered some of my favorite features and use cases.

Google Mocks iPhone in Musical ‘Wicked’ Ad Claiming Pixel Firsts Google this week shared a new ad in its ongoing anti-Apple "BestPhonesForever" series, this time leaning into the launch of the new Wicked: For Good movie that's out in theaters.

Where the rumored budget MacBook fits in Apple's laptop lineup Rumors of an early 2026 release for an entry-level MacBook with an iPhone chip continue to swirl. With an expected price range of between $700 and $900, its place in Apple's laptop lineup is far from clear. The M4 MacBook Air is hard to beatIf the rumors are indeed true, we can likely expect the new laptop to be called "MacBook," so that's the name we're going to use here. And it makes sense, because that's a name that Apple has used before. But what the MacBook would be in 2026 makes for an interesting thought process. Where it would sit in a lineup that already has the $999 13-inch MacBook Air is even more of a quandary. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

MacRumors Giveaway: Win an Apple Watch Series 11 and Nylon Bands From Southern Straps For this week's giveaway, we've teamed up with Southern Straps to offer MacRumors readers a chance to win an Apple Watch Series 11 and three nylon bands from Southern Straps to go along with it.
Southern Straps is a California-based company that has been producing high-quality bands for the Apple Watch since the watch first launched, and the company's selection of bands offer a great alternative to Apple's bands in unique styles that Apple does not offer.
Over a decade ago, Southern Straps set out to make nylon NATO-style bands for the Apple Watch, and it is still making those same handcrafted watch straps today. With multiple years of experience, Southern Straps has had time to perfect the band's look and construction.
Available for $30, each Southern Straps Apple Watch band is made from a single piece of nylon that is folded over, heat sealed, and stitched together for durability. The multi-step process makes sure that every band is going to hold up for multiple years of use, and there is a five-year warranty on the bands.
Southern Straps offers 10+ color options, ranging from solid colors in green, black, and beige, to striped options in colorful combinations like blue and green, blue and pink, khaki and red, blue and white, black and gray, and the classic red, white, and blue.
Bands can be ordered with hardware in black, silver, or gold to match the different Apple Watch models. There are two sizes: one that is compatible with 42mm to 49mm Apple Watch models, and one that is compatible with smaller 38mm to 42mm models. The bands work with every Apple Watch model from the original Apple Watch to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the Series 11.
Pegged spring bars are included with each band so that you can change the hardware if you get an Apple Watch in a new size or a new color. Southern Straps bands are perfect for daily use and transition easily from work to working out.
We have an Apple Watch Series 11 for one lucky MacRumors reader, plus three Southern Straps bands. To enter to win, use the widget below and enter an email address. Email addresses will be used solely for contact purposes to reach the winner(s) and send the prize(s). The MacRumors Show: iPhone 18 Pro Looks Like a Huge Upgrade On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we talk through all of the new features and improvements expected to come to next year's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models.

Apple's next-generation iPhones are less than ten months away and we already have a good idea about what to expect based on corroborated leaks, rumors, and reports from reliable sources.
While the overall design of the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to remain largely the same as that of the iPhone 17 Pro, it could feature translucent or color-matched rear glass, as well as a thicker design to accommodate a bigger battery. Apple is rumored to be testing at least three new color options for the iPhone 18 Pro models, including burgundy, brown, and purple, but only one of these is expected to be carried forward to production.
The front of the device is expected to see Face ID moved under the display for the first time, resulting in a smaller Dynamic Island and potentially a left-aligned punch-hole camera. The front-facing camera is also expected to see a bump up to 24-megapixels.
The main rear camera could receive a new three-stack image sensor from Samsung and it is highly likely to get a variable aperture. A variable-aperture system physically adjusts the lens opening, letting more light in for low-light shots or narrowing the opening for brighter scenes and deeper depth of field. Apple is also expected to "simplify" the Camera Control by removing its capacitive functions, moving it to rely on pressure alone.
It should also sport the A20 Pro chip, which will be Apple's first based on TSMC's 2nm process for enhanced performance and efficiency. A custom "C2" chip is expected to displace Qualcomm's 5G modem, with support for mmWave 5G in the United States. In addition, Apple apparently plans to add support for 5G networks that operate via satellites rather than Earth-based towers.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to debut in the fall of 2026 alongside the first foldable iPhone. The iPhone 18e, iPhone 18, and iPhone Air 2 are likely to follow in the spring of 2027. New Apple Store Opening in Massachusetts Next Month Apple has announced it will be opening an all-new store at The Shops at Blackstone Valley, an open-air shopping center in Millbury, Massachusetts, near Worcester.
The store is set to open on Friday, December 12, at 12 p.m. local time. Apple is located next to fashion retailer Coach at the shopping center.
Apple has yet to share a photo of the store, but it will have a similar design as its Birkdale Village location in North Carolina. Apple's newer stores typically feature a dedicated counter for customers to pick up orders they placed online.
Apple Birkdale Village
The new store is a replacement for Apple's existing location at Solomon Pond Mall, in nearby Marlborough, Massachusetts. That location will be closing permanently next month, after more than 10 years of operations. For relocations like these, Apple typically gives employees the opportunity to transfer to the new store.Tag: Apple StoreThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
Apple’s budget bonanza may bring a cheap(er) MacBook, iPhone, iPad in early 2026 Macworld
Apple is preparing to unveil a glut of cheaper products in the first few months of 2026, according to a new report. This includes the much-anticipated launch of a budget MacBook based on an iPhone processor.
GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, who has an extensive but slightly hit-or-miss track record of Apple predictions, published a research note about the company’s plans for 2026. These plans, he claims, include lower-end versions of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, all likely to launch in the spring.
The affordable iPhone will, of course, be the follow-up to last year’s divisive (and, we hear, commercially unsuccessful) iPhone 16e. Reviewers complained about the 16e’s inconvenient compromises (notably its single rear camera lens and lack of MagSafe) despite a decidedly mid-market price, a combination likely the result of the maker’s wish to focus on processing power and make it compatible with Apple Intelligence. But there’s little to suggest the 17e will address either of those concerns.
Instead, it’s expected to maintain the tradition of combining a high-end processor (likely the same A19 currently included in the iPhone 17) with a similarly low-end rear camera setup, although Pu thinks buyers may get the compensation, as on the iPhone Air, of an 18MP Center Stage front camera for selfies and video chats. The screen notch, meanwhile, is expected to be upgraded to a Dynamic Island.
Pundits always predicted that the 17e would come out in spring 2026, a year on from the launch of its predecessor. But Pu’s claim that it will be accompanied by a low-end iPad and Mac comes as more of a surprise.
The 12th-gen iPad could be an important launch because the 11th-gen model was that rarity for 2025: a new Apple product that can’t run Apple Intelligence. Cupertino will likely move to correct that and usher more users onto its AI platform. But can it achieve the necessary tech specs while maintaining the basic iPad’s crucial and beloved $349 price tag? Probably, but that remains to be seen.
But the greatest point of interest in Pu’s report is that budget Mac. Set to be priced between $699 and $899, the upcoming MacBook will run an A-class iPhone processor (Pu predicts the A18 Pro used by the iPhone 16 Pro, although there have been rumors of an A19) rather than one of the M-class chips used throughout the rest of the current Mac range. It may also, Pu warns, make compromises in other areas, such as an older design, weaker display, less RAM, and potentially just one USB-C port.
On the plus side, it will reportedly come in a set of attractive color finishes–silver, blue, pink, and yellow–to match the current standard iPad.
Pu may not have a flawless predictive record, but these claims make sense and largely match what other pundits are expecting. For all the latest news and rumors, check our regularly updated guide to the new Apple products on the way in 2025 and 2026.
Public anxiety about Apple's Digital ID greatly overstates actual risks Fears about Apple's Digital ID are afraid of a boogeyman that the iPhone can't unleash, and concerns about governmental tracking or over-reach because of it are best pointed at other avenues that actually exist.A digital driver's license in the Apple Wallet appCritics focus on sweeping threats that sound dramatic but don't match the system inside the Apple Wallet Digital ID feature. Some advocates warn that digital credentials could reveal where a person travels or when they present an ID. Many fears connect to surveillance practices that already exist through public cameras, automated license plate readers, and other systems that track movement without consent. The AirPods 4 with ANC crash to $110 in this insane Black Friday discount Macworld
Just when we thought we had seen the best AirPods 4 deal this Black Friday, we get an even better one. Amazon is selling the AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation for an unbelievable $110, a massive savings of $69 off its MSRP, and the best price we’ve seen by a wide margin. You can also get AirPods 4 without ANC for $80, also an all-time low.
The AirPods 4 are easily our favorite non-Pro earbuds, and that’s plenty obvious from the fact that we gave them a 4.5-star rating when we reviewed them, appreciating the top-notch audio quality, the improved sweat and water resistance, and the USB-C charging case.
We also couldn’t complain about the battery life because a single charge gets you 5 hours of playtime on the buds and a total of 30 hours with the case. The H2 chip ensures you can make great quality phone calls with little to no background noise, as well as have an overall better time when listening to music. The AirPods 4 also come with easy access to Siri, so you can ask the assistant for help with everything from making calls to playing specific songs.
Now’s the best time ever to get the AirPods 4 with ANC for $110 or the ANC-less model for $80, so hurry up and take advantage of this Black Friday deal.
This is, by far, the best price we've seen for the AirPods 4Buy now at Amazon

The big news in wireless power banks is all about two technologies these days: super-speedy Qi2 25W charging; and semi-solid-state batteries.
The Kuxiu S3 is not the first semi-sold-state magnetic wireless power bank we’ve tested—that honor goes to stablemate Kuxiu S2. Nor is it the first 25W battery pack: that was the Ugreen MagFlow.
However, the Kuxiu S3 is the first—and surely not the last—semi-solid-state 25W magnetic wireless power bank to enter the Macworld Labs.
Indeed, not only does it tick those boxes but its also boasts three other top-end features: a built-in USB-C cable, integrated kickstand, and digital battery display.
In terms of a magnetic wireless power bank it has it all.
Capacity: 39.5Wh (10000mAh)

Qi2 25W for some, Qi2 for the rest
Elsewhere (in Which wireless tech is best for your iPhone) I’ve written more about the various wireless power outputs, how they affect charging speed and which iPhone can use which charging tech.
In short, the higher the power output the faster the recharge, and only the iPhones 16 and 17 support the very fastest wireless tech Qi2 25W (also known as Qi 2.2). Older iPhones (from 12 on) can use 25W chargers and power banks but are pegged back at 15W.
15W MagSafe or Qi2 wireless charging is still speedy, and faster than found on older and cheaper “MagSafe-compatible” power banks that chug along at 7.5W.
In terms of wireless charging, the Kuxiu S3 is best suited to iPhones 16 and later, which can take advantage of the full 25W on offer.
Simon Jary
Wireless vs wired
25W takes wireless close to the charging speeds that are possible with a cabled wired charger.
In terms of compatibility, another factor to consider is the type of charging port on your iPhone. A built-in cable is fine if it matches your phone’s port. iPhones from version 15 onwards pack a USB-C charging port. Previous models (14 and earlier) use Lightning cables.
Simon Jary
The S3’s USB-C cable feels integrated but can be detached, although I’m not sure why that would be an advantage. It makes it a little more flexible (and losable) and the connection to the power bank is robust so it won’t come out without a good tug. At 10 inches (25cm) it’s longer than most. It tucks neatly around both sides of the power bank.
The S3’s USB-C cable is therefore best suited to later iPhones (15/16/17), just as its wireless charging (16/17) is also more beneficial for later iPhones. That’s not to say it’s useless for older iPhones as it can be used to input power into the battery pack when it needs recharging itself.
The S3’s power input is rated at 30W. That’s not bad but somewhere shy of the EcoFlow RAPID’s unmatched input rate of 65W.
Simon Jary
The included USB-C cable is the best of both worlds being both firmly connected and detachable.Simon Jary
Battery capacity
The Kuxiu S2 performed well in our tests, its 5000mAh (5K) battery recharging an iPhone 16 Pro from 0% to 79%. The S3 has a 10000mAh (10K) battery capacity and managed to recharge that same iPhone to 177%—so up to 100% then another 77% when it came to a second recharging task.
That’s not the top score we’ve had in our 10K power bank tests: the champs so far have been the Anker Zolo 10K and EcoFlow RAPID 10K, both of which scored 190%. But 177% is above average and handsomely beat the 25W Ugreen MagFlow 10K (144%).
While the 5K Kuxiu S2 measures 3.3 x 2.4 x 0.4 inches (8.4 x 6 x 1.1cm) and weighs 174g, the 10K S3 is, as you’d expect, bulkier at 4.2 x 2.8 x 0.9 inches (10.7 x 7.1 x 2.2cm) and weighing in at 245g.
It’s not as slim as the aptly named Anker MagGo 10K Slim (4.1 x 2.8 x 0.58 inches) and is about the same size as the 25W Ugreen MagFlow’s 4.4 x 2.8 x 0.8 inches and 254g.
If you desire an ultra slim magnetic power bank look to the 5K models.
Simon Jary
Semi-Solid-State of the art
A semi-solid state (SSS) power bank is more energy-dense than a traditional liquid electrolyte power bank because its semi-solid electrolyte is less prone to leakage and thermal runaway. SSS is therefore more durable, safer and offers more charge cycles so will last longer.
I can see the day when airlines ban liquid electrolyte power banks; at present it restricts the capacity to 100Wh. The S2’s 10K is 39.5Wh, well within airline regulations, and being semi-solid-state safer to carry.
Simon Jary
Clear display
You can see exactly how much power is left in the power bank via its digital display, which is more accurate than other power banks’ four LED indicators that let you know the remaining capacity only in increments of 15%.
The display is at the bottom of the power bank, next to a spare 30W USB-C port and a power button that switches the display on when you need it.
Even with that spare port plus the wireless pad and cable you sadly can’t charge three devices at the same time, but two is possible at a total shared 15W: wireless + cable 1; wireless + cable 2; or cable 1 + cable 2.
Simon Jary
Stand to attention
If you are using your phone to watch a streaming show or making a video call, you’ll appreciate the kickstand at the back that allows for either portrait or landscape orientation while charging wirelessly.
Simon Jary
Price
The Kuxiu S3 10K Magnetic Power Bank is priced at $68.99 or £54. For a 25W semi-solid-state 10K power bank with all these features, this is great value. It’s also available on Amazon.
For more options we have tested and reviewed the best magnetic power banks.
Should you buy the Kuxiu S3 25W 10K Solid-State Power Bank?
Safe and durable semi-solid-state battery? Tick. 25W wireless charging speed. Tick. Built-in USB-C cable. Tick. Kickstand. Tick. The Kuxiu S3 has it all. We’ve tested slimmer and higher capacity magnetic wireless power banks but what’s on offer at this price is super easy to recommend.
Latest macOS Tahoe beta fixes bug with Electron apps that caused widespread performance issues After macOS Tahoe launched, some intrepid developers noticed that Electron apps could cause the Mac’s rendering system to be overloaded due to an incompatibility with the way Electron apps were overriding the default window corner mask. Users would experience issues like stuttery scrolling when interacting with any app (including non-Electron ones), as long as an Electron app window was currently visible on the desktop.
Major Electron-based apps have subsequently released software updates to work around this bug, but this meant waiting for an update from the developer of each Electron app installed on your Mac. With the latest 26.2 betas, Apple has now fixed the incompatibility at a system-wide level.

Low-cost MacBook and more launching in Q1 2026, report says Analyst Jeff Pu is out with a new investor note today with details on Apple’s timeline for new product launches over the next year.
In the investor note, seen by 9to5Mac, Pu says that Apple will kick off 2026 with the launch of three new low-cost products: the iPhone 17e, a low-cost MacBook, and an updated base model iPad. These devices will launch sometime in mid-Q1 2026, Pu reports.

This Free App Unlocks AirPods Features on Android Devices AirPods have always worked with Android phones, but with limited functionality and a less seamless listening experience. A new app called LibrePods is changing that.
The free app unlocks features on Android that are typically reserved for Apple devices, including ear detection that pauses music when you remove an earbud, Head Gestures for answering calls, and Conversational Awareness that lowers volume while you're talking. It also enables switching between noise control modes, checking accurate battery levels, and customizing accessibility settings.
To make it all work, developer Kavish Devar reverse-engineered Apple's proprietary protocols to make AirPods identify a connected Android device as an iPhone or iPad, which tricks them into sharing device status information normally locked to Apple's ecosystem.
There are some caveats, though. LibrePods currently requires a rooted Android phone with the Xposed framework installed, thanks to what Devar calls "a bug in the Android Bluetooth stack." OnePlus and Oppo devices running ColorOS or OxygenOS 16 can use the app without rooting, however some features like Transparency mode customization still need root access.
The app supports all AirPods models, including AirPods Max, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3 (excluding heart rate monitoring), though not all features are unlocked on earlier AirPods. Interested Android owners can view more details about the project on its GitHub page or directly download the APK file.

How my first iPod touch made me love Apple forever Macworld
If you consider yourself an Apple fan, you’ve probably had that instant when something clicked, when the feeling of opening and using a product seemed like more than just that.
For some people, it was the first tim e they used a Mac. For others, it was unboxing an iPhone or hearing the click wheel on an iPod. For me, the moment came with a device that often gets overshadowed by its more iconic siblings: the original iPod touch.
The day I first held the future in my hands
The year was 2007, and Apple had just unveiled the iPhone. Like so many others, watching the iPhone presentation made me really excited about the future. No one could have imagined a device like that before that moment. The iPhone finally hit stores in July of that year, but with two major limitations: it was only sold under a two-year contract with carriers and was only available in the US.
As someone living in Brazil, owning an iPhone was impossible. But just a few months later, Apple unveiled the first iPod touch. It was essentially an iPhone, but without phone capabilities. It was also much thinner and lacked a camera (replaced by a black Wi-Fi bar).
Unlike the iPhone, the iPod touch was available worldwide, and that’s when I first got my hands on what was then called iPhone OS (now iOS).
I still remember the exact moment when I slid to unlock the iPod for the first time. That gesture was simple, but it felt revolutionary. It was a completely different way of interacting with software. Apple clearly wanted users to experience the touchscreen from the moment they started using the device.
Cover Flow on the iPod touch was a revelatory experience.Foundry
But then came the real “wow” factor: turning the iPod horizontally and seeing the Music app transform into the Cover Flow interface. Being able to slide my finger through my music library felt like magic.
The pinch-to-zoom gesture also blew my mind. It’s not something we think about today, but back then, the ability to manipulate a photo with our fingers seemed like something out of a sci-fi movie.
The start of a lifelong connection to Apple
More than a Mac or any other iPod, the iPod touch felt different, like I was using a product no other company could make. It wasn’t about processor benchmarks or megapixel counts. It was about the feeling of owning and using something special, about how only Apple knew how to turn complex technology into something fun and uncomplicated.
The iPod touch brought the magic of the iPhone to the rest of the world.Foundry
The iPod touch captured that feeling perfectly, offering a slice of the iPhone’s magic at a time when the iPhone itself was out of reach for most users. That moment changed how I saw technology, and it’s what set me on the path to following Apple more closely.
I still have my first iPod touch with me, and surprisingly, it still works. Of course, it’s not as useful anymore, but I’ll always keep it as a reminder of a piece of technology that changed everything for me.
Apple Launches Second Limited-Edition iPhone Accessory in a Month Apple has begun selling the Hikawa Phone Grip and Stand, a new limited-edition iPhone accessory designed with accessibility in mind.
Designed by LA-based Bailey Hikawa to celebrate the 40th anniversary of accessibility at Apple, the grip uses magnets to securely snap onto any iPhone with MagSafe.
Apple says it can be removed with ease, and doubles as a stand with two different viewing angles, in both vertical and horizontal orientations.
Inspired by modern sculpture, the Hikawa's design process involved direct input from individuals with disabilities affecting muscle strength, dexterity, and hand control.
The limited edition Hikawa Phone Grip and Stand is available in two colors: a bold, high-visibility Chartreuse and recycled Crater, exclusive to Apple.
The Hikawa Phone Grip and Stand costs $69.95 and can be ordered from Apple's online store in the U.S. It's the second limited-edition iPhone accessory Apple has released this month, following the high-end designer iPhone Pocket, a cross-body pouch starting at $149.95.Tag: AccessibilityThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

The 12 most ridiculously overpriced Apple products, ranked Macworld
It’s no secret that Apple isn’t a cheap brand. While the company sells relatively affordable “SE” and “e” variants of certain devices, its main focus has always been on the higher-end tiers—and the public generally knows what to expect.
Nevertheless, there have been several instances of Apple releasing exceptionally overpriced products that transcend the typical “Apple tax,” shocking customers with ridiculously high markups. Let’s take a look at some of them, starting with the most accessible of these notoriously pricey items and working our way up to the most jaw-droppingly expensive product in Apple’s history.
12. Polishing Cloth (2021)
Apple
Arguably, the cheapest overpriced Apple product is the Polishing Cloth released in 2021. For $19, you get a 6.3 x 6.3 inches (16 x 16 cm) cloth made from non-abrasive material, suitable for wiping fingerprints off your Apple display. While 19 bucks may be negligible for some people, the product is still objectively overpriced compared to similar microfiber cloths sold by third parties.
Many enthusiasts justify paying premium prices for the tight Apple ecosystem integrations, long years of software support, and reliable build quality. These arguments, however, don’t apply to the Polishing Cloth, since, well, it’s a mere cloth.
11. Crossbody Strap (2025)
Apple
Earlier this year, Apple launched the iPhone 17 series, along with an all-new Crossbody Strap accessory. The $59 product is made of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) yarn and lets you dangle your iPhone across your body when paired with a compatible Apple case (starting at $39).
Like the Polishing Cloth, there’s really no advantage to buying Apple’s $100-plus version, as third-party options made from the same material are offered for a fraction of the price. A similar argument could be made about Apple’s iPhone cases, which cost around $50 and aren’t always durable or… finely woven.
10. iPhone Pocket (2025)
Apple
Now, onto the reason this list is being typed in the first place: Apple’s highly innovative iPhone Pocket. For just $149.95 or $229.95, you can get the short or long variant of this 2025 fashion statement.
For those unfamiliar, the iPhone Pocket is a special-edition project in collaboration with Issey Miyake, the namesake of the Japanese designer famous for making Steve Jobs’s trademark turtleneck. As its name suggests, it’s a 3D-knitted pocket for your iPhone that you can wear or attach to your bag—a Posh Cloth, if you will. While it may visually resemble the fan-favorite iPod Sock, it absolutely doesn’t match its more reasonable $29 pricing.
9. Pro Stand (2019)
Apple
Next, we’ve got the Pro Display XDR’s $999 Pro Stand, launched in 2019. Given the display’s exceptional color accuracy, it would be a steal at $999. Well, except the one grand only gets you the display’s stand—not the display itself.
Now, I’m not going to argue whether the stand-less Pro Display XDR’s $4,999-5,999 pricing is fair, as it’s a niche product for a very specific group of professionals. However, there’s no defense for a separate aluminum stand to cost as much as an iPhone, regardless of how versatile it is.
8. Apple Vision Pro (2024)
Apple
We all knew Vision Pro was going to have a high price tag, but when it was unveiled at WWDC 2023, its whopping $3,499 price tag was at the highest end of expectations. While one could suggest that the price is fair for a first-generation, highly sophisticated spatial computer, Apple retained the same price with this year’s M5 refresh, which brought little more than a new chip. Given that it still can’t replace a Mac and how constrained visionOS is, we can safely declare that the ambitious headset is ridiculously overpriced.
7. Macintosh XL (1985)
Vladeep – shutterstock.com
Back in 1985, the Macintosh XL wasn’t actually a new Mac—it was rather a retooled version of Apple’s failed Lisa PC with $3,995 price tag, which would translate to around $12,000 today when accounting for inflation. Considering the original Lisa (see #3 below) sold for $9,995, the Macintosh XL was downright affordable and actually sold pretty well, but it was discontinued just four months later.
6. iMac Pro (2017)
Apple
As a way to placate professionals who were hamstrung by the cylindrical Mac Pro but still wanted a new machine, Apple launched the iMac Pro in 2017 as a more capable version of the iMac, catering to professionals with exceptionally demanding needs. It was loaded with high-end specs, including up to an 18-core Intel Xeon processor, 5K display, and AMD Vega graphics, but started at an eye-watering $4,999. Initial rumors suggested that the machine would cost up to $17,000, so maybe customers were pleasantly surprised to learn that the maxed-out version capped out at just $13,199.
5. Twentieth Anniversary Mac (1997)
Six Colors
To celebrate 20 years in business, Apple produced 12,000 units of the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh (TAM) in 1997 to show off Apple’s flair for design. This high-end machine had a flat screen LCD and a Bose sound system, but its $7,499 price tag (around $14,600 today), made it one of the company’s priciest devices yet. It was so futuristic, Apple actually delivered it to customers in a limo, but it didn’t sell out until Apple cut the price all the way to $1,995.
4. 18-karat gold Apple Watch Edition (2015)
Foundry
Remember when the Apple Watch was still going through its identity crisis phase? A few unlucky customers’ wallets sure do. In 2015, the 18-karat Gold Apple Watch Edition debuted for an insane $17,000. Not only was it the same watch as the $349 version, but it became obsolete a few years later. Apple still tailors its smartwatches to luxury fashionistas, but the high-end Hermès models top out at $1,949 instead, much easier to swallow.
3. Macintosh Portable (1989)
RR Auctions
If you think the 16-inch MacBook Pro is expensive, 1989’s Macintosh Portable, Apple’s first battery-powered Mac, cost $7,300, or around $18,500 today. While technically “portable,” it weighed 16 pounds and lasted about 10 hours when not plugged in. It was a major step toward the PowerBook and MacBook, but its high price barred it from being adopted by the masses, and the company discontinued it in 1991.
2. Lisa (1983)
Computer History Museum
Released in 1983 for $9,995 (over $31,000 today), Lisa was one of Apple’s first desktop computers. Due to its exorbitantly high cost, however, Lisa’s sales didn’t meet the company’s expectations. As such, Apple buried 2,700 Lisa units in a landfill and launched the Macintosh line a couple of years later for a lower price.
1. Mac Pro (2019)
Apple
Last but not least, we have the world’s most expensive cheese grater. In 2019, a year before entering the M-chip era, Apple launched a modular Mac Pro tower for power users. When maxed out, the Intel-powered computer cost $52,748—excluding the display. This possibly crowns it as the most expensive product Apple will ever release, now that the self-driving car project has been axed.
Today, the latest, maxed-out Mac Pro with an M2 Ultra costs a mere $12,448, a significant drop from $50K. Though the $699 wheel kit is still sold separately.

Black Friday pitfall: Avoid this Apple Watch SE 2 deal at all costs Macworld
With the Black Friday deals season rapidly approaching, Apple fans are living their best life. Bearly everything on sale for all-time-low prices, from MacBooks to AirPods and Apple Watches. But it’s important to be wary of the non-bargains that retailers will mix in with the worthwhile offers.
Amazon is currently selling the Apple Watch SE 2 for an all-time low of $160. That’s almost $90 off the launch price: the SE 2 started at $249 when it came out three years ago, and the best price we’ve ever seen. So, on first glance, you might think it’s a great deal, even for a watch from 2022.
But you should look again.
Just over two months ago, Apple released the Apple Watch SE 3, and as I explain in my review, it’s a huge improvement over the SE 2. It now has an always-on display with tougher glass, new medical features and gestures, on-device Siri, 5G, twice the capacity, fast-charging, and improved battery life. I like the SE 3 so much that I had to tell people not to buy the Series 11. And it’s so much better (and more future-proofed) than the SE 2, that I would recommend buying the SE 3 at its full price, $249, over its predecessor at $160.
But you don’t have to! Despite being just two months old, the Apple Watch SE 3 is already on sale for $200 at Amazon. Even though it’s still $40 more than the SE, you’ll be much happie with it.

Report: Low-Cost iPhone, iPad, MacBook Coming Early 2026 Apple is planning to release new entry-level models across its iPhone, iPad, and Mac categories early next year, with an all-new affordable MacBook the most notable addition to the lineup.
According to a new research report by Jeff Pu of GF Securities seen by MacRumors, Apple will launch the iPhone 17e – its second iteration of the "e" line – in the spring, likely along with a 12th-generation iPad, and a new MacBook featuring an A-series chip originally made for iPhones.
The new, previously rumored MacBook is said to use the A18 Pro from 2024's iPhone 16 Pro models. It is expected to feature a 13-inch display and come in silver, blue, pink, and yellow color options like the iPad.
To meet the MacBook's lower price point – likely to be somewhere between $699 and $899 – Apple may make compromises such as using an older design or display components, 8GB of memory, or even just a single USB-C port.
For the iPhone 17e, Pu believes Apple will use an A19 chip, an 18-megapixel Center Stage camera, and Apple's C1 modem, with most other specifications remaining unchanged from the iPhone 16e.
