Getting 1* reviews on a very generous freemium tier of an app, complaining not everything is free. Do people just have an expectation of mobile apps being free? Meanwhile for my other app, it's a hard paywall with a trial required to even use the app, and I get far more positive reviews (with a few 1* reviews still complaining the app requires payment). How do you engineer your onboardings/freemium offerings to […]

Netflix Launches Free Kids Gaming App to Compete With Apple Arcade Netflix today launched a new Netflix Playground app designed for kids who are eight and under. Playground offers a selection of games with popular characters from shows like Sesame Street and Peppa Pig, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
Playground is included in all Netflix memberships, and it is an expansion of the existing gaming options that Netflix offers. Netflix has had games available since 2021, but now there is a dedicated space for games aimed at children. Netflix Playground is a standalone app that users can sign into with a Netflix account, and it is available on the iPhone and iPad.
With Netflix Playground, Netflix will compete with Apple Arcade, which is Apple's subscription gaming service. Like Playground, Apple Arcade games have no ads, fees, or in-app purchases, with one monthly fee unlocking all content. Apple has hundreds of titles, and it does not have an all-in-one subscription option with both streaming content and gaming access like Netflix does.
Apple does have an Apple One bundle that combines Apple TV, iCloud+, Apple Music, and Apple Arcade for $19.95 per month, but the ad-supported Netflix plan that includes TV shows, movies, and games for adults and children is cheaper at $8.99 per month. Ad-free Netflix is about the same price as Apple One at $19.99 per month.
Netflix's children's app launches as multiple countries have introduced stricter app restrictions for minors and age verification requirements for app users. The renewed focus on content that children are exposed to has likely pushed parents to look for simple, kid-friendly content like Netflix is making available.
The new Netflix Playground app is available in the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, Philippines, and New Zealand today, and it is launching worldwide on April 28. [Direct Link]Tags: Apple Arcade, NetflixThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

iOS 26.4.1 Update for iPhones is Coming Soon Apple's software engineers are testing iOS 26.4.1, according to the MacRumors visitor logs, which have been a reliable indicator of upcoming iOS versions.
iOS 26.4.1 should be a minor update that fixes bugs and/or security vulnerabilities, and it will likely be released either this week or next week.
Last month, Apple launched the Studio Display XDR, and it promised to release a Medical Imaging Calibrator that enables the monitor to display DICOM medical imaging. 9to5Mac today reported that the feature has received FDA clearance and is launching this week, so perhaps there will be a macOS 26.4.1 update and/or a Studio Display XDR firmware update too.
The medical feature will allow radiologists to view diagnostic images in apps like Visage 7 directly on the Studio Display XDR, according to Apple.
These updates will come out ahead of iOS 26.5 and macOS 26.5, which are currently in beta.Related Roundups: iOS 26, iPadOS 26Related Forum: iOS 26This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
Apple Arcade in April: Dredge+ and three other games Macworld
Gaming subscription services are all the rage now, but Apple Arcade isn’t a little different from the likes of PlayStation Plus, EA Play, or Xbox Game Pass. If you’ve got questions about it, we’ve got plenty of answers.
Updated April 6, 2026: There are four new games on the service this month: Dredge+, HYKE: Northern Light(s), My Very Hungry Caterpillar, Unpacking+.
What is Apple Arcade?
Apple Arcade is a gaming subscription service for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and AppleTV that features several hundred games. The games are a mix of genres and styles, and include original games you’ll only find on the service and others that can be found on the regular App Store or even other platforms. Apple Arcade isn’t a streaming service like Xbox Live Cloud Gaming or GeForce NOW. Games must be downloaded onto your device in order to be played.
What do I need to run it?
Apple Arcade was made available as part of iOS 13, iPad OS 13, tvOS 13, and macOS Catalina or later. Some of the more visually-intensive games may only run well on newer hardware, though, and some Mac games require macOS 11 (Big Sur).
How much does Apple Arcade cost?
Apple Arcade costs $6.99/£6.99 per month, and you’ll also get a one-month free trial or you can get three months free if you purchase a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or Mac. To claim your free trial click here.
You can get Apple Arcade for less than $6.99 a month if you subscribe for a year upfront. A year of Apple Arcade is $49.99/£49.99 (so $4.16 a month). If you’re currently on the $6.99 month-to-month plan and want to switch to the annual plan and save some money, you can do so on your iPhone or iPad. Open the App Store app, then tap your account icon in the upper right. Tap Subscriptions, then tap the entry for Apple Arcade. Here, you can switch to the annual plan.
Apple Arcade is also included in the Apple One subscription bundles, which range from $20 a month to $38 a month and include access to Apple Music and Apple TV and iCloud storage. There is also a month free trial of Apple One. To claim the trial, or sign up for Apple One, click here.
How do I sign up for Apple Arcade?
There isn’t an Apple Arcade app—it’s built into the App Store. On your iPhone, iPad, or Mac open the App Store and look for the Apple Arcade tab at the bottom of the screen (or in the left column on macOS). A sign-up screen with a Try It Free button will appear. After the trial you’ll be charged either the monthly or annual fee, depending on your selection. When subscribing, you’ll need to enter your Apple ID password or use Touch ID or Face ID to sign in, and you’ll have to confirm your subscription purchase a few times.
Once you’re done with the sign up, the Arcade section of the App Store shows what games are available to you. To access a game, tap on it in the App Store, then tap the Get button. When the game is done installing on your device, the Get button turns into a Play button, and you can tap it to launch the game. The game app icon will also appear on your device’s Home page.
On the Apple TV, there actually is an Arcade app. Open that to see the sign-up offer. You’ll also find an Arcade tab within the App Store.
Does my subscription include family sharing?
Yes. One $6.99 per month subscription can be shared between up to six people (including you).
How do I cancel Apple Arcade?
First off, keep in mind that if you cancel Apple Arcade (either before your free trial is up or after subscribing), you won’t be able to keep playing the games unless you re-subscribe. If you’re okay with that, you can use the same process you use to cancel any other subscription service. Here’s the easiest way to do it on the iPhone and iPad:
Open the App Store app and tap on your profile photo in the upper right.
In the screen that pops up, press Subscriptions near the top of the page.
You’ll then see a list of active subscriptions, and Apple Arcade should be listed there. Tap it.
You’ll either see Cancel Free Trial or Cancel Subscription toward the middle of the page that appears. Tap whatever option is available, then Confirm Cancellation.
And here’s how to cancel Apple Arcade on the Mac:
Open the App Store app and then press the icon with your profile photo in the lower left.
The Account window will appear, and you should then click View Information at the top of the window. Enter your password when/if prompted.
When your Account Information appears, scroll down to the Manage section and click the Manage link to the right of Subscriptions.
When the list of your active subscriptions appears, click Edit to the right of Apple Arcade.
Toward the middle of the page that appears, you’ll see a button that says either Cancel Free Trial or Cancel Subscription. Click it, then click Confirm Cancellation and Confirm.
Do Apple Arcade games have in-app purchases?
No. In Apple’s words, “since every game includes access to the full experience, including all game features, content, and future updates, no additional purchases will be required.” Even games that have in-app purchases on the App Store won’t have any in Apple Arcade.
Do Apple Arcade games have ads?
Also no. On a related note, Apple says Apple Arcade has no ad tracking.
Is Apple Arcade a game streaming service like GeForce NOW or Xbox Game Streaming?
No. All Apple Arcade are downloaded.
Are there demos for Apple Arcade games?
No, and they’re not really necessary. Like App Store apps, games download quickly and can easily be removed if you don’t want to keep it anymore.
Apple partly envisions Apple Arcade as a way of letting players try out games with more freedom than the App Store currently allows (which is basically none). In Apple’s words, “rather than pay upfront for each game, a subscription to Apple Arcade will give players the opportunity to try any game in the service without risk.”
The service has a free trial, though, as we’ve seen with other Apple subscription services.
Am I able to keep playing Apple Arcade games if I cancel my subscription?
No. As with most subscription services, you only have access while you’re a subscriber.
Can I use controllers with Apple Arcade games?
Yes. In additional to traditional MFi (Made for iOS) controllers, you can pair some specific Bluetooth controllers for either PlayStation or Xbox with either your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. Since many Apple Arcade games are playable on Mac and Apple TV (where controller support is more common), many games will support them. Some games, especially those that are also available in the broader App Store and only for iPhone or iPad, have no controller support.
Recently Apple relaxed the requirements for MFi controller certification, which may have grown out of the Apple Arcade negotiations.
How often are new games released?
Games are typically released on the first Friday of each month. There are some rare exceptions.
What games have been released so far?
There are over 200 games available for Apple Arcade, and the list grows all the time.

Apple’s Studio Display XDR gets medical imaging clearance from the FDA Macworld
Apple has shared news that the Studio Display XDR‘s medical imaging calibrator has received clearance from the FDA. The company’s 501(k) application has been approved; a 501(k) is an application to show that a device seeking FDA approval is substantially equivalent to one that already has been approved (for those functions that the FDA regulates).
Beginning this week, the Medical Imaging Calibrator for macOS will be available for Studio Display XDR customers. It is not clear if it will require a macOS update or a Studio Display software update, or if it is in the currently-released software in a disabled state and can be enabled with a server-side switch.
The feature will only be available in the United States as it has not secured regulatory approval in other regions yet.
Last week, Apple cut the entry-level Studio Display XDR price from $3,299 to $2,899 and offered refunds to anyone who had purchased one with a VES mount instead of a stand. The option with a tilt-and-height adjustable stand still starts at $3,299.
Apple's Impressive Barcelona Store Reopens Next Month Apple's beautiful Passeig de Gràcia store in the heart of Barcelona, Spain has been temporarily closed for renovations since mid-February, but the location is finally set to reopen next month. The store will resume business on May 26, according to Apple's website.
Apple Passeig de Gràcia
Apple Passeig de Gràcia first opened in 2012, and it is one of the company's flagship retail locations. The store is on one of the most popular avenues in Barcelona, inside a historic former bank building with a stunning stone facade.
Apple has another store in Barcelona at the Westfield La Maquinista shopping mall.

AirPods Max 2 vs Pro 3: Which should you actually buy? I have avoided the AirPods Max since their original release in 2020. I could never justify the $550 price tag, especially when the AirPods Pro line was much cheaper, offered more features, and had a more convenient form factor. I knew there was a target customer for these high-end headphones, but at the time, it wasn’t me. Then Apple dropped the true successor to the Gen 1 AirPods Max and added a lot of the features and internal hardware that the AirPods Pro 3 received earlier in 2025. So I decided to pick up a pair, and while the AirPods Max 2 are objectively great headphones, what it truly did was show me just how incredible the AirPods Pro 3 are. Let me explain.

Here’s proof that an Apple Watch knockoff is a terrible deal Macworld
In case you were looking to save some money on a smartwatch that looks just like an Apple Watch, here’s a reason to be very careful about what you spend your money on. Because while the outside might be similar, you’re definitely not getting the same experience.
Lumafield’s First Article blog has an interesting article about the differences between knock-off products and their real counterparts. They used an industrial CT scanner to see inside each product and point out the differences in construction, components, and features. And one set of products that Lumafield looks at is an $799 Apple Watch Ultra 3 and a smartwatch from Oiciido, which ranges in price from $15 to $40.
You don’t have to look hard to see the differences between the Apple Watch (left) and a cheap imitator.Lumafield
And to no one’s surprise, you get what you pay for. The Ultra 3 is packed with components (indicative of a feature-rich device), while the Oiciido watch, “looks almost empty next to it.” The scans also show how the Ultra 3’s parts are sophistically integrated, while you can see loose wires in the Oiciido watch “that would not survive the mechanical and thermal demands of a legitimate wearable.”
One of Lumafield’s most interesting scans is of the Ultra 3’s optical heart rate sensor and its photodiodes for heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring. The Oiciido watch has a “basic” LED heart rate sensor, and no hardware for multi-wavelength SpO2 measurement.
Lumafield’s findings are a good reminder that knockoffs often make big promises and take huge shortcuts to deliver prices that are too good to be true. I do recommend checking out Oiciido’s Amazon store, because its AI-generated images are so bad that they’re funny.

Getting the absolute best smartwatch out there can be quite costly, but for what you get, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 isn’t a bad value—especially when it’s on sale. Like today: Amazon is selling the Apple Watch Ultra 3 for $700 right now, a savings of $100 and the best price we’ve ever seen.
Apple’s latest flagship smartwatch is a big upgrade over previous models, featuring a larger and more vibrant display, as well as better battery life. With up to 42 hours of battery on a single charge, you won’t have to worry about always recharging this thing, especially if you plan on going off the beaten path.
With a rugged titanium build, the sleek and sophisticated watch is perfect for outdoor adventures, featuring satellite SOS, 5G connectivity, and a whole list of health and fitness tools. When we reviewed it, we gave the Ultra 3 a glowing 4.5-star rating, loving just how versatile it is. The best thing about it is that it’s not just a smartwatch, it’s basically a small iPhone on your wrist, letting you text, make calls, and stream music without needing your phone. (Note: You’ll need a smartwatch plan from your wireless carrier, which should be around $10.)
At $100 off, this is a fantastic opportunity to upgrade to the Apple Watch Ultra 3. Don’t miss out on this deal because it’s such a rare find!

Apple Sued by Three YouTube Channels Three established YouTube channels have sued Apple, alleging that the company violated the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) by unlawfully accessing and scraping millions of copyrighted videos from YouTube to train its AI models.
In a class action lawsuit filed in California federal court last week, the owners of the YouTube channels h3h3Productions (plus H3 Podcast and H3 Podcast Highlights), MrShortGame Golf, and Golfholics alleged that Apple "deliberately circumvented" YouTube's protections against video scraping and "profited substantially" by doing so.
Apple's research papers indicate that some of the YouTube videos uploaded by the plaintiffs were used to train its AI models, the complaint alleged.
Apple's actions were "not only unlawful, but an unconscionable attack on the community of content creators whose content is used to fuel the multi-trillion-dollar generative AI industry without any compensation," the lawsuit adds.
The plaintiffs are seeking an injunction and damages individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated in the U.S., per the complaint.
In recent months, the same three YouTube channels have filed similar lawsuits against other tech giants, including Meta, Nvidia, ByteDance, and Snap.
h3h3Productions is a well-known YouTube channel created by Ethan Klein and Hila Klein, and they later created the H3 Podcast. Their channels have millions of followers, while MrShortGame Golf and Golfholics have hundreds of thousands of followers.Tags: Apple Intelligence, Apple Lawsuits, YouTubeThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

NASA just gave Apple the best Shot on iPhone ad ever Macworld
Remember the Shot on iPhone ad campaign? Well, a pair of photos from the astronauts on Artemis II might spur Apple to bring it back.
As they make their way toward the moon–an event that will be livestreamed today beginning at 1 p.m. ET–the astronauts Christina Koch and Reid Wiseman shared two incredible photos of Earth (via NASA’s X account) taken from the window of the Orion spacecraft. But it wasn’t taken with a high-tech camera. It was snapped with an iPhone 17 Pro.
Originally conceived to promote the iPhone 6, the Shot on iPhone campaign ran for years and featured original photography from iPhone users. In 2019, Apple ran a contest and selected 10 winners to showcase their shots on billboards in select cities, in Apple stores, and online. If the same contest were held this year, there’s no question that these two shots would be among the winners.
Inside the dim Orion spacecraft, a window in the center of the image shows a brightly lit Earth and astronaut Reid Wiseman sits on the right side looking back at Earth.
NASA
As reported by The New York Times, the iPhones onboard the spacecraft are strictly for taking photos and can’t connect to the internet or Bluetooth accessories. Apple has no part in the planning or selection of the phones used on board, but we assume they’re pretty happy with the results.
The photos are of Koch and Reid looking out the window at Earth, which is nearly fully visible. The alt-text included reads: “Inside the dim Orion spacecraft, a window in the center of the image shows a brightly lit Earth and an astronaut sits on the right side looking back at Earth.” The photos were snapped with an iPhone 17 Pro, but it’s not clear what zoom or settings were used.
While iPhones have traveled through space before, this is the first time a smartphone has been fully qualified for extended use in orbit.

Mac Mini and Mac Studio Facing Extreme Shipping Delays Amid Severe RAM Shortage Apple's online store in the U.S. is currently showing delivery estimates of up to 4-5 months for many Mac mini and Mac Studio configurations with upgraded amounts of RAM. The delays are occurring amid a severe global memory chip shortage driven by surging demand from companies building AI servers that require large amounts of RAM.
For example, a Mac mini with an M4 Pro chip and 64GB of RAM ordered from Apple's online store in the U.S. today is estimated to ship in 16-18 weeks.
Even the $599 base model with an M4 chip and 16GB of RAM has a one-month delay.
Likewise, a Mac Studio with an M3 Ultra chip and 256GB of RAM is estimated to ship in 4-5 months, with in-store pickup not available until September.
Last month, Apple entirely removed the Mac Studio's 512GB of RAM option.
Memory chip prices are reportedly starting to stabilize or slightly decrease, but prices still remain well above historical averages, so high-end Mac mini and Mac Studio shipping estimates might not meaningfully improve any time soon.Related Roundups: Mac Studio, Mac miniBuyer's Guide: Mac Studio (Caution), Mac Mini (Caution)Related Forums: Mac Studio, Mac miniThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Best Thunderbolt and USB-C docking stations for your MacBook 2026 Macworld
Plug your MacBook in and out of a multi-port laptop docking station to swiftly add multiple devices and external displays with just one cable connection to your laptop. We tested the top contenders to find the best Thunderbolt and USB-C docks available to owners of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
Thunderbolt, USB4 or USB-C
The connectors all look the same (technically known as a “Type-C connector”), but there are significant differences, particularly on speed that will determine both data-transfer rate and higher external display refresh rates.
USB-C: 5Gbps or 10Gbps
USB4: 20Gbps or 40Gbps
Thunderbolt 3 and 4: 40Gbps
Thunderbolt 5: 80Gbps / 120Gbps
Our list Which ports does my MacBook have will show you how many USB-C or more likely one of Thunderbolt 3, 4 or 5 that you have.
While an older Thunderbolt 3 (TB3) dock will be enough for most casual users, if you can stretch the budget go for a TB4 or TB5 dock as they will remain current for years, saving you money in the long term, and are backwards compatible with earlier versions and all the way back to USB-C. High-end professionals should aim for Thunderbolt 5.
The dock needs one (“upstream“) Thunderbolt or USB-C port for connecting to and charging your laptop (although all recent MacBooks can also power via the MagSafe 3 port), and at least another (“downstream“) to attach further devices (hard drives, external display, and others).
For more detail, read our Thunderbolt 5 vs Thunderbolt 4 vs Thunderbolt 3 vs USB4 explainer.
Add external displays to your MacBook
If you use your laptop as your principal computer, attaching at least one larger display to create a hybrid desktop/laptop setup, with a keyboard and mouse, will boost your productivity. You can turn that 13in MacBook’s cramped screen real-estate into an iconic iMac-sized 27in or even larger screen by adding an extra display—or connect two or even four large monitors to extend your screen across your whole desk. Take a look at our recommended best monitors and displays for Mac and also the best portable monitors for Mac.
You’ll get two or more Extended mode screens (where the screen extends beyond what you can see on the laptop screen) using a Thunderbolt connection (or DisplayPort/HDMI). Natively over mere USB-C, Macs can connect to only one external display in Extended mode, as opposed to Mirrored mode (which replicates exactly what you get on the laptop screen) but DisplayLink is third-party software that allows some docks to extend to up to four screens on even the most basic Mac. DisplayLink-supporting docks are also the only way that non-Pro/Max M1 and M2 MacBooks can connect more than one external display.
More explained: we cover more on Mac docking stations and external displays at the end of this feature below our recommendations.
Do I need a docking station?
With three TB4 or TB5 and an HDMI port, a MacBook with a Max chip could connect to up to four external displays without the need for a dock, although such a power user would likely require extra Thunderbolt and other ports for more devices to make up for using all the laptop ports for multiple monitors. See below our list of recommended docking stations for more detail on the external display options with each recent MacBook.
All docks come with a bunch of USB ports: some old-school USB-A and newer, more capable USB-C. MacBook Pros also have an SD card reader. Although this card reader is rated as UHS-II (312MBps), Apple has pegged it back at 250MBps, so for the fastest speeds (and a microSD slot if you need one), a dock will likely be a better choice for memory-card use if it is rated at UHS-II rather than UHS-I (104MBps).
MacBooks also lack wired Internet access via an Ethernet port, so if you want to escape flaky Wi-Fi, buy a dock with at least Gigabit Ethernet, although you could add a Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet adapter instead if you have a spare TB port. Some later docks include faster 2.5Gb, 5Gb or even 10Gb Ethernet but you’ll need a supporting router or other device to get the benefits, although these faster Ethernet ports are backwards compatible with Gigabit so will future-proof your purchase.
Dock or hub?
If you need just a few extra ports, a USB-C hub or Thunderbolt hub might be your best choice—see our roundup of the best USB-C and Thunderbolt hubs for Mac. However, if you require a bunch of fast ports including Gigabit (or faster) Ethernet and multiple video ports plus more powerful charging capability, then look for a full dock that fulfils your needs. We’ve reviewed the best hubs alongside the docks.
USB-C and Thunderbolt speeds

• USB and Thunderbolt speeds explained
USB PD: Power Delivery for your laptop
Most docks can charge the connected MacBook, so look for the right Power Delivery (PD) rating that suits your laptop. You can’t over-power a MacBook so the simplest advice is to aim as high as you can. 70W will be more than enough to fast-charge a MacBook Air but go for 85W or more (PD 3.0) for a MacBook Pro, and 140W (PD 3.1) for the top-end 16-inch Pro.
We’ve got more detailed advice on recommended MacBook charging speeds below our list of docks.
Best docks for Mac 2026
Here we list the Thunderbolt and USB-C docks that we have reviewed and tested. Read the descriptions for details on all the features and functions offered by each docking station.
We start with the latest Thunderbolt 5 docks as they offer the most but docks with TB4 and even TB3 might be all you need and often (not always) come in cheaper. The benefit of buying a Thunderbolt 5 dock now—even if your Mac doesn’t have it—is that it’s backwards compatible and future proofs you for your next Mac purchase.

Type: 80Gbps Thunderbolt 5 Dock
Ports: 20
Power: 140W PD 3.1; 330W max
External displays: Up to 2x 8K at 60Hz or 1x 8K at 60Hz; 3x/4x displays using M5 Pro/Max
If you desire the ultimate in MacBook docking stations, the CalDigit TS5 Plus has just about everything you need—indeed probably more than you need. Alongside super-fast Thunderbolt 5 you get an incredible number of top-end ports including 10Gb Ethernet and an incredible 330W power supply.
Somehow CalDigit has included an incredible clearly labelled 20 ports into the compact dock—all of which can be used simultaneously—including ten 10Gbps USB ports (five USB-C and five USB-A), the fastest Ethernet available, top-rated card readers and audio ports front and back. There are three 80Gbps Thunderbolt 5 ports: one upstream to connect to your computer and two downstream for speedy data-transfer devices.
CalDigit has sacrificed a possible third downstream TB5 port for a dedicated DisplayPort in the knowledge that most dock users run at least one external display and so the extra TB5 port would be used for a monitor connection anyway. Depending on the display capabilities of your MacBook, the maximum resolution is 8K at a 60Hz refresh rate, with a possible refresh rate of 240Hz for 4K or 500Hz for 1080p HD.
Advances in the top-end M5 processors mean that a MacBook Pro with an M5 Pro or M5 Max chip can now respectively attach three or four external displays from the TS5 Plus. Standard M5, M4 Pro and M4 Max and lower are still restricted to two external displays.
The TS5 Plus is the first dock with dual 10Gbps USB controllers, one controller for the front ports and one for the ports at the back of the dock for increased USB bandwidth. Each of the USB ports offers 7.5W of power except the front-facing 36W USB-C port. The two downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports also offer 36W. As it has the highest power supply of any dock tested here (330W), all can output at a maximum at the same time—something that’s not possible with most other docks.
One upstream Thunderbolt 5 port (80Gbps, 140W)
Two downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports (80Gbps, 36W)
Five USB-A ports (10Gbps, 7.5W)
Four USB-C ports (10Gbps, 7.5W)
One USB-C port (10Gbps, 36W)
One DisplayPort 2.1
Ethernet (10Gb)
UHS-II SD card reader (312MBps)
UHS-II microSD card reader (312MBps)
3.5mm combo audio jack (front)
Two 3.5mm In/Out audio jacks (back)
330W power supply
Who should buy the CalDigit TS5 Plus?
There isn’t a docking station available now that rivals the CalDigit TS5 Plus for number and quality of ports, although the iVanky FusionDock Max 2 (reviewed below) can natively handle three displays. Each port is rated as high as they go. Priced at $499 in the US (£469 in the UK) it’s significantly more expensive than the Sonnet Echo 13 ($369) and OWC ($329) and Plugable Thunderbolt 5 ($299) docks but none can match the CalDigit TS5 Plus on sheer number and speed of ports and highest-level features. Power users who want the very premium end will pay top dollar for the best. If you can cope with a little less, consider the 15-port CalDigit TS5 reviewed below.

CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 5 Plus (TS5 Plus) review
Apple’s first 50 years were just the beginning. Get ready for a wild 2026 Macworld
Over the past couple of weeks, Apple, Macworld, and everyone else in the tech sphere spent time celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary, looking back at not just the company’s rich history, but also our own past and how Apple has played a part in it. It’s been a blast, but now it’s time to get down to business.
As you read this article, Apple is now 50 years and five days old (and counting). I point that out because, as die-hards know, Apple is more interested in looking forward than looking back. So, now that we’ve had time to recover from all the revelry, it’s time to get ready for the next 50 years of Apple. And it’s set to get off to a really fast start.
While the MacBook Neo might have come in just under the wire, in June, Apple will preview the much-awaited Sri overhaul that is expected to ship with version 27 of its operating systems. As we all know (perhaps begrudgingly), AI is the future of tech, and Apple has stumbled and bumbled its Apple Intelligence plan. But AI is going to be what drives Apple (and all tech companies) over the next 50 years, so it needs to get on track. That’ll start at WWDC26.
Once the AI issue is settled, Apple will shift to hardware releases, and it’ll be more than the usual iPhones and Macs. In September, Apple is expected to release its first folding iPhone, also certain to be its most expensive iPhone ever. While all eyes will be on how Apple executes the hardware, the real key will be with the software and how Apple will enhance iOS so it can take advantage of the new form factor.
After that, perhaps in October, Apple will reportedly release a product we thought we’d never see: a touchscreen MacBook Pro. It’ll be dramatically different, and we’ll be looking for hints at WWDC26, if we can read between the lines (or in this case, code) of macOS 27. Besides the touchscreen, the MacBook Pro is going to see a design overhaul in an effort to further differentiate the laptop from the MacBook Air and MacBook Neo.
Reports also say that Apple is planning to finally release the long-reported smart home hub, or HomePad, which would act as a central station for a smart home. This product relies on Siri, so again, WWDC26 could tell us a lot of what’s going on here. But the smart home market is a place where Apple could make a major part of its next 50 years.
That’s just what we could see by the end of 2026. They’re extremely important products, because they form the basis of what Apple can do in the upcoming years and into the next 50.

Looking like something from a spaceship, the Aulumu M10 Power Bank will draw admiring glances, and envious ones too if the starer’s Apple devices are running low on battery.
Design
The Aulumu M10 Multi-Charging Dual-Mag 10000mAh Power Bank has a long name and a long body compared to most magnetic power banks. This is because, as its name suggests, it’s not just good at recharging a connected iPhone but will work with other Apple devices too—even at the same time.
You could wirelessly charge an iPhone (12 and later) plus any model of Apple Watch, while using the built-in cable to charge a third USB-C device. That could be your AirPods case if it has USB-C as its charging port rather than the older Lightning port.
The M10 measures 5.3 inches (135mm) long by 2.9 inches (73mm) wide and 0.7-inch (18mm) deep, and weighs 8.7oz (248g). Compared to other 10K power banks it’s bulky but remember this beast can charge three devices at once—two wirelessly.
It’s better compared to similar multi-device battery packs. Rival magnetic iPhone and Apple Watch-charging power banks include the 10K Kuxiu K1 that measures 4.1 x 2.7 x 0.8 inches (105 x 69 x 20mm) and weighs 8.9oz (253g). The OneAdaptr OneGo has dimensions of 4.7 x 2.8 x 0.94 inches (120 x 70 x 24mm) and a weight of 7.8oz (220g).
The M10 is noticeably longer than both those alternatives but about the same width a little slimmer, with around the same weight.
Aulumu
The silver-gray metallic case looks cool, as do the five indicator LEDs and the glowing light that changes color depending on what it’s doing. When charging, it pulses orange. When being charged itself, it’s more of a cool blue.
The 6.3-inch (160mm) USB-C cable means you won’t have to carry around a spare cable if you want to charge faster using a wired connection. It fits into a secure notch making it a handy carry cable that you can hold or attach to another object such as your belt to backpack.
The battery-life indicator is made up of five easily visible LEDs, compared to the usual four. The more LEDs the more accurate picture you have of how much power is left in the battery pack. For a four-LED display each represents 25% so is only accurate to that degree, The M10’s five mean you know within 20% what the remaining charge is. A digital display—seen with some power banks such as the Kuxiu S3—gives the most accurate reading down to a single-figure percentage.
Simon Jary
Old-school wireless speeds
While the look is futuristic the charging speeds are a bit yesterday, so space-age in a retro rather than futuristic way.
While some magnetic power banks are now rated at 25W charging power (Qi2.2), the Aulumu M10 is “MagSafe Compatible” so only 7.5W compared to the now normal 15W certified-MagSafe or Qi2. In its specs it claims a 15W maximum but for iPhones an uncertified rating means it will drop to 7.5W. We’d expect 15W as a minimum these days, but that elevel of power/speed is important only if you are in a real hurry.
The low power output means it will take longer to charge an iPhone: around 90 minutes compared to 15W’s 45 minutes or 25W’s approximate 30 minutes.
Aulumu
If you’re not in a rush, this doesn’t matter at all, but if you need to quickly recharge your iPhone look at our other best magnetic iPhone power bank reviews—or use the 35W USB-C cable direct to the iPhone (if iPhone 15 or later) as shown above. Wired charging beats even 25W wireless and is certainly speedier than 7.5W wireless.
The Apple Watch charger on the other side is rated at 2.5W, so won’t fast-charge your Watch like some of the best Apple Watch chargers that can output 5W to the Watch.
When using all three outputs—wireless iPhone and Watch plus cable—at the same time, total output is 15W.
Aulumu
Performance
The Aulumu M10 has a 10000mAh (milliamp) battery, rated at 36Wh (watt hours).
In our tests using an iPhone 16 Pro, it scored 158%—meaning it completely recharged the depleted iPhone once and then again to 58% on the second charge once the iPhone had run dry again.
Compared to other 10K magnetic power banks this score is not the lowest (around 140%) but also not the highest (190%), with the average being about 170%.
That said, those are iPhone-only power banks without the added Apple Watch-charging module. Anyone whose Watch has died during the day will thank themselves for buying a dual-device power bank when it’s needed, rather than carrying an individual Apple Watch power bank or just losing all those Activity points while out and about.
Using the 35W cable we recharged a spent 14-inch MacBook Pro to 45%, which is about the average for a 10K power bank—and again a useful tool for any tech traveler.
Simon Jary
Price
The Aulumu M10 Multi-Charging Dual-Mag 10000mAh Power Bank is priced at $89.98 / £79.
Rival multi-device power banks include the $99 Kuxiu K1 Ultra 3-in-1 MagSafe 10K Power Bank, which is faster at 25W but lacks the M10’s integrated cable, and the equally cableless $89 OneAdaptr OneGo 3-in-1 power bank (also 7.5W).
Should you buy the Aulumu M10 Multi-Charging Dual-Mag 10000mAh Power Bank?
We love this 3-in-1 power bank’s amazing looks and built-in cable, but the low wireless power output rather lets this multi-device power bank down if your charging needs are immediate.

New Macs? Apple TV? Here’s what’s coming from Apple in April Macworld
The biggest Apple event in April is definitely the company’s 50th anniversary. We have a lot of features related to the event, which was officially on Wednesday, April 1.
Other than the possibility of some M5 Mac refreshes and maybe an overdue Apple TV update, there’s not much else expected in April. The OS 26.5 updates will continue their beta tests, with a small chance of going into wide release late in the month. But we no longer expect any sort of Siri overhaul until the OS 27 releases later this year, leaving precious little in the OS 26 updates. There will be new Apple TV shows and Apple Arcade games, of course. But when it comes to new hardware, again, all eyes are now on WWDC in June rather than April or May.
New hardware releases
Though they were announced in March, the AirPods Max 2 only started to ship at the start of April. The new model takes the existing AirPods Max hardware (including the same colors) and upgrades the audio processor from the H1 to the H2, bringing with it some new features and improvements to noise cancellation.
However, there’s a lot of other hardware still rumored to arrive in the first half of 2026, any of which could arrive this month:
M5 Mac mini: Apple updated its M4 laptops to M5 processors, but its desktops still run M4 chips. The Mac mini is already low on stock or sold out everywhere, so it’s probably first in line to get an update.
M5 Ultra Mac Studio: Now that the Mac Pro is retired, the Mac Studio takes the crown as Apple’s fastest and most powerful desktop Mac. Apple is expected to update the current model with an M5 Ultra chip, which will bring a significant performance boost over the M3 Ultra. That might not arrive until WWDC, though.
M5 iMac: Like the other desktop Macs, the iMac also still has an M4 processor. However, Apple has skipped iMac generations before, most recently with the M2, so it’s possible it doesn’t get an update until the M6.
Other products are seemingly close to release, but are waiting on the new Siri: a new Apple TV 4K, new HomePod mini, and a smart home hub many are calling “HomePad.” All of these products are dependent on new Siri capabilities that are nearly two years late, and with all the new Siri features now seemingly bumped back to the OS 27 releases this fall, these products might sit on the back burner until the fall.
Apps and software updates
The beta testing period for iOS 26.5 (and other 26.5 releases) has begun, and still no sign of the new Siri, even in a limited capacity. There are very few new features in the OS 26.5 releases so far—more RCS encryption testing and support for ads in Maps—and we don’t have big expectations for the final release. It will most likely arrive in early May, though it could arrive in late April.

NASA Shares Photos Shot on iPhone 17 Pro Max During Artemis II Mission to the Moon NASA has shared three incredible photos shot on the iPhone 17 Pro Max by astronauts during the Artemis II mission to the Moon.
Shot on iPhone 17 Pro Max
In February, NASA announced that the iPhone had been fully qualified for extended use in orbit, with reports indicating that each of the four crew members aboard the Orion are equipped with an iPhone 17 Pro Max for personal photos and videos.
The photos show Artemis II's Commander Reid Wiseman and Mission Specialist Christina Koch looking back at Earth through one of the Orion spacecraft's main cabin windows. Flickr data indicates that these photos were shot with the iPhone 17 Pro Max's front camera on April 2, which was the second day of the mission.
Shot on iPhone 17 Pro Max
All other photos from the mission shared so far were captured with other cameras, such as the Nikon D5, Nikon Z 9, and GoPro HERO4 Black.
Shot on Nikon D5
Artemis II is NASA's first crewed mission to the Moon since 1972. The crew is expected to reach the far side of the Moon on Monday, breaking the all-time record for the farthest distance traveled from Earth by humans. However, the Orion is not capable of landing on the Moon and is set to return to Earth on April 10.Related Roundup: iPhone 17 ProTags: NASA, PhotosBuyer's Guide: iPhone 17 Pro (Neutral)Related Forum: iPhoneThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Need some advice on whether to watermark or not Hi, I’m about to release something and I’d appreciate some feedback concerning a video feature for my app. I can’t help focusing on how easy it will be for users to just screen record Whats they want on the app and essentially record it. Apple Brings Device-Level Age Verification to Two More Countries 11 days ago Apple launched device-level age restrictions in the U.K. There were some glitches, reports the blog 9to5Mac.
For me, the experience was an entirely painless one, taking less than 30 seconds. All I had to do was tap a confirm and continue button, and Apple told me that the length of time I'd had an Apple account was used to confirm that I'm 18+. Others, however, experienced difficulties with the process timing out or failing to complete. We summarized some of the steps you can take to try to address this. Apple has since listed additional acceptable ways to verify your age. "You can confirm your age with a credit card, or by scanning a driver's license or one of the following PASS-accredited Proof of Age cards: CitizenCard, My ID Card, TOTUM ID card, or Young Scot National Entitlement Card."
If you don't verify your age, then you'll be treated as a child or teenager, meaning that both the web content filter and communication safety features are switched on.
Apple is continuing the roll-out in Singapore (population 6 million) and South Korea (population 52 million), the article points out, citing a new Apple support document.
South Korea's law actually requires Apple to re-verify someone's age annually.

I am having trouble with making a bi-directional lazy loading infinite scroll in swift I made it work kinda, but the problem is how it behaves. The biggest issue is the fact that when I scroll up and items are added there is some jiggle about the scroll position and generally at some point it loses scroll position. Anyone here who had experience with that? submitted by […]

Built an offline iPhone subscription tracker focused on privacy and simplicity — looking for feedback Hey everyone, I built Minus., an iPhone subscription tracker designed around a pretty strict set of constraints: • no bank connections • no account creation • no cloud dependency • no attempt to turn it into a full finance app The goal was to make recurring subscription costs feel clear and manageable without adding more […]
I built an app to solve something Apple still hasn’t. There’s no native way to organise screenshots when you take them. Hey everyone, This has bugged me for years as both a user and a developer. You find something online, a recipe, a product, an outfit, whatever, and your only real option is to screenshot it. Apple gives you zero way to tag it, categorise it, or do anything useful with it at the point of […]
