Someone Is Trying To 'Hack' People Through Apple Podcasts Apple's Podcasts app on both iOS and Mac has been exhibiting strange behavior for months, spontaneously launching and presenting users with obscure religion, spirituality and education podcasts they never subscribed to -- and at least one of these podcasts contains a link attempting a cross-site scripting attack, 404 Media reports. Joseph Cox, a journalist at the outlet, documented the issue after repeatedly finding his Mac had launched the Podcasts app on its own, presenting bizarre podcasts with titles containing garbled code, external URLs to Spotify and Google Play, and in one case, what appears to be XSS attack code embedded directly in the podcast title itself.
Patrick Wardle, a macOS security expert and creator of Objective-See, confirmed he could replicate similar behavior: simply visiting a website can trigger the Podcasts app to open and load an attacker-chosen podcast without any user prompt or approval. Wardle said this creates "a very effective delivery mechanism" if a vulnerability exists in the Podcasts app, and the level of probing suggests adversaries are actively evaluating it as a potential target. The XSS-attempting podcast dates from around 2019. A recent review in the app asked "How does Apple allow this attempted XSS attack?"
Asked for comment five times by 404 Media, Apple did not respond.

Use ChatGPT as Your iPhone's Action Button Assistant Apple doesn't currently allow iPhone users to change the Side button's Siri functionality to another assistant, but owners of iPhone 15 Pro and newer models can assign ChatGPT to the Action button instead. Keep reading to learn how.
OpenAI's free ChatGPT app for iPhone lets you interact with the chatbot using text or voice. What's more, if you assign voice mode directly to the Action button, you can use it to jump straight into a spoken conversation, giving you quick, handsfree access to a far more capable assistant.
Install the ChatGPT app, then sign into your account or create a new one.
Next, open the Settings app.
Tap Action Button.
Swipe to Controls, then tap the two chevrons beside the currently assigned control.
Using the control search field, type "ChatGPT."
Select the control Open ChatGPT Voice.
A long press of the Action button will now open ChatGPT's voice mode. The first time you activate it, the app may request microphone access. Tap Allow to proceed. After that, you can begin speaking immediately.
A recent update means voice conversations now take place inside the same chat window as text-based prompts, instead of switching to a separate voice-only interface. Responses appear in real time, combining spoken output with on-screen text and any visuals the model generates. This keeps your conversation's context intact and makes switching between typing and speaking smoother.
Continue the Conversation Anywhere
You can also leave the ChatGPT app during a voice session without ending it. When you swipe away, the conversation continues and appears in the Dynamic Island as long as the assistant is listening and preparing a response. To stop, tap the Dynamic Island to return to the app, then tap End.
Note that while this setup gives you a fast, physical shortcut to a richer, more context-aware assistant, ChatGPT can't perform Siri-like system actions like accessing your calendar or setting an alarm.Tag: ChatGPTThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

The MacRumors Show: Apple's Big Plans for iPad Mini 8 On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we talk through the latest rumors about Apple's upcoming iPad mini 8.
Subscribe to The MacRumors Show YouTube channel for more videos
The next-generation version of the iPad mini is expected to feature an OLED display, as part of Apple's plan to expand the display technology across many more of its devices. Apple's first OLED device was the Apple Watch in 2015, followed by the iPhone in 2017 and the iPad Pro in 2024. It now apparently plans to bring the technology to more devices, such as the iPad Air, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro, and could start with the iPad mini next year.
The current iPad mini has a Liquid Retina LCD display, just like the iPad Air. OLED offers higher contrast with true blacks, wider viewing angles, faster response times, better efficiency, and generally better perceived picture quality than LCD.
The current iPad mini came out in 2024, with the main upgrade over the previous version being the A17 Pro chip and Apple Intelligence support. The previous generation introduced a complete redesign and the A15 Bionic chip.
In August, Apple mistakenly shared code that revealed key information about the next-generation iPad mini with the codename J510/J511: The device features the A19 Pro chip, which is used in the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The current iPad mini uses a version of the A17 Pro chip from the iPhone 15 Pro with a five-core GPU. The A19 Pro used in the iPhone Air also has a five-core GPU, as opposed to the full six-core version in the iPhone 17 Pro models, so it seems likely that this binned version of the chip will be the one used in the next iPad mini.
Bloomberg claims that Apple is working on a version of the iPad mini that has a more water resistant design, making it the first iPad with a water resistance rating.
While the iPhone has IP68 water resistance that allows it to withstand submersion in water up to six meters deep for 30 minutes, it is not yet known what IP rating the iPad mini might feature. The iPad mini's updated casing is expected to offer water resistance similar to the iPhone, making it safe for casual use in wet environments like a bath or a pool area.
Apple has reportedly developed a new speaker system for the iPad mini that uses vibration-based technology, allowing for the speaker holes in the device to be removed. Removing the speaker holes would cut down on areas where water could get into the crevices of the iPad mini.
For the iPhone, Apple uses adhesive and gaskets to protect the speaker holes and other ingress points from water intrusion, so the iPad mini's design would be radically different. The current iPad mini does not have an official water resistance rating and it is not safe to get it wet.
With an OLED display, water resistance, a new speaker system, and a faster chip, the device is expected to be more expensive, and Apple could charge up to $100 more for the device. The iPad mini is currently priced starting at $499. Apple will purportedly launch the iPad mini 8 with OLED display in the third quarter of next year at the earliest.
We also discuss further thoughts on the M5 Vision Pro, weighing up its utility for travel and day-to-day use-case, and take a look at the growing differentiation and optionality within Apple's product lineups. Save $60 on this 4K LG UltraFine monitor for your Mac in this Black Friday sale Macworld
Apple’s 27-inch Studio Display is an excellent monitor, but it doesn’t have an excellent price. But this 27-inch LG UltraFine at Amazon does. Normally $280, it’s down to $220 for Black Friday, the absolute best price this model’s ever been.
You won’t get a camera or spatial audio, but this LG UltraFine will deliver crisp and clear 3480x2160p resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. Alongside that 5ms response time, this monitor is better suited for handling your daily workload and watching YouTube than it is for gaming, but if you’re hooking it up to a Mac, you probably don’t mind. You can adjust this monitor exactly how you want it, tilting and pivoting it, and adjusting its height at just the right spot so your neck and back stop complaining as much. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that it looks absolutely gorgeous and will fit right in with all your sleek Apple gear.
Just note it connects via HDMI, so if you have a MacBook Air, you’ll need an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter to connect it to your Mac’s DisplayPort. Otherwise, the LG UltraFine 4K IPS display is the monitor your office needs, especially now that it’s more affordable than ever at its Black Friday $220 price point.

iPhone 17 Lineup Drives Smartphone Growth in China Apple's iPhone 17 lineup was the clear driver of smartphone growth during China's "Singles Day" shopping festival, according to new industry data.
Apple was the top-selling smartphone brand throughout this year's month-long Singles Day period in China, accounting for 26% of all smartphone sales, according to a new report from Counterpoint Research shared by Reuters. Overall smartphone sales rose just 3% year-over-year, and Counterpoint says the iPhone alone prevented the market from seeing what would otherwise have been a 5% annual decline.
Counterpoint's data indicates that demand for iPhone 17 models was particularly strong throughout the festival, which ended on November 11. The rebound continues a trend seen over recent months, during which Apple has steadily outpaced the wider Chinese smartphone market after years of cooling demand.
Data provider Syntun told Reuters that total Singles Day sales across all major e-commerce platforms reached 1.70 trillion yuan ($240 billion), up from 1.44 trillion yuan last year, which had a shorter promotional window. In its most recent earnings call, Apple said it anticipated what could be its strongest December quarter on record.
Huawei recorded the steepest decline among major brands, with its share dropping to 13% from 17% a year ago. Its new flagship Mate 80 launched too late to participate meaningfully in the festival. Xiaomi held the second-largest share with 17%, though its sales also declined year-over-year due to the earlier release timing of the Xiaomi 17 series.Tags: China, CounterpointThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Apple and Intel Rumored to Partner on Mac Chips Again in a New Way While all Macs are now powered by Apple's custom-designed chips, a new rumor claims that Apple may rekindle its partnership with Intel, albeit in a new and limited way.
Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today said Intel is expected to begin shipping Apple's lowest-end M-series chip as early as mid-2027.
If this rumor proves to be accurate, Intel could supply Apple with M6 or M7 chips for future MacBook Air, iPad Air, and iPad Pro models at a minimum. However, while previous Intel chips for Macs were designed by Intel and based on x86 architecture, M-series chips are designed by Apple and use Arm architecture. Intel would only assist with manufacturing.
TSMC would continue to supply the majority of Apple's M-series chips.
Kuo said that Apple choosing to have Intel supply its lowest-end M-series chip would appease the Trump administration's desire for "Made in USA" products, and it would also help Apple to diversify its supply chain for manufacturing.
Apple began transitioning away from Intel processors in Macs in 2020, and its own M-series chips continue to provide industry-leading performance per watt.Tags: Apple Silicon, Intel, Ming-Chi KuoThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Ever wonder what malware macOS can detect and remove without help from third-party software? Apple continuously adds new malware detection rules to Mac’s built-in XProtect suite. Apple Pay Supporting the Fight Against AIDS This Week — Here's How Apple has announced that it will again donate $5 to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for every purchase made using Apple Pay on Apple.com, through the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store in the U.S. and many other countries from today through December 7. Apple's donation this year will be capped at $3 million.
The Global Fund is a public-private partnership that aims to combat diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria throughout the developing world. Apple says that its annual donation will "help fund critical health programs that save lives."
Apple runs this donation campaign ahead of World AIDS Day on December 1 each year.
Apple has supported The Global Fund for 19 years through its partnership with the (RED) brand, co-founded by U2 singer Bono. However, Apple no longer offers any devices in the charitable (PRODUCT)RED color, so the partnership feels less prominent now. How to get Adobe’s Black Friday price if you’re an existing customer
Adobe’s Black Friday deal isn’t available for existing customers, though in the past we have found that beginning the subscription cancellation process can sometimes prompt Adobe to offer a discount or additional months for free to entice users to stay.
If you already have an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription that is due to increase in price in the next few months—say you got the deal last year—or is already priced higher than the latest deal, it may be worth contacting Adobe’s customer service to cancel so you can jump on the new, cheaper Black Friday deal.
Sometimes they will just move you over to the new price without you having to cancel.
The process is simple. Sign into your Adobe CC account and click on “Manage Account”. Here you’ll see your current plan price. Most plans last 12 months, so if that deal is coming up or you are already on a price higher than the Black Friday deal, ask Adobe to switch you over straight away.
The simplest way is to use the Chat service. A Chat speech bubble icon should be in the lower right-hand corner of the webpage. If not, Adobe suggest you cange your browser. After signing in again, scroll down to the bottom to “Start chat”. Explain what you want to do (cancel your current plan and move to the new price) and the Adobe representative will guide you through the process.
Even easier, if you’ve had the account for a few years, is just to ask if you can change to the new Black Friday price. When they say it’s for new customers only, say that you don’t want to go through the whole cancellation process just to get the new price, so could the agent assist you in doing it without cancelling your account.
We’d suggest giving that a shot and seeing how far you get—good luck!

EU to Target Apple Maps and Apple Ads Next The EU has begun looking into whether Apple Maps and Apple Ads should be designated as "gatekeepers" and subject to greater regulation (via Reuters).
The App Store, iOS, and Safari were classified as gatekeepers two years ago, triggering strict requirements in the EU such as support for alternative app marketplaces and third-party payment options. Under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), any platform with more than 45 million monthly active EU users and a market valuation above €75 billion is presumed to be a gatekeeper, subject to obligations designed to curb self-preferencing and increase interoperability.
The European Commission has now confirmed that Apple Maps and Apple Ads satisfy the user-base thresholds that mandate a review. Regulators now have 45 working days to decide whether either service should formally join Apple's existing list of designated platforms. If confirmed, Apple would then have six months to bring each service into full DMA compliance.
Apple has apparently already submitted formal rebuttals arguing that the criteria should not apply. The company argues that Apple Ads represents only a "minimal share" of the EU online advertising market, especially compared to dominant players such as Google, Meta, TikTok, Microsoft, and X. Apple also insists that its advertising business neither relies on cross-service data privileges nor exerts the level of market influence implied by the DMA thresholds.
The company is making similar arguments regarding Apple Maps, claiming that the service has "very limited usage" in the EU relative to Google Maps and Waze. Apple says Maps does not provide the kind of "critical intermediation functionality" that would allow it to act as a dominant gateway between businesses and consumers.
A gatekeeper designation for Apple Ads could have significant consequences. Compliance may require Apple to loosen restrictions introduced under App Tracking Transparency, provide interoperability for third-party ad networks, or eliminate any perceived self-preferencing advantages.
For Maps, it is unclear what specific operational changes the DMA might require, but obligations could include expanded third-party access or reducing any privileged integrations within the system. iOS 18.4 already enabled the ability to change the default maps app from Apple Maps to alternatives like Google Maps or Waze in the EU.Tags: Apple Antitrust, Apple Ads, Apple Maps, Europe, European Commission, European UnionThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Suspicious behavior prompts concerns about ‘hackers’ on Apple Podcasts app Macworld
Apple has worked hard to build a reputation for security and privacy: using iOS or macOS, the company has led us to believe, makes it much harder for hackers and other bad actors to steal our data or gain access to our accounts. But that doesn’t mean Apple platforms are immune to malicious attacks, and it looks like the company’s Podcasts app could be experiencing one at the moment.
One reporter, Joseph Cox of 404 Media, has observed a suspicious pattern of behavior on Podcasts that’s been going on, he says, for months. The app, on both iOS and macOS, spontaneously opens podcasts with odd names and odd contents.
“[The] app will open religion, spirituality, and education podcasts with no apparent rhyme or reason,” he writes. “Sometimes, I unlock my machine and the podcast app has launched itself and presented one of the bizarre podcasts to me.”
The podcasts are often years old, and in many cases their titles are nonsensical and stuffed with suspicious URLs. Some of them have no audio content at all. Worse, the page for at least one of these podcasts contains a link to a potentially malicious website.
Cox isn’t the only person to raise concerns. One very recent review of a six-year-old podcast, he notes, says “Scam. How does Apple allow this attempted XSS attack?” This category of attack matches the suspicious link and redirect Cox spotted in one of the spontaneously launched podcasts. The reporter also spoke to the security expert Patrick Wardle, who was able to verify the phenomenon.
“I have replicated similar behavior,” Wardle writes, “albeit via a website: simply visiting a website is enough to trigger Podcasts to open (and [to] load a podcast of the attacker’s choosing), and unlike other external app launches on macOS (e.g. Zoom), no prompt or user approval is required.”
As Cox emphasises, the behavior is more weird than truly troubling; Wardle describes it as hackers “actively evaluating the Podcasts app as a potential target,” implying that we are yet to experience real danger, but could do so in the future. Cox says he’s alerted Apple multiple times, but the company has yet to respond. We hope it’s quietly preparing a fix or defence against attacks via this new vector.

Editor’s note: The Keychron Q1 HE is on sale for $192 at Amazon, a savings of $48 off its $240 MSRP.
I recently reviewed the Lemokey L1 HE, an excellent mechanical keyboard full of gamer-specific features. What if you’re not interested in gaming or are put off by the L1 HE’s garish, in-your-face aesthetic? Well, Lemokey’s parent company, Keychron, has another option in the form of the Keychron Q1 HE QMK, and it’s a superb device with quality touches everywhere you look.
Gone are the gaudy key legends and transparent caps, replaced by a far more refined look and feel that should complement your Apple gear nicely. Yet it loses almost none of the Lemokey’s high-end features and rock-solid build quality, and it even has a few perks of its own.
Take the Keychron Q1 HE out of its box and its heft is unmistakable. It weighed in at a beefy 1.74kg according to my scales–combined with the small rubber feet on the underside, that weight means it isn’t going to slip around on your desk any time soon.
The metal case is made from 6063 aluminum, and its quality stands up to inspection. There’s no bending or flexing anywhere, just a solid chunk of metal that should take its fair share of bumps and bruises without an issue.
There are two color options to choose from: Carbon Black (black case and white, black and red keycaps); and Shell White, (white case and white, black and green caps). I was sent a Carbon Black unit, and it looks beautiful in a simple, understated way.
The Q1 HE also looks absolutely gorgeous when its south-facing RGB lights are aglow. There are 24 customizable presets to choose from, most of them subtle, tasteful, and a far cry from the glaring “gamer” aesthetic. Set against the white keycaps and black chassis, the effect is quite lovely.
The only quibble I had with the lighting is that the Caps Lock indicator is extremely difficult to see. When pressed, it changes the key’s underside backlighting from RGB to white. Yet you can only really see this from directly above, thanks to the chunky keycaps surrounding the Caps Lock key, and you’re unlikely to be typing from a bird’s eye view. A clearer indicator would be an improvement. (Some apps display a Caps Lock icon when that button is active, so you could rely on that, but it’s not a system-wide display.)
The Q1 HE offers a 75 percent layout, which features a compact design that chops off a few keys that you might not need (the numpad, the End key, and a few more). I personally prefer an 80 percent layout (also known as tenkeyless) and found myself reaching for an End key that was frustratingly absent. The compactness is also undercut somewhat by the keyboard’s weight, which makes it less portable than you might expect from a board of its size.
The knob is set to sound volume by default and can be customized.Alex Blake/Foundry
The keycaps are made from double-shot PBT plastic, which has a very lightly textured feel and is resistant to finger oils, so you shouldn’t see any smudges showing up (unlike what I noticed with some of the Lemokey L1 HE’s caps). The double-shot nature means that the key legends are made from separate pieces of plastic, so they will never wear off. Keychron uses a sloped OSA profile, which is comfortable in use.
In the top-right corner, you’ll find a knob that can be rolled and clicked in, and it’s set to adjust your computer’s volume by default. This can be changed using Keychron’s web app (to adjust RGB backlighting level, for example). It’s made of solid, textured metal and feels thoroughly well-made.
Around the back is a toggle to flip between Windows and macOS key layouts. This ensures keys are where you expect them to be–so that the key labeled Option actually works like an Option key, which it doesn’t in Windows mode. This switch is a great addition if you regularly use both macOS and Windows devices during the day. Keychron has included both macOS and Windows keycaps in the box, too, alongside a heap of extras, including a keycap and switch puller, a screwdriver and screws, an Allen key, and more.
Next to the macOS/Windows switch is another to move between Bluetooth 5.2, wired, and 2.4GHz modes (note that you get a 1,000Hz polling rate in wired and 2.4GHz modes, but only 90Hz with Bluetooth 5.2). This switch enables you to connect to multiple devices at once, if you like. The Bluetooth 5.2 connection itself can hook up to three different devices, and you move between them with a quick keyboard shortcut. It means there are plenty of connectivity options, should you need them.
Switch between Mac and Windows, and even between wireless connections.Alex Blake/Foundry
What you don’t get, though, is height adjustment. The Keychron Q1 HE has four tiny rubber feet on its underside, but no way to raise it up or tweak its typing angle. I didn’t find it to be too much of an issue–the angle was comfortable enough for me–but that won’t work for everyone. Perhaps its weight makes it too heavy for flip-out feet, but there are other ways to add height adjustment to a keyboard.
At this price, a wrist rest would be a welcome inclusion, but there’s no such luck here. While it’s a minor point, it’s still slightly disappointing.
First-rate typing feel
Type on the Keychron Q1 HE and you’ll notice one thing right away: it’s incredibly quiet. Keychron has stuffed it with an acoustic pad and sound-absorbing foam, wrapped up in a gasket-mount design, all of which combine to make the keyboard whisper-quiet and supremely comfortable. Any sounds that do emerge are pleasing to the ear, with a soft, creamy feel that won’t disturb your coworkers.
Aside from the sound, the typing feel is incredibly important with any mechanical keyboard. I normally prefer tactile switches–which provide a small physical “bump” with each key press–to smooth linear switches. The unit I reviewed came with Gateron’s linear Nebula switches, though, yet they feel extremely comfortable in use. There’s enough weight behind each key press to prevent “bottoming out” (where you push too hard and the key hits the board’s chassis) and the resultant finger fatigue and aching. I could type at my usual quick pace, more or less without issue.
Keychron includes tools for swapping out the keys.Alex Blake/Foundry
They’re not the lightest switches in the world, though, and unfortunately, they’re the only ones Keychron offers with the Q1 HE. Luckily, Keychron has made the switches hot-swappable, so you can swap them out with other switches that might suit you better, but they must be Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic switches sold on the Keychron website in order to be compatible.
Speaking of which, the HE in the Keychron Q1 HE’s name refers to its magnetic Hall effect switches. These actuate each key press using electromagnetic fields rather than a physical mechanism, which should help prolong their life in the long run. I didn’t have the Q1 HE long enough to be able to properly test that, but it’s a welcome feature to have regardless. The board also passed my n-key rollover test with flying colors.
The magnetic switches enable some neat additions in terms of customization. Using Keychron’s web app, you can adjust each key’s actuation point so that it requires more or less force to register a press; enable rapid trigger mode, which lets you repeatedly press keys without fully letting go of them; and more. There’s even a tool to program up to four actions with one keystroke.
Although the Q1 HE isn’t marketed as a gaming keyboard, it holds up pretty well during gameplay, with features like the aforementioned rapid trigger mode adding to its arsenal. You might prefer lighter switches that can be pressed more quickly if you play a lot of shooters, but it gives a good account of itself in casual games.
Compared to the Lemokey L1 HE, though, the Q1 HE is missing a few gamer-specific features. That includes Last Keystroke Prioritization and Snap Click, both of which manage what happens when two keys are pressed at once. You’ll also miss out on Analog Mode, which enables your keys to work like a controller’s joysticks and measure nuanced presses rather than simple on/off inputs. That means that while the Keychron Q1 HE stands up to a lot of gaming scrutiny, it’s not the decked-out tool that the pros might be looking for.
As for battery life, after 36 hours of usage, the Q1 HE went from 97 to 18 percent in Bluetooth 5.2 mode with the RGB backlighting at maximum brightness, a drop of 79 percent. It automatically turned the RGB lighting off at 20 percent, so you might be able to eke out that final fifth for longer than if the lighting is at full blast. Keychron told us the Q1 HE should last for anywhere between 35 and 50 hours with the backlighting, or up to 100 hours with the lighting off. The results I got seem roughly in line with that, although it is a wide ballpark figure that Keychron provided.
Should you buy the Keychron Q1 HE?
Its quiet, smooth typing feel and premium construction make the Keychron Q1 HE QMK an attractive option for both typists and gamers, while its extra features (its macOS/Windows toggle, hot-swappable switches, etc.) mean there’s plenty more under the hood. The top-tier build quality and Hall effect keys provide reassurance that it should stand the test of time, which makes its price tag more palatable.

PSA: Apple's Podcasts App May Be Enabling Malicious Content Delivery Security researchers have identified suspicious activity in Apple's Podcasts app that could be used to deliver malicious content to users, based on a report by 404Media's Joseph Cox.
Cox's report describes some odd experiences with the Podcasts app that certainly suggest something untoward is going on across both iOS and macOS versions. He says that over recent months, the app has automatically launched and displayed unusual podcasts without his input. On Mac and iPhone, the app has opened religion, spirituality, and education podcasts for no apparent reason, in some cases even launching themselves the moment Cox unlocked his device.
The podcasts in question often feature strange titles containing code fragments, URLs, and in some cases, attempts at cross-site scripting attacks.
Objective-See security expert Patrick Wardle told Cox he was able to replicate similar behavior, but in his case via a website. "Simply visiting a website is enough to trigger Podcasts to open (and load a podcast of the attacker's choosing), and unlike other external app launches on macOS, no prompt or user approval is required," Wardle told 404 Media.
One particularly concerning podcast apparently includes a link that redirects to a site attempting an XSS attack – a technique in which attackers inject malicious code into otherwise legitimate-looking websites. When visited, the site displays a pop-up acknowledging the XSS attempt.
Wardle notes that while this behavior isn't immediately dangerous on its own, it creates an effective delivery mechanism if vulnerabilities do exist within the Podcasts app. "The level of probing shows that adversaries are actively evaluating the Podcasts app as a potential target," he said.
The situation bears similarities to reports of Google Calendar spam from several years ago, where bad actors would add unsolicited events containing links or promotional content to users' calendars.
Apple did not respond to Cox's multiple requests for comment about the issue. Has the Podcasts app exhibited similar unusual behaviour in your experience? Let us know in the comments.Tags: Apple Podcasts, SecurityThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

How we choose these iPhone deals
We track prices at major U.S. and U.K. retailers and carriers and feature the best deals on current models (no old iPhones) that at least match Apple’s own Black Friday offer (up to $75/£60 gift card with the iPhone 16, or $50/£40 with iPhone 16e).
We only feature deals from trusted retailers and carriers, and ensure we read the fine print so there aren’t any tricks.
The deals are reviewed often to make sure they are still available, with expired or sold-out models annotated or removed.

Best U.S. iPhone carrier deals for Black Friday 2025
In the U.S., most of the deals come from carriers and carry a bunch of strings—trade-in requirements, new lines, and discounts offered as bill credits over two or three years:
AT&T: You can get up to $1,100 off the iPhone 17 Pro when you trade in an eligible iPhone. The savings transform into monthly credits on your bill for the next 36 months.
T-Mobile: The carrier offers the iPhone 17 or iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone Air for free if you either switch to T-Mobile or trade in a qualifying phone, as long as you’re on a qualifying Experience Beyond plan. The phone is paid through 24 monthly bill credits.
Verizon: Get an iPhone 17 or iPhone 17 Pro free with trade in and certain Unlimited plans. This phone is paid through 36 monthly bill credits.
U.S. Cellular: Up to $1,100 off iPhone 17 Pro (or any other iPhone) with a new line and qualifying plan. This phone is paid through 36 monthly bill credits.
Xfinity Mobile: If you trade in a qualifying phone you can get up to $1,100 off a new iPhone 17 series model until Dec. 2. Paid as 24 monthly bill credits with a 24-month contract.
Boost Mobile: You can get $850 off the price of the iPhone 17 with Boost’s $65 per month plan.

David Price / Foundry
These are Apple’s iPhone deals for Black Friday:
£60 gift card with iPhone 16 or 16 Plus
£40 gift card with iPhone 16e
In the U.K., there are fewer limitations on the sale of iPhones, so you will be able to pick one up unlocked at a discount if you would prefer to buy an iPhone up front, rather than on a contract.
As long as you don’t mind the fact that this iPhone only has one rear camera, we recommend the £100 off iPhone 16e deal at Amazon, in particular the £599 deal on the 256GB model. The newest iPhone to get a cut-price deal is the iPhone Air, which has £30 off.
Also be on the look out for deals (like this one from AO) on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max which are no longer sold by Apple but would offer a good option to those who appreciate the extra camera on the Pro iPhone models but can’t stretch to the iPhone 17 Pro.
Amazon, iPhone Air (256GB): £899 (£100 off, RRP £999)
Amazon, iPhone 16e (128GB): £499 (£100 off, RRP £599)
Amazon, iPhone 16e (256GB): £599 (£100 off, RRP £699)
Amazon, iPhone 16e (512GB): £799 (£100 off, RRP £899)
AO, iPhone 16 (128GB): £644 (£55 off, RRP £699)
AO, iPhone 16 Pro (128GB): £899 (£100 off, RRP was £999)
Apple, £60 gift voucher with iPhone 16 or 16 Plus
Apple, £40 gift voucher with iPhone 16e
We’d suggest that when it comes to the other deals you should weigh them up against Apple’s own giveaway, where you could get £60 or £40 vouchers with the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, or iPhone 16e, respectively. For example, £100 off an iPhone 16e is better than Apple’s £40 voucher, but AO’s £55 off iPhone 16 (128GB) doesn’t match Apple’s £60 voucher deal so it would be worth waiting to see it that goes lower.
How to get the best iPhone deals for Black Friday 2025: Our Advice
Apple is offering a $75/£60 gift card with the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, and $50/£40 with the iPhone 16e, you should make sure that any offers you see beat those prices.
Black Friday can be a good time to get a deal on an older iPhone, such as the iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max which are now discontinued. These will be worth grabbing if you see them at a good price.
iPhone 17: Apple only launched the iPhone 17 lineup in September so we don’t expect to see big discounts, other than the typical “free iPhone as bill credits over several years with a qualifying plan” deals that are always on offer in the U.S.
iPhone 16: Shoppers should look out for discounts on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, but note that Apple has already cut prices by $100/£100. Also note that Apple no longer sells the 512GB versions of these handsets, so if you find those models on sale at a good price we recommend buying them. Similarly, if you see the now discontinued, iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max on sale at a good price then these would be a good purchase.
iPhone 16e: The price of the iPhone 16e will likely drop. This is Apple’s ‘budget’ handset so it already has a low price though so don’t expect huge additional savings.
We don’t recommend any iPhones older than the ones above, especially not the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus which are not Apple Intelligence compatible.

Does Apple discount iPhones for Black Friday?
Rather than discount its products, every year Apple holds a shopping event from Black Friday to Cyber Monday. Apple’s Black Friday ‘deal’ takes the form of gift card offers, rather than actual savings. This year, you can get an iPhone 16 or 16 Plus with a gift card worth $75/£60, or an iPhone 16e with a gift card worth $50/£40.
The deals over the past few years show that Apple’s offer this year is right in line with the offers from previous years.
We recommend the deal, especially in the U.S. where iPhones don’t tend to get price cuts. For U.K. readers the Apple voucher prices are a good indication as to how much money off an iPhone would be considered a good deal.

The EU may be about to increase regulation on Apple Maps and the company’s ads business Regulation enforcement against Apple in the EU may be about to intensify. Under the Digital Markets Act rules, the company must notify the EU commission about services that reach the thresholds for so-called gatekeeper status, targeting big tech services with more than 45 million active users in Europe.
As it is obliged, Apple informed the EU that Apple Maps and Apple Ads meet that level. The commission now has 45 days to decide whether Maps and the company’s ad businesses are sufficiently monopolistic to warrant a step up in regulation.
