Check Out These Fun New Apple Cash Stickers in the Messages App Apple today updated its Apple Cash feature to introduce a set of stickers that can be used in the Messages app. The stickers are Apple Cash themed, featuring emoji that you might want to use when sending or receiving a payment.
Each sticker is animated, and has an iridescent texture that gives a glinting effect as the sticker moves.
The Apple Cash stickers are rolling out to users starting today. You can find them by opening up the Messages app and selecting a conversation, then tapping on the "+" button next to the text bar. From there, tap on the "Stickers" option and swipe over to Apple Cash.
Apple Cash stickers will show up in the Messages Sticker list automatically, and there is no option to download them from the Sticker App Store. The stickers also aren't able to be removed, because Apple Cash is not an app that can be uninstalled. We absolutely adored this Anker charger and gave it a 4.5-star rating and our Editors’ Choice award, praising not just the elegant stand and smart display, but also the fact that it all comes with a 65W wall charger. The main MagSafe puck delivers 25W ultra-fast wireless charging, capable of charging your iPhone 17 Pro to 50 percent in just 22 minutes, while the magnetic Watch charger ensures you can see and charge it while you work. Then you can rest your AirPods case on the base. Tidy and neat!

There are several modes to cycle through, from “Ice Mode” that maximizes cooling for active use, to “Boost Mode” that prioritizes charging speed, and “Sleep Mode” which dims the display and quiets the cooling system for overnight charging.

Apple's Pro Display XDR Is Six Years Old Today The Pro Display XDR is six years old today, making it one of the oldest Apple products still on sale.
Released on December 10, 2019 alongside the redesigned Mac Pro, the Pro Display XDR was Apple's re-entry into the high-end external monitor market, following a three-year hiatus after discontinuing the Thunderbolt Display in 2016. The announcement came at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2019, where the company presented the display as a rival to traditional reference monitors. The XDR in its name stands for "Extreme Dynamic Range," a feature that Apple emphasized as a key differentiator from other high-resolution monitors available at the time.
It features a 32-inch Retina display with a 6K resolution of 6,016 by 3,384 pixels, powered by Apple's proprietary LED backlighting system. Apple utilized blue-colored LEDs with custom lenses and reflectors to achieve a maximum brightness of up to 1,600 nits in HDR mode, while sustaining 1,000 nits across the entire screen indefinitely. This allows for what Apple describes as "stunningly accurate colors and contrast," supporting the P3 wide color gamut and delivering a claimed 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
The rear of the display features the same lattice pattern used on the 2019 Mac Pro, which functions as a heatsink to aid thermal management. The display is also available with matte nano-texture glass to cut down on glare—the first Apple product it's featured on.
Upon its release, the Pro Display XDR garnered significant attention for its high price. In the United States, the display starts at $4,999, and users who opt for the adjustable Pro Stand must pay an additional $999. The Pro Stand, which is sold separately, was met with mixed reactions upon its unveiling. Apple justified the cost by highlighting the engineering involved, with the Pro Stand offering height, tilt, and rotation adjustments, as well as support for both landscape and portrait modes. A VESA mount adapter is also available for those who prefer third-party mounting solutions.
As of its sixth anniversary, the Pro Display XDR remains one of only two external monitors sold by Apple, alongside the Studio Display, which was released in March 2022. Unlike the Pro Display XDR, the Studio Display comes with an integrated A13 Bionic chip, enabling features such as Center Stage for its built-in webcam, spatial audio, and support for Siri voice commands. The Pro Display XDR, however, has no webcam or any internal Apple silicon chip.
Speculation about a second-generation Pro Display XDR has been circulating for some time. In December 2022, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple was working on an updated version of the display, this time with an Apple silicon chip to enhance its capabilities. In July 2023, Gurman reiterated that Apple was still developing multiple new displays. Display supply chain analyst Ross Young added that the next-generation Pro Display XDR will feature quantum dot technology, just like the MacBook Pro.
Evidence of Apple's work on new external monitors has been spotted multiple times. The third beta of macOS 26.1 suggests that the Pro Display XDR 2 will feature a built-in Center Stage camera. The A19 Pro chip is also a possibility, along with a higher refresh rate.Related Roundups: Apple Pro Display XDR, Apple Studio DisplayRelated Forum: Mac AccessoriesThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Tired of modern life and yearning for the old days when a phone was a phone and not a computer full of tempting apps and beeping notifications? Frustrated by a cricked neck or strained wrist from doing all your talking on a thin rectangular slab of metal and glass, or dreaming of the ergonomic delight of a phone with proper ear and mouth pieces that nestles to the side of your head?
One of Macworld’s favorite Apple accessory makers Native Union has relaunched the vintage phone handset—it works with today’s devices to make comfortable calls feel like proper conversations again.
Simon Jary
Forget you’re on an iPhone
The POP Phone is big and chunky and available in a range of bold colors that bring personality back to making phone calls.
With it in hand you won’t be tempted by modern day distractions such as doom scrolling, checking the sports results, Facebook Reels, TikTok videos or the latest Instagram posts. Think about the person you’re talking to, not the device they have contacted you on.
Simon Jary
Made with recycled materials, the POP Phone also keeps your phone away from your face and so reduces exposure to 99% of mobile radiation, claims Native Union. We don’t know the science behind such claims but holding a device up to your face for long periods of time isn’t ever going to be a health benefit.
Native Union
Not just an iPhone gadget
The USB-C connection plugs straight into your iPhone (15 or later), MacBook or iPad. You don’t need to pair or even charge the thing. As it’s USB-C it will work only with iPhones 15 or later; older iPhones use Apple’s Lightning connector. The same goes for older iPads, but you have to go back ten years to find a Mac without a USB-C or compatible Thunderbolt port.
Because you’re talking right into the mic and listening with the speaker to your ear, the sound quality is clear in both directions. The person on the other end of the call won’t even know you’re using it unless you are on a Zoom, Teams or FaceTime video call when they can marvel at your retro gadget. It’s a guaranteed meeting ice-breaker.
Simon Jary
In the handset arm there’s a built-in pick up and hang up button, so you never need to touch your phone’s screen. We’d love it even more if there was a dock that you could put the handset in to physically hang up, which is a more exciting way to end a call than just tapping on the touchscreen.
The POP Phone is way more tactile than touchscreens, and the smooth plastic body feels great against your ear—you can even twiddle with the curly cord while you’re talking. In fact, you can’t help doing it.
You’re unlikely to carry the POP Phone around in your pocket or handbag for every call you make, but it’s fun to use and makes people stop and stare in nostalgic envy or just plain Gen Z confusion.
Native Union
Price
The Native Union POP Phone costs $39.99 / £34.99 and makes a great gift to a friend or yourself. It’s also available at Amazon.
It’s available in a range of eight colors: Black, Alarm Red, Pine, Sandstone, Lemon, Candy, Azur and Slate Green.
For other great gift ideas, check our Gift Guide for iPhone Users and Gift Guide for Mac users.
Native Union
Should you buy the Native Union POP Phone?
When you see this piece of vintage tech, you’ll either be young enough to be curious about what the hell it is and question why something has to be this big, or want one immediately to transport yourself back to the 1960s, 70s and 80s when phones only looked smart.

Apple Faces Scrutiny as Sanctioned Entities Slip Through App Store Controls Apple's App Store has been unlawfully hosting dozens of apps tied to U.S.-sanctioned companies, according to a new watchdog report (via The Washington Post).
The Tech Transparency Project, a non-profit advocacy group, flagged 52 apps in the App Store that had links to entities found on the Treasury Department's list of Specially Designated Nationals (SDNs), a designation that prohibits U.S. companies from doing business with them.
Linked organisations included Russian financial institutions such as Gazprombank and National Standard Bank propping up Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, and China's Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC), which has been sanctioned for involvement in repression of Uyghur minorities. Another app was run by a company owned by an accused Lithuanian drug trafficker.
The linked entities reportedly used name variants, shell developers, or partial references to obscure their sanctions status.
Google's Play Store was also found to be hosting 18 apps for similarly sanctioned organizations. Google took down all but one of the apps after being contacted by The Post. Apple removed 35 out of 52 during or after the investigation. Apple disputed that all the flagged apps violate sanctions, but said it was enhancing its review process.
Apple previously committed to improving sanctions detection after a 2019 Treasury settlement involving a naming-variation failure.
According to The Post, the Treasury could have fined Apple more than $70 million at the time, but said it accepted a settlement of less than $1 million because Apple had self-reported, had not had a violation in the preceding five years, and promised to revamp its sanction search tools "to fully capture spelling and capitalization variations and to account for country-specific business suffixes."
Legal experts say that prior agreement increases Apple's exposure now, since the latest similar lapses suggest its promised improvements were insufficient. The findings also call into question Apple's long-standing claim that its App Store provides a "safe and trusted" environment for users. This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Unleash your iPhone’s Action button with these 7 creative shortcuts Macworld
When Apple introduced the iPhone 15 Pro, it retired the classic mute switch which had been part of the iPhone design since the very first model. These days, all iPhones feature a customizable Action button, which users can freely remap to various different actions. Some of the default actions include muting the iPhone, toggling a Focus mode, launching the Camera app, recognizing a song, recording audio, and translating speech.
While these actions are sufficient for many users, the pros may find them lackluster. Fortunately, iOS supports deeper customizations through Apple’s Shortcuts app, allowing the Action button to perform a practically infinite number of tasks. Once you understand the logic behind the feature, you should be able to build and assign any desired shortcut.
Generic Control Center toggles
If you find the built-in Shortcuts app too complex, you can settle for Control Center toggles instead. While not as flexible, they include some useful first- and third-party functions you can assign to the Action button, beyond Apple’s default suggestions.
This is a good place to start.Mahmoud Itani / Foundry
Simply head to the Action Button section in the Settings app and scroll horizontally to reach the Controls option. Tap on Choose a Control to view a full list of available toggles you can use with the Action button. Some of the popular actions include toggling Dark mode, playing ambient music, starting a Quick Note, and launching the Calculator. Depending on the apps you’ve installed, you’ll also find other actions provided by third-party developers.
Once you’ve chosen a toggle, iOS will complete the desired task whenever you push and hold the Action button.
Summon AI assistants
Siri is far from being a reliable virtual assistant, especially when it comes to maintaining longer conversations. Thankfully, you can assign a third-party AI assistant to the Action button to mimic Siri’s Side button shortcut.
First, you’ll need to download the official Gemini app. (Or, if you’re not keen on Google’s AI, you can alternatively use the feature with other popular chatbot apps—like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.) Once installed and signed in, you’ll find new toggles in the Controls list mentioned in the previous section. Some of Gemini’s bundled shortcuts include typing a prompt, talking live, scanning with the camera, uploading a file, and more. Assign the functionality you typically rely on, and it’ll always be one Action button click away from initiation.
Gemini is now only one click away.Mahmoud Itani / Foundry
Unlock your car
The Action button doesn’t necessarily have to control your iPhone. If you’ve got a newer car, chances are it offers a companion iOS app you can use to unlock, start, or adjust it. Many vehicle manufacturers have baked these capabilities into the built-in Shortcuts app, making them compatible with the Action button.
Launch the Shortcuts app and tap on the plus (+) button to create a new shortcut. Scroll through the list of apps in the shortcut builder and locate your car’s companion app. Tap on it to view the available actions compatible with your model. Pick the one you need the most, then save the shortcut.
This is where you create new shortcuts.Mahmoud Itani / Foundry
Head to the Action Button section in the Settings app and scroll horizontally to find the Shortcut option. Tap on Choose a Shortcut, and pick the one you just created. Triggering the Action button will now control your car the way you’ve specified.
Smart home switch
Similarly, the Action button can control certain smart home products, such as lights, via the Shortcuts app. In the shortcut creation flow described above, locate the Home app. If you simply want to turn a light on or off, opt for the Toggle Accessory or Scene action and pick the relevant HomeKit bulb. For deeper controls, you can opt for the Control Home action instead, which, for example, lets you specify the color and intensity of the light, not just toggle it on or off.
It’s like having a light switch on the side of your phone.Mahmoud Itani / Foundry
Once you’ve completed setting up and saving the shortcut, you can assign it to the Action button as outlined in the previous section.
Call your partner
Remember the speed dial feature from the prehistoric Nokia phone era? You can replicate it using your iPhone’s Action button. To do so, create a new shortcut, pick Phone from the list of apps, and insert the Call action. Choose your partner’s contact card, save the shortcut, and assign it to the Action button. Et voilà!
This is for illustrative purposes only. We don’t recommend creating a shortcut to your own number.Mahmoud Itani / Foundry
Multiple actions
Now, you may be thinking that some of these use cases are quite niche, and that it doesn’t make sense for them to occupy the Action button’s sole function slot. Luckily, there’s a workaround for this: the toolbox approach.
Create a new shortcut, navigate to the Shortcuts app in the creation flow, and add the Run Shortcut action. In the action’s options, set the blank space to Ask Each Time. You can now head to the Action button’s settings again and assign the newly created shortcut. Whenever you trigger it, it’ll display a list of your other shortcuts, and you can tap on any of them to execute the needed task on the spot. As such, you can assign all of the above-mentioned shortcuts simultaneously to the Action button.
With this option activated, you’ll be given the choice of multiple shortcuts.Mahmoud Itani / Foundry
Conditional shortcuts
While it works, the toolbox approach can be overwhelming if you’ve created a lot of shortcuts. What if there was a smarter way to incorporate multiple tasks into the Action button, without having to manually pick a shortcut from the all-encompassing list?
When you’re outdoors, for example, you likely won’t need to access your smart home shortcuts. With conditional shortcuts, you can program the Action button to react to your location and proceed with a specific task accordingly.
Create a new shortcut, then search for and add the Get current location action. Add the If action, change the default Latitude selection to Street, and type your home street name in the blank space at the end.
Add a Run Shortcut action under the If action, and select the smart home shortcut you created earlier. If you usually call your partner when you’re away from home, add another Run Shortcut action under Otherwise, and select the speed dial shortcut. When done, assign the conditional shortcut to the Action button.
This is a simple example of a conditional shortcut. They can get way more complicated.Mahmoud Itani / Foundry
Now, when you trigger the Action button, it’ll first check your current location using your iPhone’s GPS. If the street you’re currently at matches your home address, it’ll automatically toggle your smart home appliance. If not, it’ll proceed with calling your partner.
This is just one basic example of how powerful conditional shortcuts can be. You can create if statements that detect your current activity for running-related shortcuts. Similarly, you can set the Action button to perform specific tasks depending on the app you have in the foreground, the phone’s orientation, the battery level, or other factors. You even nest multiple if statements to create a comprehensive shortcut that adapts to everything you do. It may take you some time to get there, but it’s technically possible.

Spotify Rolls Out Music Videos to Premium Users in US and Canada Spotify has announced music videos are rolling out now to Premium users in the U.S. and Canada, though the feature remains in beta.
The catalog currently includes music videos from artists like Ariana Grande, Olivia Dean, BABYMONSTER, Addison Rae, Tyler Childers, Natanael Cano, and Carín León.
Spotify says the initial video catalog is "limited" for now while the feature is in beta, but asks users to "stay tuned" as availability is set to grow "over the coming months."
If you're a Premium subscriber and want to check out music videos, open Spotify on you TV, desktop, iOS, or Android device, and a "Switch to Video" icon will appear above the song title in supported music tracks. Tapping starts the song from the beginning with accompanying video within the Now Playing view, which can also be rotated to landscape orientation on iPhone and Android.
To find additional music videos – including live and cover videos – scroll down to explore Related Music Videos, or go to an artist's profile and look under the Music tab. You can also watch by genre and era via playlists like 90s Video Hits, Hip-Hop Throwbacks, and Latin Party Hits.
Spotify first announced beta support for music videos back in March 2024, but the feature was limited to 11 markets including the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya.
In October, Spotify released a redesigned app for Apple TV that supports music videos, which had by then expanded to 97 countries around the world. Spotify says music videos will be available to all Premium users in the U.S. and Canada by the end of the month.
Previously, video content on Spotify has been limited to video podcasts and short repeating music video clips when a song plays. Apple Music has included its own music video catalog for almost seven years now. The feature was introduced with the release of iOS 11.3 in March 2018.

iOS 26.2’s small tweaks add up to a big update for your iPhone–here’s what’s new Macworld
iOS 26.2 will soon be available to download on your iPhone, and while the update isn’t a major overhaul, it brings numerous changes and refinements, including more Liquid Glass tweaks. More importantly, iOS 26.2 brings a series of minor new features throughout the system that will surprise and delight iPhone users.
Here are all the new iOS 26.2 features you’ll want to check out right away:
Liquid Glass Lock Screen slider
After listening to user feedback, Apple added a new option to iOS 26.1 that lets users choose between the traditional Liquid Glass look and a “Tinted” mode that makes everything more frosted. Now with iOS 26.2, there’s also a similar adjustment for the clock on the Lock Screen.
Thanks to a new slider in the Lock Screen options, users can adjust the transparency of the clock to make it more or less “Liquid.” The option to make the clock completely solid remains, and users can still choose between different colors.
iOS 26.2 lets you adjust the Liquid Glass intensity on the Lock Screen.Foundry
Liquid Glass Measure app
Apple continues expanding its new design language across the system, and the Measure app is the latest to get the Liquid Glass treatment. With iOS 26.2, the app’s controls, buttons, and panels adopt the same translucent, fluid look introduced earlier this year. The interface feels more consistent with the rest of iOS.
Functionality remains the same, but the updated visuals help modernize an app that hadn’t seen a significant UI refresh in a while.
The Measure app got a Liquid Glass update in iOS 26.2.Foundry
Auto chapters in Podcasts
Although Apple Podcasts already had a chapter selector, it required the podcast creator to set them manually. iOS 26.2 automatically creates chapters based on the content transcript, so you can easily jump to a specific part of an episode.
In addition, the app now detects mentions of another podcast available on the platform and then provides the user with a link to listen to that episode.
Improved Sleep Score
Another new feature introduced with iOS 26 is Sleep Score, which ranks the user’s sleep quality based on data obtained from the Apple Watch. This includes things like how long you sleep, bedtime, and interruptions.
With iOS 26.2, Apple is making fine adjustments to Sleep Score, which now provides a more accurate score for each category. These are the new scores for each level:
Very High: 96-100
High: 81-95
OK: 61-80
Low: 41-60
Very Low: 0-40
The Sleep Score is improved in iOS 26.2.Foundry
Set reminders as alarms
With iOS 26.2, users can choose to display reminder notifications as alarms. Instead of a banner, the reminder will take up the entire screen with an audible alert, just like traditional alarms set in the Clock app. You can snooze the reminder or slide to stop it.
It’s worth noting that the feature is optional, which means you can continue using the Reminders app with classic notifications if you prefer.
AirDrop PIN
AirDrop is also gaining a new feature with iOS 26.2. When you’re using AirDrop with someone who isn’t in your contacts list, AirDrop will show a PIN code to be entered on the other device, similar to Apple TV pairing.
Doing this adds the other device to a list of known devices for 30 days. So the next time, you can quickly use AirDrop with that person without changing any settings or entering the PIN again.
You can now secure AirDrop interactions with a pin code in iOS 26.2.Foundry
Apple News shortcuts
With the update, Apple News users will find new shortcuts with quick access to specific sections of the News app. These include Sports, Puzzles, Politics, and Food.
The shortcuts are shown on the Apple News app home screen, as well as in the Search tab.
Freeform app tables
Apple’s Freeform whiteboarding app, which lets users sketch, brainstorm, organize notes, and more on an infinite canvas, is getting a powerful tool in iOS 26.2: tables.
After updating to iOS 26.2, you’ll see the new option to add tables alongside the existing options for creating notes and adding shapes. Tables can be customized with multiple rows and columns.
AirPods Live Translation in the EU
One of the biggest new features in iOS 26 is Live Translation for AirPods. As the name suggests, this feature allows users to talk to people who speak a different language, with the earbuds translating the conversation in real time.
The feature was previously only available in a few regions, but iOS 26.2 expands it to more countries. The feature is now enabled for all users in the European Union.
It’s worth noting that AirPods Live Translation only works with AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods 4. The feature is available in English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
Update to iOS 26.2
Functionality remains the same, but the updated visuals help modernize an app that hadn’t seen a significant UI refresh in a while. If you’re already running iOS 26, this update makes the experience feel more cohesive, more responsive, and simply nicer to use day-to-day. To get the update when it arrives, head over to the Settings app, then General and Software Update.

Google Maps Quietly Added This Long-Overdue Feature for Drivers Google Maps on iOS quietly gained a new feature recently that automatically recognizes where you've parked your vehicle and saves the location for you.
Announced on LinkedIn by Rio Akasaka, Google Maps' senior product manager, the new feature auto-detects your parked location even if you don't use the parking pin function, saves it for up to 48 hours, and then automatically removes it once you start driving again.
Saving your parking spot in Maps isn't a new ability in itself. You could already do that manually by tapping your location on the map and then choosing Saved Parking. The difference here is that the whole process is automated for you.
Akasaka explains what you need to do to get the feature to work:
Get in a car with Google Maps and connect to your car with USB, Bluetooth or CarPlay, and once you're done driving, there's a little pin waiting for you when you open Google Maps next – a personal parking Maps valet, just for you. When you drive again, the pin goes away, just like that.Automatic parking location saving started rolling out on iPhone about a month ago, but since then another feature has gone live that will now use any custom car icons you've set up as a parking icon, instead of the default "P" icon. Google added custom car icons to Maps in 2020, and eight new car shapes and colors were added earlier this year.
As things stand, the new auto-save parking place feature only works on iOS. While a similar parking reminder can be found on Android, the icon will only go away if the user manually removes it.

Pebble Unveils $75 iPhone-Compatible Smart Ring for Quick Voice Recordings Pebble today announced the Pebble Index 01, a simple smart ring that's designed for recording information. It is equipped with a microphone and a button to start a recording, but little else.
Priced at $75, the Index 01 does not require an internet connection or a subscription, and it doesn't record unless the button is pressed. Recordings are sent to a connected smartphone, and can be saved as a note, added to a calendar, or set as a reminder. Information is processed by open source speech-to-text and AI models locally on an iPhone or Android smartphone.
It is customizable, and single or double button clicks can be set to control different actions like switching to a new song, taking a photo, or activating smart home devices.
The device is made from stainless steel, and it is available in three colors, including silver, gold, and black. Sizes range from 6 to 13. It is resistant to water, and no charging is necessary. Pebble says the battery will last for 12 to 15 hours of recording, which equates to 10-20 recordings per day that are 3-6 seconds in length. Since there is no replaceable battery and no option to charge, the ring is meant to be recycled when the battery dies.
The Pebble Index 01 is priced at $75 and is available for pre-order from the Pebble website. It will ship in March 2026, and after that, the price will increase to $99.Tag: PebbleThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

European Commission credits DMA for upcoming iPhone-Android switching tools Apple and Google are preparing tools to make switching devices easier, but the European Commission is already claiming credit under the DMA.iPhone 17 ProOn Monday, Google began rolling out an Android update that will eventually make it easier for users to transfer data, such as contacts, calendars, and messages, between platforms. Apple is also working on a similar feature for a future iOS 26 developer beta, though no release date has been set.The feature isn't live yet, and we suspect it will take quite some time before it is. The rollout process is likely to be gradual, as it requires significant collaboration between Apple and Google. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums
EU Takes Credit for Apple and Google's Upcoming iPhone-Android Data Transfer Tools The simplified smartphone switching Apple and Google are adopting is an example of how the Digital Markets Act (DMA) benefits users and developers, the European Commission said today. Apple and Google are making it easier for users to switch between iPhone and Android smartphones, adding an option to transfer data from another smartphone during the device setup process.
Apple and Google are implementing this functionality because the DMA requires services to offer effective data portability to avoid data lock-in to an operating system. The EC says the new interoperability is a "direct result of the DMA."
The European Commission welcomes the cross-OS data portability solution that has been communicated by Apple and Google. This is an example of how the Digital Markets Act (DMA) brings benefits to users and developers.
This OS portability solution will allow users to easily transfer data from iPhone to Android and vice versa when they set up a new device. It will support many types of data, including: contacts, calendar events, messages, photos, documents, Wi-Fi networks, passwords, and even data from third-party apps. It will also work wirelessly. These are major upgrades compared to the currently limited data transfer solutions.
The DMA is also the reason why Apple and Google designed a simplified eSIM transfer solution earlier this year. The EC says that both new features were made possible by "extensive engineering work and collaboration" between the two companies, along with "intensive discussions with the Commission."
Taken together, the eSIM transfer and the OS data portability solutions will greatly simplify the experience of users who want to switch from an iPhone to an Android phone, or vice versa. This improved data portability across platforms brings more user choice, which drives competition and creates more incentives to innovate. Users should be able to pick a new phone based on innovative features, not based on where their data is locked.
Apple and Google are currently testing the new smartphone switching solution. Google implemented it in an Android Canary build, and Apple is expected to add it in a future update to iOS 26. Apple and Google will support transferring contacts, messages, photos, documents, Wi-Fi networks, passwords, information from third-party apps, and more.
Though Apple and Google are implementing simplified switching due to DMA requirements, it is functionality that will be rolled out worldwide and not just in Europe.
The European Commission is highlighting DMA wins because earlier this year, Apple commissioned a study that said the Digital Markets Act has failed to lower App Store prices for consumers. Apple said the DMA has "failed to live up to its promises," and has only delivered "less security, less privacy, and a worse experience for consumers across Europe."Tags: Android, European Commission, European UnionThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

The iPhone’s 18 Dynamic Island could get smaller, according to a new report Macworld
Rumors from Chinese social media site Weibo are hit-and-miss, especially when they don’t contain any photographic evidence or name sources. So with the appropriate grain of salt, consider the latest leak from Weibo account “Smart Pikachu” who asserts that Apple is testing a “a micro-transparent glass panel” for under-display Face ID.
Face ID relies on a number of sensors beyond just the front-facing camera. There’s an infrared flood illuminator, a dot projector from a VCSEL array, and a structured light receiver. So some of these parts might move under the display, but the main front-facing camera probably won’t, for example.
This could make the Dynamic Island area smaller, or even reduce it to a “punch-hole” style circle. Otherwise, it’s unclear why Apple would need to move the parts under the display. Of course, even this rumor says Apple is only “testing” the technology, and does not mention which iPhone 18 phones would get the feature. So, it could be limited to the Pro models or even just the Pro Max if it arrives at all.
We’ve certainly heard rumors of Apple reducing and eventually eliminating the cutout for its front camera several times in the past. While the timeline seems to shift, the latest leaks seem to suggest that we’ll see some changes in the iPhone 18 timeframe and further changes in the 20th anniversary iPhone in 2027.

EU says easier iPhone-Android switching is proof the DMA is working Yesterday, Apple and Google announced that they have teamed up to make it easier to switch between Android and iPhone devices. The companies say they have developed new features that make it easier and faster to move data between each platform as part of this joint collaboration.
In a new statement to 9to5Mac, a European Commission spokesperson says this is an “example of how the Digital Markets Act (DMA) brings benefits to users and developers.”
While the European Commission is taking credit for this Apple-Google collaboration, the features will be available worldwide, not just in the European Union.

Apple's Slow AI Pace Becomes a Strength As Market Grows Weary of Spending An anonymous reader quotes a report from Bloomberg: Shares of Apple were battered earlier this year as the iPhone maker faced repeated complaints about its lack of an artificial intelligence strategy. But as the AI trade faces increasing scrutiny, that hesitance has gone from a weakness to a strength -- and it's showing up in the stock market. Through the first six months of 2025, Apple was the second-worst performer among the Magnificent Seven tech giants, as its shares tumbled 18% through the end of June. That has reversed since then, with the stock soaring 35%, while AI darlings like Meta Platforms and Microsoft slid into the red and even Nvidia underperformed. The S&P 500 Index rose 10% in that time, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index gained 13%. [...] As a result, Apple now has a $4.1 trillion market capitalization and the second biggest weight in the S&P 500, leaping over Microsoft and closing in on Nvidia. The shift reflects the market's questioning of the hundreds of billions of dollars Big Tech firms are throwing at AI development, as well as Apple's positioning to eventually benefit when the technology is ready for mass use. "It is remarkable how they have kept their heads and are in control of spending, when all of their peers have gone the other direction," said John Barr, portfolio manager of the Needham Aggressive Growth Fund.
Bill Stone, chief investment officer at Glenview Trust Company, added: "While they most certainly will incorporate more AI into the phones over time, Apple has avoided the AI arms race and the massive capex that accompanies it." His company views Apple's stock as "a bit of an anti-AI holding."

iPhone Fold Expected to Claim 22% of Foldable Market, 34% of Revenue in First Year Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone is expected to spur strong growth in worldwide foldable smartphone shipments in 2026, according to new estimates shared by IDC.
IDC believes the iPhone Fold will capture over 22 percent unit share and 34 percent of the foldables market value in its first year due to an expected $2,400 starting price point. Right now, the foldable market is dominated by Samsung and Google.
"The launch of Apple's first foldable iPhone will mark a turning point for the foldable segment," said Francisco Jeronimo, vice president of client devices at IDC. "This move is likely to boost category awareness and drive consumer interest. Apple tends to be a catalyst for mainstream adoption of new categories. Although foldables will continue to be a niche segment from a volume perspective, it will become a relevant value driver for most vendors offering foldables, as average selling prices will be 3 times higher than a standard smartphone."
The overall foldable smartphone market is expected to grow 30 percent in 2026 thanks to Apple joining the market, with some growth also expected from Samsung's Galaxy Z Trifold launching in January 2026.
Rumors suggest Apple's first foldable iPhone will debut in fall 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models. The iPhone Fold is expected to feature book-like design that folds horizontally, opening out into a larger iPad mini-sized display.
The device will be around 5.5 inches in size when folded, but it will open up to around 7.8 inches. Apple has worked to eliminate the crease with a reinforced hinge, and it could be one of the first foldable devices with no visible crease.
Details on what to expect from Apple's foldable iPhone can be found in our iPhone Fold roundup.Tag: IDCThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Hands-on: Sonnet RackMac mini – up to three Mac minis in a single enclosure [Video] In macOS 26.2, which will be released soon, Apple is introducing a new low-latency feature that lets you cluster several Macs together using Thunderbolt 5 at up to 80Gb/s. Among other potential use-cases, this feature may prove to be handy for AI developers and researchers looking to run massive local models by pooling together device resources.
This clustering capability won’t just be limited to high end machines like the Mac Studio, but will work with any Thunderbolt 5-enabled Mac, including the M4 Pro Mac mini. It’s perfect timing, because I just went hands-on with Sonnet’s new rack mount solution for the M4-era Mac mini, aptly titled RackMac mini.
The RackMac mini lets users mount up to three Mac mini machines in a standard 19-inch rack footprint, and features a handful of intelligent design decisions – like front power buttons – that make managing multiple machines easy. Watch our hands-on video as we take a closer look, and be sure to subscribe to 9to5Mac on YouTube for more.
