'iPhone Ultra' Will Solve Two Key Problems
Apple reportedly plans to unveil a foldable iPhone in September, with one leaker on Chinese social media claiming the device will be called the "iPhone Ultra."
Now, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the device will have improved screen quality and overall durability compared to competing foldables. "Apple engineers believe they've solved problems with screen quality and overall durability, two long-running flaws with phones in this category," he said.
Rumors on launch timing have been all over the place, with some claiming the foldable iPhone will be available in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models while others suggest there could be a delay in availability that might extend even into early 2027. The latest rumor suggests, however, that while production is behind schedule, Apple is still aiming for a fall 2026 launch.
For more on the iPhone Ultra, check out last week's episode of The MacRumors Show.
Apple Stops Accepting Orders for Some Mac Mini and Mac Studio Models
Amid severe global RAM chip shortages and rumors of updated models, some Mac mini and Mac Studio configurations are now completely out of stock on Apple's online store in the U.S.
Mac mini configurations with an upgraded 32GB or 64GB of RAM and Mac Studio configurations with an upgraded 128GB or 256GB of RAM are listed as "currently unavailable" on the storefront, meaning they can no longer be ordered at all.
Other configurations that remain available continue to face lengthy shipping delays, with estimated delivery time frames ranging from one to three months. Last month, Apple entirely removed the Mac Studio's 512GB of RAM option, but supplies are clearly now tightening even further.
Apple Testing Four Smart Glasses Styles Made of High-End Materials
Apple is developing at least four different styles of smart glasses, and the company is betting that their superior design will set them apart from rival products, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman says that Apple's latest designs are made from a high-end acetate material, which is "more durable and luxurious" than the standard plastic used by most existing brands. In Gurman's words, the designs in testing include:
A large rectangular frame, reminiscent of Ray-Ban Wayfarers
A slimmer rectangular design, similar to the glasses worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook
Larger oval or circular frames
A smaller, more refined oval or circular option
Apple and Amazon Ink Satellite Deal Amid Amazon's Takeover of Globalstar
Amazon has announced that it will acquire Globalstar, which currently serves as Apple's exclusive satellite connectivity partner, but it appears Apple satellite services will be preserved and will perhaps expand under the deal.
Alongside the acquisition, Amazon and Apple have signed a separate agreement for Amazon's Leo satellite network to power existing iPhone and Apple Watch satellite features, including Emergency SOS, Messages via satellite, Find My, and Roadside Assistance via satellite.
Amazon said it will continue supporting iPhone and Apple Watch models that use Globalstar's existing and upcoming low Earth orbit constellation. Amazon also said it will work with Apple on future satellite services running on the expanded Leo network.
Check Who's Using Your iPhone Hotspot Data
If you regularly share your iPhone's data connection with your laptop or iPad, or let family members piggyback on your device's data, you'll be glad to learn that Apple recently made it a lot easier to keep tabs on who's burning through your monthly allowance.
In a welcome change with the release of iOS 26.4, Apple has moved Personal Hotspot data usage info out of its previous hiding spot and put it in a much more convenient location right in the Personal Hotspot menu.
Apple Highlights Photos Shot on iPhone During NASA's Mission to Moon
Astronauts aboard NASA's Orion spacecraft used the iPhone 17 Pro Max to take selfies of themselves with the Earth in the background during the Artemis II mission around the far side of the Moon earlier this month.
Now that the crew members have safely returned to Earth, Apple's CEO Tim Cook and marketing chief Greg Joswiak have both turned to social media to congratulate them on their successful mission and highlight the iPhone's involvement.
"You captured the wonders of space and our planet beautifully, taking iPhone photography to new heights, and we're grateful you shared it with the world," wrote Cook. "Your work continues to inspire us all to think different. Welcome home!"

Apple Says CarPlay Ultra is Coming to These Vehicle Brands Last year, Apple launched CarPlay Ultra, the long-awaited next-generation version of its CarPlay software system for vehicles. Nearly a year later, CarPlay Ultra is still limited to Aston Martin's latest luxury vehicles, but that should change fairly soon.
In May 2025, Apple said many other vehicle brands planned to offer CarPlay Ultra, including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis.
CarPlay Ultra features deeper integration with a vehicle's instrument cluster and systems, built-in apps for radio and climate controls, rear-view camera feed support, and more. The connected iPhone provides app-related data, while the vehicle provides information like the current speed, fuel level, tire pressure, engine temperature, and more.
The interface is tailored to each vehicle model and automaker's identity, and drivers can choose from various preset design options.
Earlier this year, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said he was told that CarPlay Ultra would come to at least one major new Hyundai or Kia vehicle model "in the second half of this year," so hopefully an expansion is just a few months away.Related Roundup: CarPlayTag: CarPlay UltraRelated Forum: HomePod, HomeKit, CarPlay, Home & Auto TechnologyThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Who is the INIU Cougar P64 for? This power bank is rated at 140W for 16-inch MacBook Pro fast charging but is a good-looking battery recharging solution for any MacBook owner, from the Neo up.
If you’re away from a power socket long enough even a fully charged MacBook battery will eventually dry up, and that might be in the middle of a complex Excel spreadsheet, deep PowerPoint or just as the streamed movie is getting good.
We’re used to carrying around a power bank for our phones—check out the best magnetic power banks for iPhone—but lugging one around that’s big enough to top up a thirsty laptop is not an everyday backpack companion.
When you’re travelling having a high-capacity power bank nearby might just save that spreadsheet or presentation and get you to the end of the movie.
Laptop power banks come in different capacities—the higher the milliamp hours or watt hours the more recharge power it brings—and at different speeds: the more watts, the faster the charge.
We loved INIU’s Cougar P62-E1 laptop power bank for its lightweight compact form and fun color choices in a world of gray pillar designs. That model topped out at a 65W power output—just about enough watts to fast-charge a MacBook Air but falling a little short for a MacBook Pro. It can handle the Pro but a little slowly.
Now it has a senior sibling, the Cougar P64 that is rated at PD 3.1, which means its Power Delivery is up to the 140W demanded by the 16-inch MacBook Pro for fast-charging. It will work at the max speed of all Apple’s other MacBooks, too.

Full specs
Battery capacity: 25000mAh (92.5Wh)
Fastest Power Output: 140W
Total Power Output: 145W
Power Input: 80W
USB ports: 1x USB-C (140W PD 3.1); 1x USB-C (45W); 1x USB-A (18W).
Dimensions: 6.3 x 3.2 x 1 inches (159 x 81 x 25mm)
Weight: 17.5oz (496g)
Airline compatible: Yes
Macworld Test Score: 119%
It’s the slimmest and lightest of all the 140W laptop power banks we’ve tested, and maybe the best looking depending on whether you prefer the slab shape compared to its rivals’ pillar form.
It ships with a 2-foot 240W USB-C to USB-C cable and a handy travel pouch. It’s available in either black or white, although the white model was hard to get at the time of writing.
The EcoFlow RAPID Pro Power Bank has an integrated USB-C cable that is convenient, especially if you are susceptible to forgetting to pack a cable on your travels.
Fastest charging
With a 140W USB-C port, the INIU Cougar P64 matches the speed of some of our other top-rated MacBook power banks, including the Anker Prime Power Bank (26K, 300W), EcoFlow RAPID Pro Power Bank 27K (300W), Ugreen 48000mAh Portable Power Bank (300W), Cuktech 15 Ultra Power Bank 20000mAh (165W) and others.
At top-speed it should take only 30 minutes to simultaneously charge a 16-inch MacBook Pro to 60% and an iPhone 15 Pro Max to 62%. It also supports Samsung Super Fast Charge 2.0.
25K capacity and performance
Its large 25,000mAh (92.5Wh) battery capacity is airline-approved, although it’s always worth checking before taking it to the airport as some airlines have their own rules.
In our recharging test, the INIU Cougar P64 got a Macworld score of 119%. That means that it recharged our test 14-inch MacBook Pro from 0% to 100% and then another 19% on the second recharge.
That compares favorably with the Anker Prime’s 125% and EcoFlow’s 120% scores.
Max output
Where it falls off in comparison to its rival 140W power banks—and therefore where you must compromise fir the lower cost—is its lower maximum power output. Using its two USB-C ports it can push out a total of 145W (100W+45W), where the Anker Prime, Ugreen 48000mAh and EcoFlow RAPID Pro each has a maximum 300W output.
If you are wanting to recharge a few MacBooks at the same time, the P64 will do it slower than the others as it has less power to simultaneously share around.
That said, when using all three at the same time, one laptop could be charged at 100W with the other two ports sharing 45W, which should be enough to fast-charge an iPhone (via the second USB-C) and a third device via the USB-A port.
Input
The P64 is no slouch when it comes to being recharging itself, with an 80W input speed. But the Anker Prime and EcoFlow Power Banks can use both their two 140W ports at the same time for far-higher input speeds of 250W and 280W respectively.
If time is on your side before you venture out, 80W should be fast enough for a gentle power bank recharge.
INIU
Display
The P64 has a large smart display, showing the remaining power in the power bank, the output power of each port, plus the remaining battery in terms of hours.
Price
How does the INIU Cougar P64 match up on price with its 140W rival power banks?
Priced at $89.99 / £89.99 it looks like a bargain compared to the $229/£179 Anker Prime and $189/£169 EcoFlow RAID Pro. Those products have higher total power output when using more than one port at a time and much faster power bank recharging, but for a fast-charging laptop power bank the P64 is hard to ignore at this price.
The Cuktech 15 Ultra is cheaper still at around $75 but has a lower 20K battery capacity and a larger body.
Should you buy the INIU Cougar P64 140W 25K Power Bank?
The Cougar P64 is a compellingly affordable power bank for MacBook owners with its speedy recharging and compact, lightweight form.

Test your Mac’s performance using one of these benchmark and speed-test tools Macworld
Is your Mac’s performance not as good as it once was? Wondering if there might be a problem with your software or if one of the components has failed? Or perhaps it’s your web connection that’s bothering you, but you aren’t sure if it’s just that your broadband connection is really poor, or if there’s something else going on with your Mac.
We share plenty of advice on how to update your Mac, and speed up a slow Mac, but how do you tell if there is really a problem with your Mac rather than you just being impatient with it? One way to get an idea of how well your Mac is working is to run benchmarks and a set of performance tests on your MacBook or Mac desktop.
Several benchmarking apps will help you find out how fast your Mac is, you can test your GPU and your CPU as well as your Wi-Fi internet speed and even ethernet speed. In this article we’ll run through the best Mac performance test apps, including some free options you can find online.
If you are thinking of buying a new Mac, running benchmarks on your current machine and then comparing them to our benchmarks of the newer models we’ve reviewed will give you an idea of the kind of boost you can expect. (Check our Mac reviews section for the latest Mac benchmarks.)
In this article, we’ll recommend the variety of (usually free) apps we use to evaluate a Mac’s performance (and more specifically, the performance of its components) in a range of scenarios. Carry on reading to find out how to benchmark the CPU, GPU, hard drive, and more, of your Mac desktop or laptop.
How to run Mac speed tests
Want to find out how fast your Mac is (and confirm your belief that it’s been slowing down)? You can run various tests to find out your processor speed, which would give you an insight into how powerful your Mac is. We also recommend checking the speed of your SSD–or hard drive, if you Mac is older.
Before running any of the tests below, we recommend closing any apps on your Mac as they might affect how well the machine performs. Restarting to make sure that any RAM is freed up is also advisable.
How to benchmark your Mac’s CPU
To check your processor speed we recommend Geekbench from Primate Labs. Geekbench is free to use and you can get it on the Mac App Store here. You can also download it from Primate Labs website here.
Geekbench 6 (updated from Geekbench 5 in February 2023) is the most popular tool for gauging how powerful the latest processors are, and because it works for Macs and PCs, as well as iOS and Android you can get a good idea of how your processor compares to another. It is our go-to benchmark tool when reviewing the latest Macs, iPhones and iPads here at Macworld.
Geekbench’s CPU test runs through various tests to stress the CPU and then calculates an overall score–the higher the better. Tests include file compression, rendering web pages and PDFs, running developer scripts, and doing machine-learning tasks like object detection and background blur.
Running these tests could be useful if you think something is wrong with your Mac; you can compare the score to similar Macs and processors. You can view recent Geekbench scores for various Mac processors here.
Foundry
How to benchmark your CPU with Geekbench
The main draw of Geekbench is that it’s incredibly easy to use and requires little technical knowledge. Here’s how to use it:
Download the app from the Mac App Store here or Primate Labs website here.
We recommend that you restart your Mac before running the test.
Close any other apps that are running on your Mac.
Open Geekbench.
You’ll see a Welcome to Geekbench message and a request to Upgrade or Enter License. You don’t need to do either of these things. Just click on Later.
Click Run CPU benchmark.
Foundry
Geekbench will then measure the performance of your CPU when performing “everyday tasks designed to simulate real-world applications” and can take 10 minutes or more to complete, depending on the speed of your CPU.
Once it’s done, the results will be displayed. You might initially be overwhelmed by all the information on offer, from the Processor ID to the Motherboard hardware, but the only two numbers you need to concentrate on are at the top: single-core score and multi-core score.
The single-core score helps give a sense of how fast the Mac performs under certain situations when only a single processing core is handling everything. Many applications have their performance limited by a single main thread, so single-core CPU performance will determine how fast they run.
Other applications are designed to be multi-threaded so that lots of processes can run at the same time. The multi-core results show you how well your Mac can perform when pushed to its absolute limits, as it’ll use multiple processing cores at once to handle the strain. Think of it as your Mac’s top-end performance.
You can take these results and compare them to other benchmark tests on the Geekbench Browser, allowing you to see how your Mac compares to the latest generation of Macs, and even its competitors from other manufacturers. It should give you an idea of how well your computer is performing at the moment, and whether the upgrade you’re considering is worth it in terms of raw processing power.
Foundry
How to check your Mac’s disk speed
One way we used to check how fast the storage inside our Mac was used to be to copy and paste a 4GB folder and then time how long it took to duplicate. That is no longer an effective measure because, since Apple introduced APFS (Apple File System) the folder is no longer duplicated, all you are really doing is creating an alias to the original file.
Therefore the only way to really make a judgment about the speed of the storage inside your Mac is to use a tool such as the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test (free from the Mac App Store here), or the AJA System Test Lite (free from the Mac App Store here) to measure the read/write speeds of your hard drive or SSD.
How to benchmark your SSD with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test
The free Blackmagic Disk Speed Test was designed for video editors to help determine whether their hard drives can handle large files. If you’re not a video editor, don’t fret. the data is still very helpful to gauge performance.
Download Blackmagic Disk Speed Test.
We recommend that you restart your Mac before running the test.
Open the app.
For improved accuracy, and as with all other benchmark tests, it’s best to make sure that no other apps are running.
Select your target drive if your Mac has more than one hard drive (this is done by clicking the gear cog) and click start to begin the benchmark.
While there’s a bunch of data showcased in the Will it Work? and How Fast? charts, that’s mainly for video editors. The numbers you want to focus on are displayed in the big gauges at the top. The write speed is on the left and the read speed on the right, giving you an idea of how fast things will be written to the drive and how fast apps and files will load respectively.
Blackmagic Disk Speed works by running a write test and the Write gauge will eventually stop with a result. Then, it will do the same with a Read test. Then, it starts the process over again with a test of a different file size and will continue to go back and forth between tests until you click the Stop button. You can record any results you see while the gauge is stopped. You’ll find that the results between test iterations are similar.
How to check GPU performance on Mac
Finally, let’s talk about graphical performance. For this, we usually opt for two main benchmark tools: Geekbench’s Compute tests and Maxon’s Cinebench.
How to use Cinebench to benchmark your Mac’s GPU
Cinebench 2024, which you can download here, is another free piece of software that, in addition to testing your Mac’s CPU (much like Geekbench without the ability to compare with other results online), will use an OpenGL and Metal test to benchmark your graphics card.
Cinebench tests the CPU and/or GPU by creating a 3D engine with Maxon’s Redshift render engine. On M3 and later Macs, Cinebench supports the GPU-accelerated Metal RT hardware ray tracing.
After the tests have run you’ll see the frames per second (fps) result and a score, with the higher the result the better. You’ll see some of the best results following the test, but Maxon doesn’t have an easy-to-search database for different models like Geekbench does.
Maxon
To perform the test, install the app (It’s called Cinebench 2026), open it, and click Start next to the GPU test in the top-left corner of the app. It’ll take you through the test, and your final result will be displayed next to the Start button. A test can take 10 minutes or longer.
How to use Geekbench to benchmark your Mac’s GPU
Geekbench doesn’t measure 3D graphics rendering performance like the Cinebench test above. Instead, it uses the GPU to handle computational tasks like edge detection on images, applying a gaussian blur to a 24-megapixel photo, or detecting faces in photos. That is how it measures GPU Compute tasks. For that reason we would suggest that if you want to measure 3D graphics performance you are better off using Cinebench (above). Geeknech Compute is a good general-purpose GPU benchmark.
To measure the GPU using Geekbench download the app from the Mac App Store here or Primate Labs website here.
We recommend that you restart your Mac before running the test.
Close any other apps that are running on your Mac.
Open Geekbench.
You’ll see a Welcome to Geekbench message and a request to Upgrade or Enter License. You don’t need to do either of these things. Just click on Later.
Click on Compute in the sidebar on the left.
Choose between OpenCL or Metal in the GPU API section. On a Mac, Metal is the most important score; on iPhones and iPads, the only supported API is Metal.
Click Run GPU Benchmark.
Having benchmarked your Mac you will have a better idea of whether it is performing as well as should be expected, or if there might be something wrong. Our first suggestion would be to update your software, but if your Mac is just suffering from old age and you decide to look for a new Mac, take a look at our Mac buying guide and be sure to check out the best prices for a new Mac in our various Mac deals round ups:

5+ Things to Know About the Next Mac Studio Apple is working on an updated version of the Mac Studio that's expected at some point in 2026, and with supplies of existing machines running low, we thought we'd highlight what's next for Apple's most powerful desktop machine.
Design
We're not expecting Apple to redesign the Mac Studio, and there haven't been rumors of a design update. The Mac Studio will continue to have an Apple TV or Mac mini-like squircle design with rounded corners.
The Mac Studio is a much more compact desktop than the now-discontinued Mac Pro, measuring in at 3.7 inches tall and 7.7 inches wide. The current Mac Studio supports Thunderbolt 5, and the next version will too. There haven't been rumors of any changes to the port configuration.
M5 Max and M5 Ultra Chips
We're expecting the Mac Studio to adopt M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. Apple already debuted the M5 Max with the MacBook Pro models that came out in March, but the M5 Ultra is still a mystery.
The M5 Max has up to an 18-core CPU and 40-core GPU, with up to 614GB/s memory bandwidth. Apple says the M5 Max offers up to 30 percent faster CPU performance for pro workloads than the M4 Max. The M5 Ultra will bring even better performance, and historically, Apple's Ultra chips have been two Max chips linked together.
The M5 Ultra could have up to a 36-core CPU and up to an 80-core GPU.
The current Mac Studio has a mix of M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips because Apple didn't design an M4 Ultra chip, but the M5 cycle is expected to unify the Mac Studio chip options to a single generation.
Faster SSD
The M5 MacBook Pro models were updated with a faster SSD, so the Mac Studio could get the same SSD improvements. Apple says the updated SSD in the M5 MacBook Pro models is up to 2x faster than the SSD in the M4 MacBook Pro models.
RAM
Because of global RAM shortages, Apple discontinued the 512GB Mac Studio earlier this year. The current machine maxes out at 256GB RAM, and that's a limitation we could see with the next Mac Studio too.
The M5 Max MacBook Pro supports up to 128GB RAM, so that will be the ceiling for the M5 Max Mac Studio. The M5 Ultra model could support up to 256GB.
RAM shortages are expected to continue throughout the year, because companies that manufacture memory are prioritizing orders from companies building AI servers that require huge amounts of RAM. There is little supply left for consumer products, which has caused prices to increase. Many PC and smartphone makers have raised their prices on existing machines, but Apple hasn't changed Mac Studio pricing.
Mac Studio Shortages
Apple stopped accepting orders for some Mac Studio configurations in early April, and they are out of stock. Mac Studio configurations with 128GB or 256GB of RAM can no longer be ordered, but that's not necessarily a sign that a new machine is launching imminently.
Apple has been dealing with soaring DRAM and NAND flash prices, and the fact that only models with higher RAM are unavailable suggests it's a supply issue and not an indication of a refresh.
Pricing
There haven't been rumors of pricing increases for the Mac Studio, so it could continue to start at $1,999, but Apple has raised the prices of other Macs this year.
Starting prices for the M5 MacBook Air and the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models increased, though Apple did soften the blow with higher starting storage. It's possible the Mac Studio price will go up, and the entry-level machine will start with a 1TB SSD instead of a 512GB SSD.
No More Mac Pro
Apple discontinued the Mac Pro in late March, so the Mac Studio is now Apple's only pro desktop option. There was a lot of overlap between the Mac Pro and the Mac Studio, with the Mac Pro only offering PCIe expansion slots as a differentiating feature.
The Mac Studio, Mac mini, and iMac are Apple's desktop Mac options.
Release Timing
It's not clear when we might see a refreshed Mac Studio because of the shortages that Apple is facing. It's possible Apple is holding RAM supply for new models and that's why some current versions are out of stock, but it's also possible things are so dire that Apple will need to hold the Mac Studio launch.
The next logical time for a new Mac Studio to be introduced is WWDC. Apple has introduced new Macs at WWDC in the past, but there isn't always new hardware. The WWDC keynote is being held on June 8, and if a new Mac Studio is coming around the first half of 2026, that's likely when it will be announced.
If an updated Mac Studio doesn't come at WWDC, we're looking at a refresh later in the year. Macs aren't often updated in September, so October or November are stronger possibilities.Related Roundup: Mac StudioBuyer's Guide: Mac Studio (Caution)Related Forum: Mac StudioThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

India Won't Require Apple to Preinstall Government ID App on iPhones India will not require smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung to preload devices with a state-owned biometric identification app, reports Reuters.
The Unique Identification Authority of India asked the IT ministry to start talks with Apple and other tech companies about the possibility of mandatory preinstallation of the Aadhaar identity app, but the IT ministry told Reuters today that it reviewed the proposal and is "not in favor" of mandating the app's preinstallation.
Aadhaar is a 12-digit identity number that residents of India can apply for, and it has been issued to more than 1.34 billion residents. The number is linked to an individual's image, fingerprints, and iris scans, and it serves as proof of residence. It is used for government benefits, banking, taxes, mobile connections, and more.
The Identification Authority said that the IT ministry consulted with "stakeholders from the electronics industry" before deciding not to proceed with the proposal to preload Aadhaar. India's government has asked smartphone makers to preinstall state-owned apps on devices six times over the last two years, according to Reuters. Smartphone makers like Apple have thwarted all requests.
Late last year, India's Department of Communications gave smartphone companies 90 days to start preinstalling the Sanchar Saathi government app on all new devices sold in the country. Sanchar Saathi is a government app that lets users block stolen devices, report fraudulent calls, and verify second-hand phones. Apple told government officials that it would not comply with the requirement because of privacy and security concerns, and the government dropped the issue.
Apple told India the same thing about the Aadhaar app, informing the IT ministry that it had safety and security concerns about preloading apps.Tag: IndiaThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Anthropic Debuts Claude Design for Creating Prototypes, Pitch Decks, and Mockups Anthropic today launched Claude Design, a new AI product for creating designs, prototypes, slides, and more. Claude Design uses Opus 4.7, a new AI model that was introduced earlier this week.
Opus 4.7 is Anthropic's most capable vision model, and it can see images in greater resolution. Anthropic says that it is "more tasteful and creative" when doing professional tasks. It is able to create higher-quality interfaces, slides, and docs, making it ideal for Claude Design. Claude Design was developed to allow founders, product managers, and marketers without a design background to create visuals for sharing an idea.
Claude Design is able to mock up an initial design after being provided with a prompt, and from there, designers can make revisions through conversation, comments, direct edits, and custom sliders made by Claude. Anthropic says that teams have been using Claude Design for realistic prototypes, wireframes and mockups, design explorations, pitch decks, presentations, social media assets, and more.
Working with Claude Design starts with brand assets, which Claude can get from the user's design files and codebase. Projects will use brand colors, typography, and other components, plus users can use a web capture tool to pull elements directly from their brand's website. Claude Design is not an image generator like Gemini's Nano Banana or ChatGPT, but it is similar to AI assistants that Adobe and Canva have rolled out.
There are included collaboration tools so multiple members of an organization can access and edit a design, and content created by Claude can be exported anywhere with support for Canva, PDF, PPTX, and standalone HTML files. Designs that are ready to build can be handed off to Claude Code, and Anthropic plans to make it easier to build integrations with Claude Design in the coming weeks.
Claude Design is available as a research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. It is rolling out to users gradually throughout the day.Tag: AnthropicThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

iPhones to Get These New Satellite Features Amazon this week announced plans to acquire Globalstar, the satellite company that powers Apple's satellite features on the iPhone 14 and newer and the Apple Watch Ultra 3. In turn, Amazon announced that it has signed an agreement with Apple to provide satellite connectivity for current and future iPhone and Apple Watch features.
The transaction, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close in 2027. At that point, Apple's features will be powered by Amazon Leo satellites.
Apple's current satellite features:Emergency SOS via satellite
Find My via satellite
Roadside Assistance via satellite
Messages via satellite All of the features are currently free to use in supported areas without Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity. Availability varies by country.
There were already five more iPhone satellite features or enhancements rumored to be in the works, even before Amazon announced this deal with Apple. At least some of the improvements may be part of iOS 27, which is expected to be available in beta starting in June and widely released in September this year.
Those enhancements are as follows:5G via satellite (may be exclusive to iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max)
Apple Maps via satellite
Photos support for Messages via satellite
Third-party apps in the App Store will be able to integrate Apple's satellite features
The ability to connect an iPhone to a satellite without pointing the device toward the skyAmazon's announcement mentioned future features, too, so Apple's suite of satellite functions should expand even more over the coming years.Related Roundup: iOS 27Tag: iPhone Satellite FeaturesThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

The MacRumors Show: What's Next for the iPad On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we talk through Apple's upcoming overhaul of the iPad mini and iPad Air, looking at the future of the product lineup as a whole.

The headline upgrade for the iPad mini 8 is a switch from LCD to OLED display technology. The device is expected to use a single-stack LTPS panel, which is dimmer than the tandem OLED in the iPad Pro, but a substantial step up from the current display. The screen will also likely grow from 8.3 to 8.7 inches, and ProMotion is a possibility.
On the chip, sources disagree. Code Apple accidentally published in August pointed to the A19 Pro, but other evidence suggests the device will use the unreleased A20 Pro chip instead. The N1 and C1X chips are also highly likely to be present.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple is also working on a more water-resistant design, which would make new the iPad mini the first to carry an official IP rating. Apple is said to have developed a vibration-based speaker system that eliminates traditional speaker holes, removing a primary path for water ingress.
The scale of the upgrades strongly suggests a redesigned, thinner chassis to accommodate them. Gurman says the upgrades could push the price up by as much as $100 to around $599. The leaker known as "Instant Digital" has said the device will launch in the second half of 2026 at the earliest.
Apple is also expected to update the iPad Air in early 2027, with the headline change similarly being a switch to OLED. Like the iPad mini 8, the next-generation iPad Air is expected to use a single-stack LTPS panel supplied by Samsung, keeiping costs down relative to the tandem OLED in the iPad Pro. Arriving over six years after the device's last redesign, it is also likely to feature a new design similar to the iPad mini, along with the M5 chip.
The next iPad Pro is expected in spring 2027, with an M6 chip and a vapor chamber cooling system similar to the one Apple introduced in the iPhone 17 Pro, but no design changes are rumored. With the iPad Air set to close the gap significantly by adopting OLED and a thinner design, the Pro's key differentiators will narrow considerably. A more transformative reason to choose the Pro may not arrive until Apple launches its long-rumored foldable iPad, which Gurman says will feature an 18-inch display. The device has faced development hurdles around weight and display technology and is now expected no earlier than 2029, with a price potentially reaching $3,900, up to three times the cost of the current 13-inch iPad Pro.

Apple to Unveil iOS 27 in June With These New Features Beyond Siri Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 during its WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, and the update should be released in September.
Below, we outline some of the new features that are rumored to be coming with iOS 27, beyond the long-awaited more personalized version of Siri.
iOS 27 will reportedly support 5G satellite internet connectivity, although this functionality might be limited to the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models with Apple's next-generation C2 modem. Additional satellite features have been rumored, including Apple Maps via satellite and the ability to send and receive photos when using Messages via satellite.
iOS 27 may be similar to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, in the sense that Apple is apparently focused on improving "quality and underlying performance." Apple is expected to focus on bug fixes, improved stability, and Liquid Glass design enhancements.
Apple has reportedly tested an updated iPhone keyboard with enhanced autocorrect. The features should debut on iOS 27 if Apple moves forward with it. Similar to Grammarly, the keyboard "expands autocorrect by offering alternative words."
iOS 27 is not expected to include any major Liquid Glass design changes, but the update may add a system-wide Liquid Glass slider for precisely adjusting the opacity of the interface. A similar slider already exists for the Lock Screen's clock.
The update may include four new Apple Intelligence features for the iPhone 15 Pro and newer, based on code on Apple's servers discovered by Nicolás Alvarez:Visual Intelligence will let you scan nutrition labels on food packaging, for tracking calories and macronutrients in the Health app.
Visual Intelligence will let you scan phone numbers and addresses printed on paper or a business card and add them to the Contacts app.
In the Wallet app, you will likely be able to scan physical event tickets, gym membership cards, and so forth and generate digital versions.
In the Safari app, you will be able to automatically name Tab Groups for users based on the contents of the tabs within the group.Of course, these are only the features that are known or rumored so far. More details about iOS 27 will likely leak over the coming months.Related Roundup: iOS 27Tags: Apple Intelligence, SiriThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
Apple Store Becomes Backdrop for Honor's Brazen Hong Kong Ad Stunt Photos have been making the rounds on Chinese social media today showing an Honor-branded advertising truck parked directly in front of Apple Canton Road store in Hong Kong, promoting the company's new Honor 600 series smartphone.
The truck's ad features the slogan "It's our HONOR" alongside the phrase "orange to orange," which appears to be a play on the English idiom "apples to apples" – referring to a like-for-like comparison. The slogan is paired with an image of the Honor phone, in a finish that bears more than a passing resemblance to the iPhone 17 Pro's Cosmic Orange.
It's a brazen stunt for a brand that spun off from Huawei in 2020 before being sold off to another entity to bypass U.S. sanctions. Using Apple's retail store as a backdrop to pitch your rival device with a similar color is one thing, but when the design is arguably a shameless copy, you're definitely out of ideas.
Apple is unlikely to make a big stink about such guerrilla marketing, as it would only amplify it. And as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.Tag: Apple StoreThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Apple Leads Top Brands for China Smartphone Growth as Market Declines China's smartphone shipments fell 4% year over year in the first quarter of 2026, according to data from Counterpoint Research, with Apple delivering the strongest growth among the top six brands.
Counterpoint's Market Monitor Tracker attributed the decline primarily to a high base effect from last year's government subsidy program and rising component costs. Counterpoint noted that February's Lunar New Year promotions provided a slight boost, but said the "magnitude of these discounts was hampered by a sharp increase in memory costs." Rising costs are already driving up retail prices on both new and used devices, and the pressure is expected to continue through the second quarter.
Apple rose to second place in the market with shipments up 20% year over year, driven by strong iPhone 17 series demand, promotional price cuts, and government subsidies. Counterpoint says Apple is best positioned among manufacturers to navigate the ongoing global memory crunch, supported by its premium product portfolio and supply chain management. The firm expects Apple to absorb rising costs internally in the near-to-medium term and expand its market share as a result. The first quarter result extends a strong run for Apple in China; the company reclaimed the top spot in the country in the fourth quarter of 2025 with shipments up 28% year over year, and recorded a 23% sales increase in the first nine weeks of 2026.
Huawei led with a 20% market share, its highest since the fourth quarter of 2020, with shipments up 2% year over year, aided by domestic supplier relationships that cushion the impact of rising memory costs. OPPO ranked third following the reintegration of realme, with OnePlus rising 53% year over year on the Ace 6 and Turbo 6 series, though OPPO's decision to raise prices on older models in March has weighed on demand. vivo grew 2% year over year on mid-to-low-end strength, while Xiaomi was the sharpest decliner, falling 35% year over year as its core models underperformed the previous generation.
Counterpoint warned that manufacturers broadly face a "double hit" of shrinking shipments and thinning margins, and forecast that China smartphone shipments will decline 9% for the full year. Apple, by contrast, is expected to use the cost pressure to its advantage, absorbing memory price increases internally while rivals are forced to raise prices and cede ground.Tags: China, CounterpointThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Apple to Upgrade These Two Devices With OLED Displays Later This Year Apple plans to release iPad mini and MacBook Pro models with OLED displays this year, according to industry sources who spoke to South Korea's ETNews.
The current iPad mini and MacBook Pro models have LCD displays with either LED or mini-LED backlighting. The move to OLED technology would result in improved image quality, thanks to richer colors and higher contrast ratio with true blacks.
Samsung will supply the OLED displays for both devices, the report said.
All of the iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad Pro models that Apple sells today are already equipped with OLED displays, excluding refurbished models.
Other new features rumored for the next iPad mini include an A19 Pro or an A20 Pro chip, a vibration-based speaker system, and a water-resistant design. Apple will likely announce the device in September or October this year.
For the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, other new features rumored include M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, a touch screen, a Dynamic Island, and a thinner design. Apple reportedly plans to release the laptops towards the end of 2026, although there is a chance that the launch will not happen until early 2027.
The report said the iPad Air will also receive an OLED display next year.Related Roundups: iPad mini, MacBook ProTags: ETNews, OLEDBuyer's Guide: iPad Mini (Caution), MacBook Pro (Buy Now)Related Forums: iPad, MacBook ProThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Sonos Play review: Big, bold sound in a portable speaker at a premium price Macworld
At a glanceExpert's Rating
Pros
Compact, portable design
Strong sound, with firm bass
Wireless charging dock included
Supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and AirPlay 2
Cons
No mains adaptor included
Wired input requires optional adaptor
Weighs 1.3kg
Our Verdict
There are cheaper Bluetooth speakers available, but the use of Wi-Fi and AirPlay makes the Sonos Play a great choice for Apple users, frequent travellers, and those who want Wi-Fi music at home. Few portable speakers sound this good, combining power, detail and a strong bass sound, while still being able to fit into a backpack.

Who is the Sonos Play for? Apple users who care about sound quality and want the flexibility of AirPlay at home, while still being able to stream from other devices and apps. It’s also a good fit if you want a single speaker that works both indoors and outdoors. However, it comes at a premium price.
We really liked the compact Sonos Roam speaker – and its Roam 2 update last year – which provides impressive sound quality for a highly compact speaker that can easily be carried around in a backpack or travelling bag. Sonos also makes a larger battery-powered speaker called the Move 2, but that’s too big and heavy to carry around in a backpack and is more likely to stay at home most of the time. However, the company has now released a third portable speaker, called the Sonos Play, which sits right between the Roam and Move.
Priced at $299/£299 and available in black or white, the new Sonos Play aims to offer the best of both worlds, combining the more powerful sound and longer battery life of the Move 2 with a portable design that is still small and light enough to carry around when you’re travelling.
Sonos fans will also notice that it revives the name of the original Play range of speakers, which gave the company its big breakthrough 15 years ago. That’s clearly an attempt to put its recent problems behind it and get the company back on track following the widely criticised update to the Sonos app back in 2024.
The Play is twice the size of the Sonos Roam, but provides more power, deeper bass and longer battery life.
Sonos Inc.
How portable is the Sonos Play?
The design of the new Play is fairly innocuous, simply consisting of an upright slab of plastic and metal, but it gets all the basics right. It’s about twice the size of the Roam, standing 192mm high, 112mm wide and 77mm deep, but you can still slip it into a bag when you’re out and about. It’s a little heavier than it looks, weighing in at 1.3kg – slightly heavier than the new MacBook Neo at 1.23kg – so you’ll notice the weight when you’re carrying it around.
What’s inside the Sonos Play?
It packs a lot into that compact design, though, with a large central woofer to handle the mid-range and bass, and two high-frequency tweeters that are angled out to the sides to create a greater sense of space.
There are also two bass radiators on the sides of the speaker that help to enhance the bass, and a larger battery that lasts for 24 hours on a full charge, compared to 10 hours for the smaller Roam. The battery is replaceable too, with a battery kit costing $69/£49.
There’s also a built-in microphone for using the Sonos Voice assistant – although you can turn off the mic using a switch on the back of the speaker if you prefer.
There’s a lot packed into the compact Play speaker, including a woofer, two tweeters, and two radiators to boost the bass sound.
Sonos Inc.
How portable and durable is the Sonos Play?
The Play boasts a rugged IP67 rating for water and dust-resistance, so it’ll be able to survive a beach holiday or a muddy music festival, and there’s a small strap on the back of the speaker so that you can just grab it and go whenever you want.
We were pleased to find that the Play includes a wireless charging dock in the box, whereas the charging dock for the Roam is an optional extra that costs $49/£49. However, the charging dock only comes with a USB-C cable, with no mains adaptor included, so you’ll need to supply that yourself or buy the official Sonos power adaptor for $29/£29.
I was able to use the Play’s charging dock with the mains adaptor that came with my HomePod Mini, although the mains adaptor for my Sonos Roam didn’t seem to be powerful enough for the Play.
How does the Sonos Play connect?
Like most Sonos speakers, the Play turns its back on wired connections, although it is possible to buy an optional 3.5mm adaptor for $19/£19. However, the Play does well with its wireless audio features, supporting both Bluetooth (5.3) and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5.0GHz) with support for AirPlay 2 for Apple devices. For more AirPlay speakers see: Best AirPlay speakers for iPhones and Apple Music.
Is the Sonos app still a problem?
The AirPlay support means that Apple users weren’t too badly affected by the botched update to the Sonos app, since AirPlay allows Apple devices to directly control Sonos speakers without really needing to use the app very often.
The app still seems a little awkward though – it seemed to get confused when I had both the Play and my own Roam speaker connected to the app, and it was actually easier to switch between the two speakers, or even to use them together for multi-room music, by using the AirPlay controls on my iPad.
There’s a carrying strap on the back of the Play, along with a USB-C charging port and a Mute switch for the internal microphone.
Sonos Inc.
What’s the sound quality like?
The app still needs a little work then, but I can’t criticise the sound quality of the new Play.
Compact portable speakers often suffer from weak bass, but the first thing I notice as I fire up Bad Guy by Billlie Eilish on Apple Music is the bouncing electronic bass that gets you dancing straight away.
The Sonos Play has a deeper, more full-bodied bass sound than the smaller Sonos Roam, and it’s quite a bit louder too, so it’ll be a good option for listening to dance music when you’re on holiday or at a music festival with friends.
There’s also a nice rumbling sound to the slinky bass guitar riff on Leonard Cohen’s You Want It Darker, and the Sonos Play really captures the gritty, gravelly sound of Cohen’s own voice as well.
The bass isn’t overwhelming though, and the Play can pick out lighter details, such as the sharp tap on the snare and the smooth, multi-layered harmonies on the chorus.
Switching to something more delicate, the Play works wonderfully well with the strings on Max Richter’s On The Nature Of Daylight (check it out at the end of The Last Of Us, episode 3, but grab some tissues first). It captures the bittersweet tone of the violins and violas as they weave around each other, while still finding room for the deeper tone of the melancholy cello that underpins the piece.
Should you buy the Sonos Play?
If you just want a portable Bluetooth speaker for outdoor use then you may not need the additional Wi-Fi and AirPlay features provided by the Sonos Play. However, AirPlay is a real bonus for Apple users when you’re at home, and the excellent sound quality and sturdy IP67 rating make the new Sonos Play a great option for listening to music both indoors and outdoors.

iPod Marketing Veteran Stan Ng Retires After 31 Years at Apple Stan Ng, Apple's vice president of product marketing for Apple Watch, AirPods, Health, and Home, has retired after 31 years at the company (via Bloomberg).
Ng publicly announced his departure on LinkedIn on Thursday, sharing an image of the sunrise at Apple Park. "After 31 years at Apple, today was my last day," he wrote. "It was a joy to work at Apple and I truly loved what I did." Apple's latest stock vesting date took place on Wednesday, and many employees who retire or leave tend to do so around that time.
Ng joined Apple in 1995 as a senior systems engineer, before Steve Jobs had returned to the company. He later moved into product roles for the Mac before becoming one of the key marketing executives behind the original iPod. He also appeared in product launch videos, including the iPod touch reveal in 2007, and went on to oversee marketing for the iPhone and Apple Watch before Home initiatives were added to his remit in 2021.
Within Apple's marketing organization, Ng reported to Bob Borchers, who oversees product marketing under senior vice president Greg Joswiak. Marketing leaders at Apple go beyond traditional marketing, with Apple's product marketing leaders playing an active role in shaping the products themselves. Erik Treski, Apple's worldwide product marketing executive for AirPods and Home, who was referenced in last month's AirPods Max update announcement, will assume part of Ng's responsibilities. It is not yet known how the rest of his responsibilities will be divided up.
Ng's exit is the latest in a wave of senior departures that has accelerated in recent months. John Giannandrea, Apple's longtime artificial intelligence chief, was also reported to be leaving this week. Former COO Jeff Williams retired last year, design chief Alan Dye departed for Meta Platforms at the end of 2025, environment and government affairs head Lisa Jackson retired earlier this year, and general counsel Katherine Adams is set to leave later in 2026.
Ng is also the third executive closely tied to Apple's health and fitness push to exit in quick succession. Williams had overseen those groups until his retirement, while Jay Blahnik, head of Fitness+, is departing following an investigation and lawsuit related to allegations about his behavior. Apple's health initiatives were recently brought under Eddy Cue as part of a broader organizational reshuffle following Williams' retirement. This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
Plugable 10-in-1 USB-C Hub review: Portable dock alternative with 2.5Gb Ethernet Macworld
At a glanceExpert's Rating
Pros
10 ports in portable form
125W PD 3.1 to host laptop
8K/30Hz or 4K/144Hz video support
2.5Gb Ethernet
Cons
Slow card readers
Our Verdict
With 125W passthrough PD 3.1 power, 2.5Gb Ethernet, and 8K video, it’s closer in firepower to bigger, bulkier docking stations but in a far more portable and convenient slim form.

Who is the Plugable 10-in-1 USB-C Hub for? This portable, high-power USB-C hub with near-dock capabilities is ideal for Mac users who want more power and faster Ethernet without a full dock. The key trade-offs are limited 10Gbps bandwidth and slower card readers.
Unless you own the Mac Studio, there simply aren’t enough ports on your machine if you are building a pro system.
The Mac Studio hosts 12 top-end ports including six Thunderbolt 5 (or four TB5 and two 10Gbps USB-C), two 5Gbps USB-A, super-fast 10Gb Ethernet, HDMI 2.1, card reader, and headphone jack. Compared, the 16-inch MacBook Pro comes with three Thunderbolt 5, card reader, HDMI 2.1, MagSafe 3 charging port and headphone jack.
Use one of those Thunderbolt ports to add a USB-C/TB hub or docking station and many more ports can be at your disposal.
We’ve tested the best USB-C hubs and best Thunderbolt docks. If you want the very top-end of the port brigade you must go full-in with a docking station, but these are rarely portable and often costs hundreds.
The newly released Plugable 10-in-1 USB-C Hub (USBC-10IN1E) bucks that trend by putting 10 pro ports on a long, slim hub with built-in cable. Passthrough charging is impressive at 125W. The Ethernet port is rated at 2.5Gb rather than the standard Gigabit Ethernet found on every other network-ready hub. The HDMI port supports 8K on a connected display.
Simon Jary
Design: How portable is it compared to a dock?
As a hub, the Plugable 10-in-1 is super portable, especially compared to larger docking stations that require their own bulky power supply.
It’s long and slim, measuring just 8.5 x 1.3 x 0.6 inches (216 x 34 x 15mm) – about the same length as the side of a 14-inch MacBook – with a built-in 8-inch (203mm) cable. It weighs under 4oz (112g), and will slip easily into any backpack, tech organizer bag or desk drawer.
Specs in full
10Gbps USB-C to host
2x USB-C (10Gbps, 7.5W)
1x USB-A (10Gbps, 7.5W)
2x USB-A (5Gbps, 4.5W)
HDMI 2.1
2.5Gb Ethernet
SD card reader (UHS-I, 104MBps)
MicroSD card reader (UHS-I, 104MBps)
You can buy hubs with more USB ports, but the six available here are still generous, with three at 10Gbps.
Simon Jary
Bandwidth: Is 10Gbps a limitation for Mac users?
Data-transfer speed to the Mac is 10Gbps, where most Macs these days boast 40Gbps to 80Gbps Thunderbolt connections. There are no Thunderbolt hubs—for that you’ll need to step up to a docking station—but USB4 hubs are available if you need 40Gbps bandwidth.
The 7-port Satechi Pro Hub Max Adapter ($69.99) offers 40Gbps but takes up two of the connected Mac’s TB ports, as does Plugable’s own 5-in-1 USB-C hub (AMS-5IN1E).
Only the Satechi USB4 Multiport Adapter uses just one of the Mac’s ports for 40Gbps, and this hub is a close rival to the new Plugable USBC-10IN1E as it boasts nine ports, although the 2.5Gb Ethernet port it once sported has been downgraded to 1GbE.
Bandwidth may be a deal breaker for some pro users, but if 10Gbps is acceptable you can save money and bulk investing in Plugable’s 10-in-1 hub.
Power: Can it fully charge a MacBook Pro?
While the 10Gbps Plugable USBC-10IN1E has a lower data-transfer speed than the 40Gbps Satechi, it wins on passthrough power to the host MacBook—supporting Power Delivery (PD) 3.1 Extended Power Range (EPR).
Few other USB-C hubs offer as much power. While you can supply the hub with PD 3.1’s 140W of power, it uses 15W for its own operation so the maximum your laptop will receive is 125W. The company’s 9-port USBC-9IN1E hub matches the 10-port at 140W in and 125W to the connected laptop.
The 16-inch MacBook Pro requires 140W for full fast-charging, so this hub falls just short, but it’s still outputting more power than the 100W promised by other hubs—and those are also probably pegged back from their maximum by using up some of the power themselves. It should certainly keep even the top-end MacBook Pro powered at full speed even under a heavy workload.
125W should charge the top-end MacBook faster than 100W, if not reaching maximum speed, and it is easily enough to fast-charge the 14-inch MacBook Pro and below.
The USB ports aren’t going to win any prizes on power output, with three supporting 7.5W but that leaves more for the MacBook. If your setup requires more power to connected devices, look to a dock with its own meatier power adapter. What you gain in power, you lose on portability.
Simon Jary
Network: Is 2.5Gb Ethernet worth it on a USB-C hub?
Most pro docking stations now offer faster 2.5GbE wired network access, and the USBC-10IN1E joins them in a much more portable form.
Satechi has a USB-C Hub With 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, but a mere four ports in total—paltry compared to Plugable’s ten. It used to have a Multiport Adapter with more ports and 2.5GbE but has discontinued that product, leaving Plugable to nip in and fill the gap.
Video: What display support do you actually get?
The Plugable USBC-10IN1E supports a single connected 8K display at 30Hz. If that refresh rate isn’t fast enough for you, you can ‘drop’ to a 4K display at a 144Hz refresh rate, which will please video pros and gamers demanding crisper video with lower latency and smoother motion.
That 144Hz refresh rate is possible if the connected Mac has at least an M3, Pro or Max chip and is running macOS 26 or later. Base M1, M2, MacBook Neo, or Macs running macOS 15 or below, have max support for a 4K at 60Hz.
The 40Gbps Satechi USB4 Multiport Adapter matches the Plugable on 8K/30Hz but maxes at 60Hz when connected to a 4K display.
The only hub we’ve tested that beats the Plugable on refresh rate is the $65 Baseus 9-in-1 that can reach 120Hz on a 4K display, although it can’t reach 5K or 8K like the Plugable. While that hub’s two HDMI ports look appealing, you can’t use them both for Extended Mode monitors on a Mac.
If you need more than one external display via a hub, look at the other options we’ve tested and reviewed in our best USB-C hub roundup.
Storage: Are the card readers fast enough?
Although it hosts both an SD and MicroSD card reader slot, the Plugable USBC-10IN1E’s portable storage speeds are not the fastest at 104MBps. Apple’s own SDXC card reader is rated at 250MBps and other hubs boast 312MBps UHS-II card readers. The similar Satechi USB4 Multiport Adapter features the same slow card readers.
This probably isn’t a deal breaker for most users, and there’s plenty of choice if you need faster, such as Plugable’s own 9-in-1 USB-C Hub Multiport Adapter (USBC-9IN1E).

Price
The Plugable USBC-10IN1E sells for $74.95 or CA$99.99. At the time of writing it was available only in North America.
The 9-in-1 Plugable hub—priced at $49.95—matches the new 10-in-1 with 10Gbps bandwidth and 125W passthrough power but falls short on the 8K video and 2.5Gb Ethernet. If neither is vital to you, the cheaper Plugable may appeal, but there’s future-proofing built into the new 10-in-1.
For faster data-transfer, look to the 40Gbps Satechi USB4 Multiport Adapter (also supporting 8K), although you’d need further adapter for the faster network connection, and it will set you back $149.99.

Should you buy the Plugable USBC-10IN1E?
It doesn’t have a pretty name but the 10-port Plugable USBC-10IN1E offers a lot of top-end goodies not found together on any other USB-C hub: 125W passthrough PD 3.1 power, 2.5Gb Ethernet, and 8K video. As such it’s closer in firepower to bigger, bulkier docking stations but in a far more portable and convenient slim form.
