Apple notes on their Hot News page that Pfeiffer Consulting, an independent technology research institute and consulting group, has issued a report stating that Apple’s 733 MHz Power Mac G4 “offers a significant increase in productivity for the design and publishing workflow.” They also noted that the PowerBook G4 demonstrates a level of productivity and performance close to that of desktop models.

MacCentral notes that Apple has released iBook Audio Update 1.0. The update, which is only available via the Software Update Control Panel, improves the quality of sound output on Apple’s iBook (Dual USB) computers introduced in May 2001.

Adaptec has posted an update for the PowerDomain 29160, PowerDomain 29160N, PowerDomain 39160, AVA-2906 and PowerDomain 2930U driver for Mac OS X 10.0.x and Mac OS X Server 10.0. More information on the updates is available from Adaptec’s Web site.

The Times of India has an interview with Naren S Ayyar, MD, Apple Computer, India-SAARC countries, discussing the future of mobile computing. Apple has moved into the digital lifestyle this year and the Times say that’s what people are looking for. “Regular buyers are looking beyond processing power, weight and battery life. They now want new features: Connect a camera to the laptop to make home movies or get connected to the music system at home to play music downloaded from the Web.”

Mac users in the UK want their own Apple Store. A poll by Macworld UK indicates that 66 percent of the people want an Apple store “immediately.” Twenty-two percent said Apple should wait to see how the US stores do first; seven percent believe Apple should push harder in established high-street stores; and two percent thought the present system of AppleCentres was still the way to go.
