The newest release of Tex-Edit Plus, 4.1.2, has improved on the features of the application including implementation of the External Editor Protocol. The External Editor Protocol allows Tex-Edit to act as a text editor for an ftp client. Tex-Edit Plus is a scriptable, styled text editor that fills the gap between Apple’s bare-bones SimpleText and a full-featured word processor.

Dantz has updated Retrospect client for OS X. Version 1.0422 allows you to back up Mac OS X client systems from a Mac running Retrospect Desktop or Workgroup Backup 4.3 and Mac OS 8.x or 9.x.

BareFeats has published a performance comparison between the new iBook and both the 400 and 500 MHz PowerBook G4. In general, the findings show that new iBook functions on par with the 400 MHz PowerBook G4 at tasks that are not optimized for the G4’s Velocity Engine.

NETsettings.com has released Nokia Contact Sender, an application that transfers names and phone numbers to your Nokia 8260 (AT&T TDMA) mobile phone. The application does this by emailing a specially formatted vCard to your phone’s email address. Nokia Contact Sender requires Mac OS 9.1 or Mac OS X with an Internet connection.
