As was reported last week, a new virus has appeared that affects Mac users. MacInTouch and TheStandard.com are covering the new worm virus called Mac/Simpsons@mm. The worm is contained in an email entitled “Secret Simpsons Episodes!” and encourages the reader to double-click on the attached file to see hundreds of never-before-seen Simpsons episodes. Opening this file results in a mass-email going out to everyone in the readers address book.

VersionTracker notes that Symantec Norton AntiVirus 7.0.2 updater is now available. The company’s Web site has not been updated as of this posting, but the file is available via FTP. [5.5MB]

APS has released an updater to their hard disk utility, PowerTools. PowerTools 6.4.2 replaces previous 6.x versions, but APS notes that you must have PowerTools pre-installed on your system for this updater to work. Details of changes included in this release are available from the company’s Web site. [1.6MB]

Xicons let us know that over the past week they have posted six new sets of Mac OS X icons, including Famous Landmarks, Glasz Iconz, MM Graphite, Shrek, X-Frunnels, and MM Folders 4.

I just wanted to take a moment to update you on an issue that has cropped up recently. A few MacMinute readers have notified us that pop-up window advertising appears when they access our home page. I have noticed recently that a few Mac sites have started to deliver you a pop-up window ad as you leave their site, which may give the impression that it is an ad we are delivering if you came directly here from one of those Web sites.
