Symantec has posted updated definitions for Norton AntiVirus versions 5.x-7.x. The new file adds detection and eradication support for the Mac.Simpsons@mm AppleScript virus.

Adaptec has posted a firmware update for their 39160 SCSI card, as noted on VersionTracker. The update fixes several problems including a sleep issue with the Power Macintosh G4 with 133MHz system bus running at 466, 533, 677, 733MHz; the computer should no longer hang after being put into sleep mode.

In an added vote of confidence for FireWire, chipmaker VIA’s President and CEO Wenchi Chan is telling companies to abandon USB 2.0, saying it’s too confusing to customers and end users. Chan believes that the Apple-developed FireWire will likely become the high-speed connectivity standard.

Symantec has posted Norton Personal Firewall 1.0.2, an update to the firewall utility that adds Mac OS X compatibility.

Alyssa Jaffey of IdeaAdvisor says investors should not be surprised if Apple issues an earnings warning between now and the end of the quarter on June 30. Weak iMac sales, flat G4 sales, the continued weakness of the economy, the lack of an Internet/PDA device, and an uncertainty regarding the success of Apple’s retail stores are cited as the reasons for the possible warning.
