A look at cyber war in 2018

Last year was a banner year for cyber crime; more data was stolen in the first six months of 2017 than in the entirety of 2016. Gemalto’s Breach Level Index found that over 900 data breaches occurred during the first half of 2017, compromising 1.9 billion records.

According to Jing Xie, senior threat intelligence analyst for Venafi (www.venafi.com), a cyber security company, this explosive development in data exfiltration will continue in 2018. In an even more ominous trend, the number of sophisticated state sponsored cyber attacks increased significantly last year.

Breath Ball comes to the Mac

Fun Driven has released Breath Ball 2.1.2, an update of their breathing guidance app — and the first one available for macOS.

Developed for the Neurological Therapy Center Gmundnerberg in Austria for use by their patients, it helps users to relax by guiding their breathing rhythm. The app is designed to be as simple to follow as possible.

Apple’s Logic Pro X upgraded to version 10.4

Apple has updated Logic Pro X — its macOS software for professional songwriting, editing, and mixing — to version 10.4. Here’s a list of the new features:

QuickerTek announces 12TB hard drive storage upgrade for Apple’s Time Capsule

QuickerTek has announced new 5TB and 12TB hard drive upgrades (https://tinyurl.com/y8omjyrz) for the Apple AC AirPort Time Capsule — which provides only 2TB to 3TB of storage alone. By request, 6 9dBi high performance antennas can also be added to the unit for a boost in wireless power, effectively a three-fold increase in the range of the Time Capsule.

To complete this upgrade, QuickerTek first opens the chassis and removes the existing hard drive. Once this is done, either the 5TB or 12TB hard drive is slid into the empty space and plugged into the internal board.

Apple’s first store in South Korea opens Saturday

Apple Garosugil, the company’s first store in South Korea, will open in Seoul on Saturday at 10 a.m. South of the Han River, in the heart of the Gangnam area, the store’s 25-foot glass facade invites visitors in from the tree-lined street, where interior trees mirror those outside, blurring the lines between the street and store. It also sports a dynamic 6K video wall.
