Apple patent shows horizontal/vertical docking station

At least iPods, iPhones and iPads work in both vertical and horizontal orientations — and Apple wants you to be able to dock ’em in either position. A patent (number 7,715,187) has appeared at the US Patent & Trademark Office that involves methods and apparatuses for docking a portable device that has a planar like configuration and that operates in multiple orientations.

Analyst: Mac, iPad sales looking strong this fiscal quarter

Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu told clients in a note that his research shows that sales of the new MacBook Pros and the iPad are very strong, and he’s predicting another bang-up fiscal quarter for Apple.

The analyst says that Mac momentum is strong helped by the latest refresh of the MacBook Pro. He thinks Apple’s “Mac business is tracking to its third consecutive quarter of 20%+ Y/Y unit growth indicating further share gains.” Wu has upped his projected Mac sales for the quarter from 3.1 million to to 3.2 million.
