Apple Heart Study launched to identify irregular heart rhythms

Apple has launched the Apple Heart Study app, which is designed to facilitate research study using Apple Watch’s heart rate sensor to collect data on irregular heart rhythms and notify users who may be experiencing atrial fibrillation (AFib).

AFib, the leading cause of stroke, is responsible for approximately 130,000 deaths and 750,000 hospitalizations in the US every year. Many people don’t experience symptoms, so AFib often goes undiagnosed.

Apple explains how to fix an issue with Security Update 2017-001 on the Mac

Apple has released a support document to help you deal with the issue. If you experience issues with authenticating or connecting to file shares on your Mac after you install Security Update 2017-001 for macOS High Sierra 10.13.1, follow these steps to repair file sharing:

° Open the Terminal app, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.

° Type sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC and press Return. 

° Enter your administrator password and press Return.

° Quit the Terminal app.

Apple and (RED) celebrate a record year of giving

Since its creation in 2006, (RED) has worked to help the more than 37 million people living with HIV across the globe.

This World AIDS Day, Apple celebrates a record year of giving with over $30 million raised for the Global Fund, equating to 144 million days of ARV medication that prevents the transmission of HIV from mothers to their unborn babies. Over the past 11 years, Apple customers have helped provide an equivalent of 475 million days of lifesaving medication.

Virtual reality headset shipments top one million for the first time

Virtual reality headset shipments are showing no signs of slowing, as the quarterly total exceeded one million units for the first time in quarter three (Q3) of 2017, according to the Canalys (www.canalys.com) research group.

Sony took the lead, shipping more than 490,000 PlayStation VR (PS VR) sets in Q3. It was followed by Oculus, which shipped 210,000 of its Rift headsets. HTC took third place, shipping 160,000 Vive VR units. Collectively, Sony, Oculus and HTC made up 86% of the total market in Q3 2017.
