Senator Richard Blumenthal, the top Democrat in the Senate investigative panel, is demanding that tech companies like Apple turn over documents regarding donations to to President Donald Trump’s vanity ballroom project.
If they don’t, he’s threatening to subpoena them. lumenthal has also called on FCC Chair Brendan Carr to disclose details of decisions including the Paramount Skydance merger.
As noted by AppleInsider, it’s not the first time that Senator Blumenthal has raised the issue, as he wrote to certain firms about donations in 2025. “Many of the donors have deep financial, business, or other personal interests before the Administration,” he wrote.
Apple pledged US$25 million for Trump’s White House ballroom, according to a list of donors obtained by The Washington Post (a subscription is required to read the article), in October.
“Apple, Amazon, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Google, Coinbase, Comcast and Meta are just some of the major companies who have made donations to build President Donald Trump’s proposed 90,000-square-foot ballroom, according to the White House,” the article said.
According to the WSJ — listing numbers from an internal spreadsheet the publication obtained — Apple, Nvidia, the Adelson Family Foundation, and the Charlie Ergen household and donor-advised fund each pledged $25 million, collectively accounting for roughly 30% of the $333 million in reported contributions.
