Apple has made deal to acquire Ascend.io, a company focused on agentic data engineering technology, reports 9to5Mac.

Founded in 2015 and based in Palo Alto, California, the company is an agentic AI and data automation platform designed to help data engineering teams build, manage, and scale data pipelines. It combines data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, delivery, and observability into a single environment. This replaces the need to stitch together multiple separate point solutions.

It uses AI agents (“Auto”) to automatically handle routine tasks such as pipeline maintenance, incident triage, documentation, and error fixes. The platform’s intelligence core tracks data lineage, propagates changes automatically across pipelines, and enforces data quality rules.

Ascend.io’s website has also been updated with the following note:

For the past ten years we pursued a singular mission: Make Data Engineering Delightful. We introduced the industry’s first declarative data pipeline technology. We launched a unified platform that brought all of ingest, transform, and orchestration together. We invented DataAware automation. And most recently we pioneered Agentic Data Engineering — where agents work alongside teams across the entire data engineering lifecycle. Each chapter was different, but the goal the same: make life better for data engineers.
