In a press release, Apple has highlighted more than 50 third-party apps that are optimized for the iPhone Duo — or which will soon be.
“The response to iPhone Duo from our developer community has been incredible, and we’re inspired by how quickly they’ve embraced its larger display and new ways to interact,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “From watching popular shows and content on the expansive inner display to multitasking across windows or playing console-quality games, developers around the world are reimagining what their apps can do. We can’t wait for users to discover these experiences beginning this Friday, with many more app experiences to follow.”
New editorial collections for iPhone Duo apps and games will go live on the App Store this Friday, with additional app updates rolling out throughout the year. That’s the day that the foldable smartphone goes on sale — though good luck getting your hands on one. Apple says apps optimized for iPhone Duo are easy to identify with a Made for iPhone Duo badge on product pages across the storefront.
For instance, Yelp is one of the first apps available on the iPhone Duo coming out tomorrow. We’ve specially optimized the Yelp experience for the dual-screen display, making it easy to discover and compare local businesses. With Yelp on the iPhone Duo, users can view local search results and business details side by side with the map for a seamless exploration experience, as well as compare businesses at a glance, multitask, and enjoy new ways to interact with Yelp. Let me know if you have any questions.
What’s more, Apple today updated its TestFlight and GarageBand apps with support for the iPhone Duo‘s inner and outer displays. Both apps have the vertical toolbar and will now display properly on the iPhone Duo in any orientation.
