Apple has announced that it’s expanding training and skill development programs for supplier employees in Vietnam, through the deployment of a new education center in Hanoi and expanding the set of development courses at the supplier’s facilities.
Apple Education Center, the first model to be deployed in Vietnam, will be operated through cooperation with Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) will start implementing courses from this fall. Sarah Chandler, Apple’s Vice President of Supply Chain and Environment Innovation, says it will be a “dynamic space,” gathering lecturers and students where they can learn directly from professional educational experts.
The new curriculum will help supplier employees develop a variety of skills through online and practical learning opportunities. Technical programs will equip students with on-demand skills such as basic knowledge of smart manufacturing, robotics and automation technology. The set of courses of Apple Education Center will be deployed at more than 30 supplier facilities across Vietnam.
Established in 1956, HUST is the first and largest technical university in Vietnam. In addition to technical training, the center also provides professional development courses. Students will have access to leadership soft skills programs and line-up training, giving them more capacity to advance in their current role or start a completely new career journey, according to Professor Dr. Le Anh Tuan,.
Chandler says these new training programs mark the latest initiative from Apple’s $50 million Supplier’s Employee Development Fund globally. The fund is an important part of Apple’s commitment to continuously invest in human resources in the supply chain and expand long-term education programs, she adds.
Since its launch in 2022, up to now, more than 9 million education and training sessions have been implemented from the fund’s budget. At the same time, more than 108,000 employees of the supplier have participated in Apple’s Swift programming program since 2017.
This year, Apple is also expanding the Vocational Education program for the Disabled in Vietnam. Since its launch in 2022, this program has attracted more than 49,000 supplier employees at more than 70 supplier facilities, equipping people with disabilities with skills to succeed in the production environment. At the same time, the program also helps suppliers understand how to build a friendlier and more supportive working environment for everyone, Chandler says.
