In New Zealand Apple is fighting a trademark application for a smartphone case dubbed the “driPhone” (http://www.driphone.co.nz/), reports the “Sydney Morning Herald” (http://macte.ch/3gwQN).

Hayden Crowther, of Hamilton, New Zealand created the driPhone as a waterproof case for smartphones of all varieties but Apple is opposing his plans to trademark it in New Zealand and has now asked him to switch the “i” in driPhone for a “y,” the article adds.

Apple told Crowther, through Wellington-based patent and trademark attorney firm Henry Hughes that it was opposing his driPhone trademark in New Zealand. However, the inventor thinks there’s “little weight” to Apple’s opposition and, so far, has refused to rebrand it.
