VueScan update for Mac OS X updated to version 8.6.27

Hamrick Software has released Vuescan 8.6.27, a new version of the VueScan software for Mac OS X that’s designed to let users produce better digital images from color snapshots, negatives, slides and documents. The new version fixes some bugs.

The Standard Edition of VueScan costs US$59.95 and the Professional Edition is $79.95 for a single user license. Multi-user licenses are available. A fully functional, trial copy of VueScan is available for download from the Hamrick web site (http://www.hamrick.com).

Apple pushing forward with Mac OS X 10.6.4 work

In less than a month since the last Mac OS X release (10.6.3), Apple is apparently pushing forward with plans to update Snow Leopard to version 10.6.4. “iPhone in Canada” (http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/iphone-news/apple-to-begin-mac-os-x-10-6-4-testing) says it has received reports that Apple is preparing to begin testing the next main revision of Snow Leopard.

It’s not known how long this build period will last. However, “if the last period is any indication, the 10.6.4 period could take us into the early summer of 2010,” says “iPhone in Canada.”

Apple publishes list of ‘obsolete’ products

Apple has published a list of “obsolete” products — ones that will no longer be repaired by Apple Service Centers as of June 15.

Among them are iMac G5s, Powerbook G4s, Power Mac G5s, Apple Cinema Displays (the 20-inch and 23-inch, and early iPods. You can find the complete list at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1752 .
