PDFPen update for Mac OS X reduces memory footprint

SmileOnMyMac has updated PDFPen (http://www.smileonmymac.com/PDFpen/download.html), its PDF editing and form-filling tool for Mac OS X, to version 5.0.2. The update reduces memory footprint for large PDF documents.

Smile also added an AppleScript document property, “needs OCR,” to PDFpen. This addition makes it easier to write AppleScripts for paperless document workflows. Other minor fixes and improvements have also been made.

Free Safari extension helps ensure privacy

Orbicule has introduced Incognito (http://www.orbicule.com/incognito/), their free Safari extension that helps ensure greater privacy by preventing Google and Facebook from tracking the user’s movements and actions while online. It requires Safari 5 or later on Mac or Windows systems.

Incognito protects the user by blocking Google AdSense and Google Analytics on non-Google pages. In addition, it provides the option of blocking Facebook content and embedded YouTube Movies on non-Facebook and non-YouTube pages.

Kanex expands connectivity solutions for Apple Cinema Displays

Apogee, makers of Kanex products (http://www.kanexlive.com/), has introduced the Kanex C Series, a line of products to help people who are looking for alternative connectivity solutions to connect an Apple Cinema Display.

The US$129 Kanex C247m (pictured) is designed for previous generations of MacBook and Mac mini with mini-DVI video output. The C247m, due in November, combines audio and video to 24-inch and 27-inch Cinema Displays.

The iPad Screen Armor line protects the iPad display from nicks and scratches and even helps prevent finger prints. It’s made with three layers of scratch resistant materials and comes in US$19.99 “Ultra-Clear” and $24.99 “Anti-Finger Print” versions.

The Dreamcoat cases for iPad are sold in a variety of colors and provide an industrial design that allows the iPad to rest firmly on flat surfaces. They come in black, white, clear and cranberry and cost $29.99.

Harman updates JBL On Stage, On Stage Micro docking stations

Harman (http://www.jbl.com) has released the JBL On Stage Micro IV and JBL On Stage Micro III iPod/iPhone docking stations. They boast a new industrial design dubbed the Weave.

Both of the new units are compact and will fit on your desk, in the kitchen or at the next tailgate party. The JBL On Stage IV — which has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of US$179.95 — uses four Odyssey transducers and includes an AC adapter or can be powered by six AA batteries that will provide up to 16 hours of normal play.
