ExactCode has updated its ExactScan Pro (http://www.exactcode.de/site/products/exactscan/) scanning software for Mac OS X (10.4 and higher) to version 2.12. The upgrade features a new option to smooth uniform colors, as well as improving OCR recognition, accuracy, stability and device support.

Houdah Software (http://www.houdah.com/) has updated HoudahSpot, their Spotlight front end for Mac OS X, to version 3.1. It now supports the legacy type and creator codes

In version 3.1, the text preview of source code now bypasses the Spotlight engine. HoudahSpot may now reveal multiple items at once in Finder or PathFinder. And the app now highlights the selected criterion rows.

Tags are non-hierarchical keywords assigned to files. They serve a similar purpose than folders. The crucial difference being that a file may be assigned several tags and be located by any of them.

Zevrix Solutions (http://www.zevrix.com) has released LinkOptimizer 4.4.8, an update of its workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign. It’s a maintenance update with some bug fixes.

LinkOptimizer lets you reduce InDesign job size and speed up processing by eliminating excess image data and performing essential image adjustments.

LinkOptimizer Light 4.4.8 can be purchased from the Zevrix Solutions web site for US$259.95 , as well as from authorized resellers. LinkOptimizer works with Mac OS X 10.4.2-10.5 and InDesign CS-CS4.

Black Cat Systems has updated MultiMode (http://www.blackcatsystems.com/software/multimodeOSX.html), a Mac OS X application that lets you Mac decode several different modes of non-voice communication often heard on shortwave, to version 6.2.0. This version adds a TCP/IP server feature, which allows remote clients to connect to MultiMode and receive a stream of the decoded text.

Zykloid Software has updated Posterino (http://zykloid.com/posterino), its “life poster” composing application, to version 2.0. The new version sports an interface that allows for customization of templates, layouts and filters with a single click.

There are also new themed templates. You can integrate Posterino 2.0 with the latest versions of iPhoto, Aperture and Lightroom. Also, you can export to disk, as an e-mail, to iPhoto, to Flickr and as your desktop background.
