‘MUG Event Calendar’: iLife ’11, Mac as home theater, more

The busiest week of the month on “The MUG Event Calendar” -features a wide variety of presenters and topics.

Andy Ihnatko of “The Chicago Sun-Times” and “MacNotables” will be the featured speaker at a Pennsylvania group, while Dave Hamilton of “The Mac Observer” and “Mac Geek Gab” will present remotely to a Nevada group. Kurt Schmucker of Microsoft will make two MUG appearances this week to show off the new Microsoft Office for Mac 2011, one in Oregon, the other in Illinois.

Apple is e-reader manufacturer most likely to impact publishing market

Publisher members of the Audit Bureau of Circulations and ABC Interactive are implementing plans for harnessing the mobile market’s potential and focusing on strategies that increase revenue from the distribution channel. And they’ve found that Apple currently leads the pack of manufacturers offering e-reader and tablet devices, but some concerns may drive publishers to other devices.

Comcast just gets worse and worse

I’m not sure what it says when my cable provider has one of the slowest web sites around. I’m talking about Comcast, whose new Xfinity branding must stand for infinity slow.

I recently tried to add three new email accounts to my Comcast Internet account. The Comcast Customer Service page — which should have been dubbed the Customer Disservice Page — repeatedly ground to a halt and timed out. Something that should have taken 10 minutes to accomplish took an hour.
