John Gruber of “Daring Fireball” (http://daringfireball.net/2010/11/the_daily_and_recurring_subscription_billing) says that, per various media reports, Rupert Murdoch, head of the media giant News Corp, and Apple CEO Steve Jobs, will unveil a new, iPad-only (at least initially), digital “newspaper” called the “Daily” at the end of this month.

The collaboration has purportedly been in the works for several months. The “Daily” will purportedly combine “a tabloid sensibility with a broadsheet intelligence. The price? With no printing or distribution costs, the US-focused “Daily” is expected to cost US$0.99 per week.

Gruber thinks the announcement will take place on Dec. 9. At that time, Apple could also unveil a new subscription billing option for periodicals on the iPad.
