danholt4mac (http://www.danholt.de/danholt4mac/index.html?/businesscardcomposer/index.html) has updated Calories, a nutrition tracking and analysis utility for Mac OS X 10.5 (“Leopard”), to version 2.5. Now Calories users have the option to create their own, cost-free Calories Sync Account.

The Calories Sync Service allows to synchronize multiple Calories v.2.5 installations with each other. All your foods and meals, weight data and activities will be synchronized within all connected Calories 2 installations. This feature is the basis for the upcoming Calories2Go iPhone client, Cal2Go, which is waiting for approval by Apple .

Calories 2.5 is fully compliant to support Cal2Go and the Sync Service. The new version also now offers the ability to share foods, especially custom foods. Simply drag out a food from the daily diet list view to the desktop or any other folder. Distribute the food file by mail or over the network. Import is done by drag and drop, too.

Calories is targeted at casual users who wish to keep a journal of their daily nutrition activities. Users may select foods from the applications database and add them to breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacking categories. Depending on his/her selection, Calories then automatically calculates and displays the total consumption of calories, carbs, fat and proteins for the whole day, or for one of the categories.

In addition to calories, carbs, fat and protein, the application calculates and displays more than 40 nutrients; minerals and ingredients like Alcohol, Zink, Vitamins, etc. Calories also offers simple reporting functionality. You may switch to reporting mode with the option to display reports for the day, week, month or year.

Calories is based on the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies 3.0, which offers more than 6,900 different foods with more than 60 different nutrients (Calories incorporates 44 of them) for each food.

Calories costs approximately US$29 for a single-user license. It’s available in English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Chinese. Version 2.5 is a free update for registered users.
