BitDefender has released BitDefender Antivirus for the Mac (http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/antivirus-for-mac-and-pc.html). It costs US$49.94, requires Mac OS X 10.4.6 or higher, and is designed to keep your Mac safe from viruses and other malware.

According to the folks at BitDefender, at the moment, there are more than 270 different threats specifically targeting Mac OS X operating systems, from JavaScript-based advertisements advising users to purchase fake antivirus software to DNS changing malware along with a quickly changing variety of spam and phishing attacks that are platform independent. While this number is significantly less than the total threats towards Windows systems, it only takes one data breach to bring down a user’s system and possibly expose their identity and other valuable data, they add.

For users of Apple’s Boot Camp or similar dual boot systems, BitDefender is also introducing a security solution for both Mac and PCs that protects no matter what environment the user boots.
