No Starch Press has announced the release of “The Art of RAW Conversion: How to Produce Art-Quality Photos with Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Leading RAW Converters” (US$39.95), by Uwe Steinmueller and Jurgen Gulbins. The new book is a practical, illustrated guide that explains the advantages of working with RAW files (the digital equivalent of film negatives) and how to use several leading RAW converters to create the best digital image from each shot.

Apple to open retail store in Minnetonka, MN June 10

Apple will open a new retail outlet in Minnetonka, Minnesota, on Saturday, June 10. The store, which is located at 12401 Wayzata Blvd, will open to the pubic at 10:00 a.m. CT. As part of its usual Grand Opening promotion, Apple will give away an Apple T-shirt to the first 1,000 people to visit the store. In addition, the company is offering a chance to win a Digital Lifestyle Collection valued at US$2,229.

Lismore Software releases Guest PC 1.9.3

Lismore Software Systems today announced today the release of Guest PC 1.9.3, an update to the company’s application that allows users to easily create and manage virtual x86 computer on a Mac. Changes in version 1.9.3 include: the MMX instruction set has been added for better compatibility which has also resulted in Guest PC performance increase; FPU emulation bugs have been fixed and now Nokia PC Suite can be used fully; and the support for Mac OS X printers has been greatly improved.

The companies are also co-developing a Mac OS X native version of The Complete Exam incorporated into MacPractice DDS, the practice management and clinical software for dentists on the Mac. The MacPractice DDS/TCE solution requires an Intel-based Mac Parallels’ Desktop for Mac and Windows XP Pro.
