TiVoToGo service to gain Mac support

TiVo today announced that its new TiVoToGo service enhancement is now available. TiVoToGo allows subscribers to transfer TV shows and movies from their TiVo box to their desktop or laptop computer. TiVo customers will also be able to burn programs to DVD in the near future. TiVoToGo requires TiVo Desktop 2.0, which is currently only available Windows XP and 2000 operating systems. However, TiVo officials said a Mac OS X version is planned.

Napster begins trading as ‘NAPS’

Apple rival Napster began trading as its own company today on Nasdaq under its new ticker “NAPS.” Based on “subscriber acquisition initiatives and strong holiday sales,” the company expects to achieve revenue growth in the third quarter of fiscal 2005 and reiterated its guidance for revenues of approximately US$11 million. Napster closed the calendar year with a net balance of cash and investments of more than $130 million.

Apple wins two InfoWorld awards

InfoWorld today announced the recipients of its 2005 Technology of the Year Awards, which recognize “significant technologies of the past year that promise to make the greatest impact on enterprise IT strategies as well as the products that best exemplify the implementation of those technologies.” Apple was honored for the best operating system (Mac OS X 10.3 Panther) and best server hardware (Xserve G5).
