Merrill Lynch: Best Buy to sell Mac mini

Best Buy may soon begin to sell Mac minis in at least some of its stores, Merrill Lynch analyst Steven Milunovich said in a research note on Friday. Milunovich said that a Best Buy retail manager told him to expect the low-cost Macs in stores by the end of February. The analyst also said that Best Buy’s Web site briefly indicated that the Mac mini was coming soon. “The introduction of the new Mac mini could be the catalyst for Best Buy and Apple to team up,” Milunovich said. “The new Mac mini has moved the price point down to $499.

Net Tool Box 3.0 released

Charlie Boisseau today announced the release of Net Tool Box 3.0, an update to the popular Mac OS X multi-purpose networking utility. New features in version 3.0 include: network statistics, an SMTP tool, traffic filter sets, Rendezvous service discovery, ARP table, new network interfaces, and more. Audio Outfitters today announced the introduction of the iPodez (pronounced iPod easy) line of accessories for Apple’s iPod. These include: the ezCharge car charger (US$18.99), ezPower wall power adapter ($27.99), and the ezLink data cables ($15.99). All iPodez products work with iPods with dock connectors including the iPod Mini, 3rd Generation iPods, 4th Generation iPods, HP iPods, and iPod Photos.  Some will work with all models of iPods.

Apple releases iMovie HD update

Apple today released iMovie HD 5.0.1, an update to its popular consumer video editing application. iMovie HD, which was announced earlier this month at Macworld Expo as part of iLife ’05, allows users to capture and edit High Definition Video (HDV) from the new generation of HDV camcorders. According to the release notes, the 2.4MB update addresses issues related to video and audio synchronization for DV projects and other minor issues. The iMovie update is available via the Mac OS X Software Update preference pane.
