.Mac revamped for Tiger

Apple has launched an enhanced version of its .Mac services and website to take advantage of the new capabilities in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and to add benefits to subscribers. The new .Mac offers: the ability to sync passwords from your Keychain and Mac OS X Mail preferences; new family Address Book sharing; .Mac-exclusive Dashboard widgets (coming soon); access to .Mac Mail aliases in Tiger Mail; and new online tutorials for Tiger, iLife, iWork, Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Shake and Logic.

Apple’s QuickTime 7 available for Panther

Apple has released QuickTime 7 for Mac OS X 10.3.x Panther via its Software Update utility. New features in version 7 include: H.264 video support, Live player resize, zero-configuration streaming, surround sound, new and improved playback controls, an all-new content guide, and more. Apple also notes: “Installation of QuickTime 7 will disable the QuickTime Pro functionality in prior versions of QuickTime. If you proceed with this installation, you must purchase a new QuickTime 7 Pro key to regain QuickTime Pro functionality.”

Pro Fortran 9.2 64-bit Fortran Compiler for ‘Tiger’ released

Absoft Corporation today announced its Pro Fortran 9.2 Compiler Suite for Apple’s new Mac OS X 10.4 “Tiger” operating system. Pro Fortran 9.2 provides full support for Apple’s 64-bit operating system allowing Fortran developers to fully exploit the entire addressable memory space of the G5 processor. In addition, version 9.2 can produce programs optimized for either 32-bit or 64-bit Mac OS X systems.
