O’Reilly releases ‘Mac OS X Tiger for Unix Geeks’

O’Reilly today announced the release of “Mac OS X for Unix Geeks,” a new 7, 395-page book that has been revised and expanded to cover further changes to what is now the world’s most widely-used Unix system. According to coauthor Brian Jepson, developers faced an unexpected learning curve. “Hacking code on a Mac is similar to hacking code on  other Unix systems, but there are subtle differences between the Unix they’re accustomed to and how things are done in Mac OS X,” remarked the author.

Neometric Software has announced the availability of its new product PHP Studio 1.0, which allows users to write, visualize, and test PHP code on a Mac. PHP Studio features a code editor with syntax coloring, auto complete, Regular Expression find and replace, and numerous other features. In addition, there is a function drawer — a list that displays, in real time, all of the functions in a document. PHP Studio is priced at US$25. A free shareware version is also available.

Pariahware today announced the release of Days Away 1.4, a Mac OS X application that “periodically reminds the user of upcoming events by discreetly fading in to focus, pausing for you to read the events, and discreetly fading back out.” Version 1.4 offers Tiger compatibility, new online help, and other minor enhancements. Days Away is priced at US$12. A 7-day trial version is also available.
