The folks at The Flux Web site, which has been in beta testing since March, let us know that they have now officially launched. The Flux is designed as the premier stop for independent and student filmmakers and their fans, and features a weekly hosted webcast highlighting one short film, as well as interviews and how-to segments. The site is an end-to-end Mac production with all of the host segments shot in HDV, edited in Final Cut and compressed in Compressor. While QuickTime 6 has been used for the multimedia portions of the site, site founder Ryan Ritchey said all assets are being encoded to h.264 and the site will move entirely to QT7 once it is released for the PC. The Flux also released a Dashboard widget, which generates a “3-word review” of a random movie from the site’s review database of over one hundred movies and growing.
