Sony today officially launched its PlayStation Portable (PSP) in the U.S. The PSP offers PlayStation 2 level graphics, the ability to play music and movies, and view digital photos. The device features a 4.3-inch wide screen TFT display, WiFi and USB 2.0 connectivity, built-in stereo speakers, and support for Memory Stick Duo cards. The PSP’s games come on a new 1.8GB disc format called UMD (Universal Media Disc). Sony and other film studios are releasing several movies on UMD later this year. Apple-using PSP owners can convert, manage and transfer media from their Mac to the PSP with software such as iPSP or PSPware.
