Google Labs has released Google X, an alternative version of its search engine with Mac OS X Dock-like magnification of icons in place of normal text links. “Today is an amazing day: A small idea – a fun late-night coding jaunt to help me learn Javascript and DHTML – has just launched on Google Labs,” said Google software engineer Chikai Ohazama. “Google X came about because I wanted a quick fun way to access all of Google’s services… I hope all of you enjoy it – especially Mac users, who I’m sure will appreciate its lineage.” A tagline on Google X reads: “Roses are red. Violets are blue. OS X rocks. Homage to you.” Update: Several readers note that Google has pulled Google X. No reason was given.
