Jobs named ‘Executive of the Year’

Steve Jobs has been named the Executive of the Year by the San Francisco Business Times for “balancing performance at Pixar and innovation at Apple.” The publication highlighted the iPod and “Finding Nemo” and noted that both companies where Jobs is CEO had profitable years despite “continued anemia in the larger tech economy.”

FireWire audio controller IC demoed

A dedicated FireWire audio controller IC will be launched and demonstrated by Oxford Semiconductor this week. Compatible with FireWire and FireWire 800 connections, the OXFW970 chip provides eight digital audio output channels and is designed to enable the creation of surround sound systems for both Mac and PC platforms. The FireWire audio controller can receive and process 32-bit audio data sampled at up to 48kHz at a streaming speed of up to 100Mbytes/sec.

Macsense ships HomePod device

MacSense this week will begin shipping the HomePod, a digital stereo component that lets you take advantage of an existing wireless network to stream MP3 files stored on Macs or PCs to devices located anywhere in a house or office. First announced a year ago, the HomePod uses a 802.11b, or Wi-Fi, network interface to stream MP3 files to remote devices. It scans surrounding computers on the wireless network for available media libraries and lists them for selection and playing. Pricing hadn’t been announced as of press time.
