MacIT keynote looks at history of Mac networking

Alan Oppenheimer, president and founder of Open Door Networks Inc., will deliver the keynote address at the MacIT (Macintosh Information Technology) conference that takes place during this week’s Macworld Expo and Conference in San Francisco. The Jan. 7 keynote talk, entitled “A History of Macintosh Networking,” is designed to coincide with the Mac’s 20th anniversary. Oppenheimer worked for 11 years at Apple, then for nine years at the Mac networking company he founded: Open Door Networks. An overview of the keynote talk is available online.

Griffin iFM Radio for iPod canceled

The iPodlounge notes that Griffin Technology has canceled the production of its iFM Radio for iPod. According to an e-mail sent to customers who pre-ordered the product, the iFM was canceled because it relied on the now discontinued iPod Wired Remote Control, which is no longer available separately from Apple. Griffin also said that producing the iFM for the new 3G iPods proved to be impossible due to technical changes in the new models.

Power Mac G5 is ‘Apple’s best work yet’

InfoWorld’s Tom Yager declares the Power Mac G5 “Apple’s best work yet” in his review of the new machine. “The Power Mac G5 desktop workstation presents the ideal balance of compatibility, performance, usability, and value,” he writes. “It has serious number-crunching capabilities, but this machine most clearly outshines Intel-based systems when performing complex operations on massive disk and/or RAM-based data sets.” Mac OS X 10.3 Panther and Mac OS X 10.3 Panther Server also are rated “Excellent” by Yager.

TASCAM’s computer recording products Panther ready

TASCAM has announced Mac OS X 10.3 Panther compatibility for all of their USB and FireWire computer recording products. The new Panther-ready driver for the FW-1884, the company’s FireWire control surface and audio/MIDI Interface, adds several new features to the recording interface, including enhanced audio latency, more flexible routing options, and more.
