Thursby Software Systems today announced the release of Dave v5, the latest release of the company’s cross-platform file and print sharing application. Thursby says that “this major enhancement to DAVE was done with both state-of-the-art and legacy machines in mind. Recognizing that there is still a great need for continued Mac OS 9 support, Dave v5 includes Windows Server 2003 support for Mac OS 10.3, as well as Mac OS 9.x systems.” Pricing for Dave v5 starts at US$119, with upgrades priced at $69.95.

Trans Lucy, a ‘radically new’ DVD player for OS X

CE Software today announced the release of Trans Lucy 1.0, a DVD player for Mac OS X 10.3 which lets users view movies on their computer in a way never seen before, according to the press release. With Trans Lucy movies float above all other applications and can be displayed translucently letting users see and work with their documents “behind the scenes.” Trans Lucy requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later and is priced at US$14.95.

Billboard Charts, iTunes Top 100 of 2003 now on iTMS

Apple’s iTunes Music Store (iTMS) has added a new option that lets you browse music by yearly Billboard Hot 100 Charts (1946-2003). Apple has also added the iTunes Top 100 Albums of 2003 to the store. The top 10 for 2003 were: “On and On” by Jack Johnson, “Sacred Love” by Sting, “Life for Rent” by Dido, “Bare” by Annie Lennox, “Room On Fire” by The Strokes, “Everything to Everyone” by the Barenaked Ladies, “Afterglow” by Sarah MacLachlan, “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” by OutKast, “In the Zone” by Britney Spears, and “Verve Remixed 2” by various artists.

You Software today introduced You Control, a new utility designed specifically for Mac OS X that “makes it easy to create custom menus that provide fast access to your files and folders and put useful information at your fingertips.” You Control menus can be located in the top Menu Bar or any corner of your display. Dantz launches Retrospect 6.0 with Panther support

Dantz Development today announced Retrospect 6.0, the latest version of the company’s backup and restore software for the Mac. Version 6.0 now protects Power Mac G4 and G5 computers running Mac OS X Panther, backs up Xserve RAIDs hosting multiple terabytes of data, and supports SCSI and Fibre Channel tape libraries. The Retrospect 6.0 product CD also includes Retrospect 5.1 for backing up to a Mac OS 9 system.
