Gmail gets POP3 support, antivirus planned

Google said today that it will graually roll out POP3 (Post Office Protocol) support over the coming weeks to users of its Gmail e-mail service. “With POP3 support, users will be able to transfer their server-based Gmail messages to a client-side e-mail application such as Microsoft’s Outlook and have the messages stored on their local hard drive and thus accessible when they are offline.

Western Digital intros WD Passport USB hard drives

Western Digital has announced its new WD Passport portable USB hard drives. The two drives require no separate power supply and are available in capacities of 40GB and 80GB. They are outfitted with “high-performance, low-power consuming, cool and quiet-running” WD Scorpio 2.5-inch 5400 RPM EIDE hard drives, and feature a rugged, protective case and Data Lifeguard protection. Suggested retail pricing is US$199 for the 40GB drive and $249 for the 80GB model. The WD Passport drives will be available at retail stores next month.
