Apple addresses PowerBook display problems

Apple has posted details of its 15-inch PowerBook G4 Display Repair Extension Program, which offers replacement of LCDs that show faint white spots on the screen of certain PowerBooks. The issue affects both Aluminum and Titanium 15-inch PowerBooks that were manufactured from July 2003 through November 2003. To qualify for the repair program, your PowerBook serial number must fall between one of two serial number ranges: V7334xxxxxx to V7345xxxxxx or QT331xxxxxx to QT339xxxxxx.

iMac G5 benchmarks show 35% speed boost

Macworld’s initial benchmarks on Apple’s new iMac G5 show that the machine is 35 percent faster than the previous G4 model. “As you could probably guess, the new G5-equipped iMacs out-performed than their G4-powered predecessors,” writes James Galbraith. “Still, they weren’t as fast as the Power Mac models that come equipped with two G5 processors. Speedmark, our all-around system performance benchmark, showed that the 1.8 GHz iMac G5s were 35 percent faster than the 1.25GHz iMac G4.

iStopMotion 1.5 adds high-res, still camera support

Boinx Software today released iStopMotion 1.5, the latest version of its stop motion animation tool for Mac OS X. Version 1.5 brings support for high-resolution movies and digital still cameras. The update also offers a Noise Reduction feature that increases the image quality when working with video sources such as the Apple iSight. iStopMotion is priced at US$39.95. The iStopMotion 1.5 HR key, which supports output of high-res video, is available for $349 until Oct. 30th ($399 afterwards).
