iTunes Music Store selling 5.5 million songs per week

Piper Jaffray senior research analyst Gene Munster said Friday that based on Apple’s announcement of 200 millions songs being downloaded from the iTunes Music Store so far, the company is selling approximately 5.5 millions songs per week, up from 3.5 to 4 million songs last quarter. Based on this run rate, Munster said in a research note to clients, he is expecting iTunes downloads in the December quarter to reach 68.5 million, up from his previous estimate of 52.1 million.

Apple has added a handful of new perks for subscribers of its .Mac Internet suite. Members can now download HipSoft’s Holiday Express (US$19.95 value), an action arcade game in which you “travel across the country loading the train with beautiful pictures–including your own custom images.” Also offered is a 25 percent discount on any HipSoft Mac game. In addition, .Mac members can now download two chapters from “Robin Williams’ Cool Mac Apps,” and get 30 percent off the entire book. All of the offers are good until March 9, 2005.

MacSoft releases Halo 1.5 update

Destineer’s MacSoft unit has announced that the 1.5 Halo patch for Macintosh has been released. The updater is for the US retail version of Halo only and offers far too many features and fixes to post here. A complete list of changes is available from the Web site. Halo 1.5 requires Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.
