Rolling Stone notes that U2 accepted no money from Apple for the iPod+iTunes ad featuring its new single “Vertigo,” but will get royalties on the U2 iPod. Band manager Paul McGuinness said, “The commercial was an attractive idea because iTunes was already selling our music, and the amount Apple will spend for airtime is out of reach for the record business.” Bob Chiappardi, president of music promotion firm Concrete Marketing, expects other bands to want their own special edition iPod. “It’s a win-win situation.” If it goes well, look for other bands to beg Apple for their own iPods too.”
