Apple held a press event Thursday to unveil its long-awaited San Francisco retail store, which will have its grand opening on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 10:00 a.m. PT. CNET News.com notes that Apple “has had its eye on a location in San Francisco’s posh Union Square shopping district since it began opening stores in 2001. But the company wanted a standalone spot that was close to Market Street, the bustling thoroughfare that anchors the downtown financial district.” Ron Johnson, Apple’s senior vice president of retail, said: “Our very first priority was to get a spot in San Francisco, which is our hometown.” But, he said, this spot was “worth the wait.”
