Brother International today introduced its new HL-5000 Series (HL-5040, HL-5050 and HL-5070N) of 17 PPM (pages per minute) personal laser printers — the new line replaces the existing HL-1400 Series printers. CMS Peripherals today unveiled the new features of its ABSplus, Automatic Backup System, now with integrated scheduling and One Button Restore. CMS also outlined its roadmap for bringing IEEE 1394b compatibility to the ABSplus in 2003. The pocket-sized ABSplus is available with a USB or FireWire interface, and comes in capacities of 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 60GB at a starting price of US$299. The ABSplus for Desktops is available in capacities of 40GB, 80GB, 120GB and 160GB at a starting price of $299.

SwitchXS goes beta, testers wanted

Niemeijer Consult today announced that SwitchXS, a new application allowing single-switch access to Mac OS X, has reached beta stage. The company says that SwitchXS is the first Mac OS X-compatible solution announced for motor-impaired users who cannot use a mouse or keyboard but can only press a single switch.
