Virtual Programming ships Payback

Virtual Programming today announced that Payback, its game inspired by Grand Theft Auto, is now shipping. The game engine supports perspective correct texture mapping, environment mapping (reflections), bump mapping, realistic shadows, alpha-channelling (lens flares, explosions and shockwaves), 12 channel 3D sound and realistic physics. Payback (£29.95) runs on Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.

Apple’s Ive up for “Designer of the Year” award

Apple’s chief design guru, Jonathan Ive, has been nominated for the inaugural “Designer of the Year” award, presented by London’s Design Museum, reports the BBC. The winner of the £25,000 prize will be announced in June. Completing the nominations are the makers of the best-selling video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, jewelery designer Solange Azagury-Partridge, and Dutch product designer Tord Boontje for limited edition chandeliers.
